Even though Halloran is the hero in the movie, he broke every rule to entering a horror movie specially ‘The Shining’ 1. Never Go Alone 2. Always a Weapon 3. Alert the Cops 4. Secondary Weapon
@MasterHappychipmunk Жыл бұрын
Going alone, yea he should’ve probably brung someone along, but how would he explain the real reason for going to the overlook hotel to an accompanying person especially if said person doesn’t know what shining is? There also reason he probably wouldn’t want to put someone else in potential danger. Bring a weapon and secondary weapon, for sure, but Jack did ambush him and who knows if he could even put up a fight. Call the cops? Again, he’d have to explain the situation and who knows if he’d be taken seriously.
@metaknight4230 Жыл бұрын
@@MasterHappychipmunk Good Points: Bringing someone with him, in the Extended Cut Dick mentions at the airport that he has to go up and replace beacon, maybe asked for assistance. Yes Jack ambushed him, but if had someone along could be prevented or if had weapon maybe able to get quick hit on Jack before dying, if weapon was sharpe or blunt. Call Cops: Could lie that reason he was making urgent call up there, because they called him before hand saying something was wrong, might work with police or not.

Dick Halloran is the hero of the film, because his arrival distracts Jack Torrance from killing Wendy - he also brings the snowcat she and Danny finally escape in. Shame he lost his life to do it! *I've read comments from people saying how "ugly" Shelly Duvall and Jack Nicholson are. But people complain that they want to see more regular people in movies, more people they can identify with. Stanley Kubrick delivered exactly what people asked for.* *Because we see supermodel characters in several horror films. That's why the filmmakers have someone taking off their clothes and making sweet love every five minutes. Just for the sake of beautiful, well-defined bodies. So much so that in the 90s miniseries, Steven Weber and Rebecca De Morney, are the standard couple of that time. They were beautiful and perfect at the time of the 90s in front of the cameras. In this film, 'The Shining' (80s), it didn't need any of that to be scary. The only scene where someone is shown without clothes is the bathtub scene.* *And the acting was so perfect, so realistic that Shelly Duvall and Jack Nicholson delivered that we can really relate. Shelley Duvall herself delivered a realistic performance (due to the fatigue and stress that Stanley Kubrick put her through), and I really identified with her. I think I would have the same reactions of fear as her, if I were going through this.*

R.I.P Shelley Duvall, Richard Kiel, and George Carlin I miss Shelley Duvall, Richard Kiel, and George Carlin so much and Shelley Duvall along with Richard Kiel and George Carlin will always be my absolute favorites. Shelley Duvall was a brilliant actress in The Shining and Popeye 1980, I love The Shining by Stanley Kubrick as one of my all time favorite films, and the scene where Wendy Torrance swings the bat at Jack Torrance was my favorite part of The Shining. I also really love both Richard Kiel and George Carlin. Richard Kiel was an incredible actor in The Longest Yard 1974 with Burt Reynolds, George Carlin was the best American comedian with stellar common sense, and Back in Town as well as You Are All Diseased from 1996 to 1999 are both my absolute favorite George Carlin specials.

The combination of amazing performances, spine-chilling music/soundtrack, razorsharped sound design, pitch perfect directing, immersive camera movements and still shots, brutal violence and visual imagery, and stressful situation makes you feel the real terror inside out, and how this scene makes it into the cinema history books as one of the most terrifying and shocking scenes ever put in a horror film… a real MASTERPIECE of terror. RIP Shelley Duvall, the heart and soul of this movie, the most realistic film acting displaying the living nightmare of a character in any horror movie, a LEGEND to be always remembered. Jack Nicholson: the performance of a lifetime. “The Shining”, the most artful horror film ever made.

When I saw this as a kid I kept thinking “ close the window and break the glass !! There’s plenty of wiggle room !! “ But then again Kubrick’s interpretation of Wendy is an abomination compared to the strong and capable equal to Jack that King created in his novel. His Wendy has agency. Really disliked the neurotic, easy manipulated mess that he had Duvall portray. She did a phenomenal job regardless. This is one of the most convincing portrayals of extreme fright and terror ever on film. Great job Shelley !!
