How strange that Astein, who pretended to be a bit wealthy, who falsely called himself a doctor, who didn't dress to suit the climate without preferred to wear the expensive clothes and jewelry he liked (but couldn't actually afford), in a relatively small place like the Canary Islands, would happen to come across someone who basically was the real version of who Astein pretended to be. Strange, and very unfortunate for Dr./Senor Navarro. Edited to Add: At least I thought I heard Brief Case mentioning something about Navarro having a doctor's title related to him being a pharmacist. But either way, doctor or pharmacist, both are in the field of medicine, so I think it counts towards the odd coincidence.
@JaimeMesChiens2 жыл бұрын
I have read a bit about this case, related to some other matter. I am lead to believe that Navarro had a PhD in chemistry and was educated both in Spain and Cuba. I’ll try to find the reference and share if/when I locate. It was years ago in a book, not online, so it may take me a few hour to locate the reference.

They both more or less got away with murder. I think all three of the principle's in this story were just plain stupid. The one for carrying all his money in a briefcase with him and if there was such a book "how to commit murder for idiots" they sure didn't read the chapter on how to dispose of dead body. It's easy to murder someone but then what are you going to do with the dead body?
@magmasunburst93312 жыл бұрын
The evil never get away with their crimes. First of all they have those despicable hearts that allow them to do those things. Second of all, civilization as we've known it has been based on the beliefs of God and the golden rule. You can't say somebody got away with it until you objectively know the facts after death, which some believe in this life we won't know. So based on a lack of evidence, you cannot make the statements that you've made.

That happened in my island 😱. If you haven't done it yet, you should check the crimes of Dámaso Alonso Rodríguez aka El Brujo, that occurred in Tenerife. PS.: Sorry to be pedantic but the Canary Islands always belonged to the Kingdoms of Castille and Aragon first and later to Spain, once the country was formed. They never belonged to Portugal, France, The Netherlands or England. Dutch and English corsaries such as Horatio Nelson TRIED to occupy them without success. France was never in the picture but a Normand nobleman called Jean de Bethencourt conquered some of the islands under a "señorío" treaty with the Queen of Castille and the King of Aragon. Basically he was named "virrey" and had some rights but the ultimate owners were the aforementioned. There were Portuguese settlers (along with extremeños and Andalusian) but they never claimed the islands for Portugal, they joined the conquest and colonisation under the Spanish flag. And nowadays there are a lot of British pensioners but they haven't claimed the islands yet 😆

Poor man. He was a victim of his times. Mr. Navarro was perceptive enough to foresee that he was about to be robbed and murdered. His suspicions began to be stoked before they'd even left for the final, fatal leg of the journey. He was too much of a gentleman to absent himself from their company and seems to have gone just to be polite. A real gentleman...killed by a fake gentleman and a butcher for money that he was happy to part with if they would only spare his life. I really enjoyed that. These tall, well dressed spoofers, seem to be present regardless of the decade.☘

Thx BC still very unwell recovering from Covid so feel like Ive missed a few. Gran Canaria was one of the worst holidays I have ever had, it was supposed to be an 'All Inclusive' (my 1st experience of one) but I found that everything was extra - even the air and electric in the apartment which I shared not just with my 4 and 10 yr old but a whole colony of ants! My 4 yr old also got attacked by a parrot and has been scared of them ever since. On the plus side, it was my 1st experience of meeting a Vulture so not all bad! Take care, Love Jessie x

Monday = Brief Case !! Good story with a depressing conclusion. No record of why these two murderers were released, after serving little time ?? Astein was a very lucky man overall.

I find it intriguing that a decent hard working man that earns some wealth would keep everything on his person. In this man's case it was a fatal flaw. It's a shame that he felt he had to keep it on him as opposed to a bank.
