You should ask your local nuclear engineer if someone can stand on the moon in that space suit in the sun for a couple of hours and survive the radiation they would be receiving since the moon has no atmosphere, he'll set you straight.

May 1st 1961 is when the first American astronaut entered space. May 15th 1963 is the final launch of the Mercury mission and the last American to go into space alone.

I noticed you haven’t done a film analysis video for a while. I hope one day you’ll analyze another Kubrick movie.

For some reason no one can see number 11 writen on the door that Jack smashed so many times. He broke the one side of the door, and on the next scene you can see that the door side next to Wendy is also smashed, showing number 11. This is probably the reason why Kubrick smashed so many doors. Anyhow, great video, I wish I have seen it earlier...

9:30 -- though Kubrick uses misleading representations of time and time references throughout the movie, this one is actually a reasonable one by context implication: Jack is supposed to be there until May 1st, with the hotel staff gradually returning over a two week period until the 15th reopening to restock, do major grounds maintenance, schedule reservations (as the hotel is properly closed all winter so those wanting to make reservations can't until May), and similar-such in prep for opening. So that part in-and-of-itself doesn't really mean anything.

The skeletons scene is sort of funny, like a haunted house. I’ve wondered if he was sort of tossing Steven King a bone with that. To Diane Johnson (his co-writer): “Well Di, maybe that’ll appease him since we’ve completely reworked the rest of his book!” Laughter.

One of the pages has it typed “adult boy” perhaps supporting the idea that Danny and Jack are two aspects of the same person. At least I’ve thought that.

As Jay Weidner said, I think we went to the moon, but did not show actual footage. I’ll have to look up some of your suggestions.

Reasonable interpretation of the sentence. The typos are interesting to me.

One symbol that you have not said the blood is for, is the rocket lunches. Look at the pattern of the blood and listen to the sound. It looks and sounds like a rocket launch.

My final comment is a quote from Kubrick himself that speaks to all of this and much more, and something he learned personally: “Never, ever go near power. Don’t become friends with anyone who has real power. It’s dangerous.” Also watch the rare video of SK accepting the American Director’s Guild “DW Griffiths Award” .around 97 or so. He speaks about how Griffiths’ career in film making was similar to the Daedalus myth of flying too close to the sun etc. In a very kubrickian fashion it feels like he was also making reference to himself. Worth a watch. Anyway, thanks for the interesting videos and research! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaGUhWapi71ne7s

This is interesting with regard to the typed pages. Also Ullman clearly points to JFK at least it seems to me.

Sorry SO MANY comments, can’t help it. No need to respond tho lol. I do have to say I really like your work and you’re clearly no dummy!😉. Also there is so much out there on this film that just doesn’t do much for me. Too many disconnected pieces whereas you’re seeing consistent themes. Yours and a few others I find compelling. You’re not coming across as overly fanatical either which actually strengthens your case. People lose interest when there’s a soapbox involved. Btw, Kubrick himself spoke often about puzzles, enigmas, even “decoding” and such, implying that he enjoyed using such techniques for conveying ideas in his films. An example of how far off people are from understanding Kubrick is the reaction to Eyes Wide Shut, when they say it was just a movie about a married couple with sexual issues! Kubrick called it his favorite of all his films. I’m pretty sure there’s more going on there than it might appear. Admittedly I feel I’ve barely scratched the surface of all of what he’s hidden in the Shining and I suppose it’s what draws many of us to this film, not that we’ve figured it all out but the sense that there’s so much more. It is a monumental work of artistic genius.

You perhaps could be right about your interpretation. Also, Kubrick’s symbols and codes might have dual meanings.

Kubrick I believe has stated that every figure in the photo is an archetype. Not sure this is true but fascinating if it is.

Today I saw a photo of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, they let a bunch of pedestrians cross first, and they were all packed together in the photo, kind of similar to this photo. Considering that Jack was singing "San Francisco, here I come," in the maze, I thought that it would have been interesting to see Jack in that photo at the end, so we know he made it to SF. Crazy, I know. But funny to me.

The prop disappearance may be explained by the fact that the original studio set was destroyed by a fire 🔥 and had to be rebuilt. It’s not just the bear rug that is gone, also a wood sculpture that stood on the big table at the center of Colorado Lounge is gone. But on the fake moon landing interpretation for me is too much out of nothing. That the hotel stands for America 🇺🇸 is obvious though, that’s why the predominant use of red and blue, Apollo 11 sweater, talk of native Indian, presidents, movie stars, jet setters, and all the “best people”. America is described as violent, racist and elitist. Those being also, on the other level, characteristics of Jack himself, so the hotel also a projection Jack’s mind or Torrance’s family life.

I would check out “The Wendy Theory,” on You Tube. It is yet another narrative among many that Kubrick placed in the film.
