If anything I disliked Vic at the beginning and as the show progressed I got to understand and sympathize with him more and more same as Shane. On the opposite spectrum are Dutch, Corinne, and Claudett, three characters I really liked at the beginning of the series and every episode chipped away at that. By season 5 rolled around Claudette was officially my least favorite in The Barn but Dutchs personal vendetta against Billings in the final season is what did it for me. Corinne I could sympathize with the entire show until she randomly turned on Vic for seemingly no reason, Cassidy was just a girl so she always gets a pass but Corinne sucks (and this is coming from someone who says Skyler White was right and Walter sucked.) I wish Julien got more character development and not just in the first 2 seasons he was the one whose potential was wasted the most, even in the final episode when he sees the gay couple and you can see the regret in his face, so weird to touch upon that in the final episode after ignoring it for so long.

Vic was ultimately smarter than all of them, always a step ahead...he simply never got caught. If you're in the trenches, you're calling Vic - the rest are useless. That's exactly why he ultimately served no actual punishment - instead got a great package, and rid of his horrendous wife. Win-win.

Throughout the whole series as a viewer, you know what Vic does is wrong but you can't really hate him because he always displays a shadow of morality or you are presented with attenuating circumstances in what he does. In fact, you end up rooting for him. Claudette is always displayed in antithesis and as a viewer you are clear all the way that she despises him and tries to let everyone know Vic's true colors. In season 6, when Kevin Hiatt, oblivious tells her that maybe Vic is not that bad and it's just his reputation to blame, she quickly warns him AND the viewer: You are seeing only what Vic wants you to see. This is why this is my favorite scene in the entire show. This is where you really get to see Vic's real face. He looks at her with a mixed set of emotions. Indifference, Power, Anger, seemingly despising all her morality and everything she claims to stand for. And then. The real Vic is revealed at 4:00. His true face in an interrogation room being watched by other cops as we have seen them watch all sort of petty criminals and killers in each episode of the show.
