Which year and what's the consumption, kpl?
@victor.olweny2 ай бұрын
Before I shock you let me first appreciate the shocking truth. Sugar coat it with comfort and so on. Simply put a Toyota 4.7 V8 petrol will consume much more than a 3 V6 petrol which cosumes more than a 1.5 4 cylinder if maintenance is well done across board. It will cost a smilar trend in repairs. A badly maintained or faulty 4 cylinder engine can have the same fuel efficiency as a well maitained V8 engine. An engine is meant to pull the weight of the car, the heavier the car the more work it does puling it faster, so do the math on why one has a bigger engine and drinks more than the other. Now add creature comforts like AC and the engine works alot harder, you get the drill on fuel.. Bottom line, if you want bigger be willing to dig deeper in your pockets. Get a car for the right purpose. If it is beyond purpose then be willing to pay more for whatever makes you feel good, whether it is your love for a particular car brand, childhood dreams, shape of car, ground clearance, AWD, performance ... whatever satisfies your emotions. With that said I own a 2018 WXB Toyota Fielder 1.5 Petrol and a 1992 Toyota Landcruiser 78 2.4 Turbo Diesel. Fielder more comfortable than Landcruiser. I use AC all of the time with the Fielder, hardly with the Landcruiser. Fielder gets 10 - 14 k/l in city upto 20k/l on highway. Landcruiser gets 8 - 10 k/l city upto 16 k/l highway. When I get in either I know what am paying for. And depending on my pocket and mood I will choose one over the other on a given day. I love landcruisers, and I will hopefully get a 100 series with the inline 6 and manual gearbox if I find one in good condition or cheap enough I can rebuild it to what I want. PS: The Cygnus is a Lexus, it was only named like that in Japan but it was exported as a Lexus to other countries. So it comes with the build quality and comfort of a Lexus and you should notice how different it is in looks from other Toyota Landcruiser 100 series V8s
@Afrorack2 ай бұрын
There's no way a poorly maintained 4 cylinder can consume like a well maintained V8...as you assume. Fuel comes through fuel injectors and they have a maximum capacity. On a smaller engine they will be smaller in capacity and even if they were stuck open they cannot flow that much fuel
@victor.olweny2 ай бұрын
@@Afrorack I said poorly maintained or faulty engine *can* and this is based on application not combustion cycle. I didn't specify capacity of 4 cylinder, they range from 1.5l to 3l. Fuel is controlled by the ECU/Computer in modern engines and that is based on many sensors, if any of the senors is giving faulty information it can cause the ECU to inject more fuel or less making it run too rich or lean, making it consume more or less than expected. Now apply a well maintained V8 and poorly maintained 4 cylinder to similar conditions like a 200km journey, with the 4 cylinder overfueling and reving in most cases higher than the V8, or daily driving when loaded or running with AC, do the math As I already mentioned earlier the V8 will always consume more than a V6 and so on, all other factors constant. The point is how much fuel you use not only depends on it being a bigger vs smaller engine, but also on the conditions of the engine. PS: Combustion in the cylinder is due to air fuel mixture, more fuel more power, so you can have a case where you are putting in more fuel than air, and it is not that you are pouring in fuel like a tap, it is sprayed by the injectors. Finally, 4.7 V8 represents total capacity, but if you take a cylinder independently you can find the volume of a single cylinder in a 4-cylinder is equivalent to the volume of a single cylinder in a V8, the only difference being the V8 has extra 4 cylinders to work with
@humphreykimutai41192 ай бұрын
@@AfrorackWell, it actually can. I've driven a 2.0 litre X-trail T30 petrol that consumed around 6-7 km /litre. Wasn't the most well maintained vehicle with fuel pump issues transmission issues and all that. So yeah a 4 cylinder can actually be that bad if not well maintained and serviced.

Also I covered nearly 400 kms in those two days. I love driving too much. Idk how someone can only do 800kms in a month. Anyway great video it was interesting to know the costs. Hopefully I’ll have such a car one day, but for now I’m happy with my Nissan Serena. In general with any car that consumes more fuel than your average 1.5L to 2.0L it’s about the smiles per miles not the miles per gallon.

Great perspective! Forgive my far fetched thinking but I'm thinking this goes back to one's wallet.. I'm a big fan of this LC V8 although for this argument's sake, I feel like excluding the obvious difference in initial purchasing cost did not do this video/maths justice? I haven't checked the price of a Harrier/Mark X but considering medium to near-long term ownership, doesn't the lower initial cost of purchasing the Harrier/Mark X (which I believe is much lower than the V8) overall balance out owning this LC V8 aka "enjoying its amenities". The Harrier/Mark X owner maybe simply couldn't afford the LC V8 or could actually afford it, however, decided to invest the balance in some Real Estate or something. To me this low key falls in the same category of the trending debate of "To rent or To buy a house".. Although I think after 15 - 20 years, your argument wins. The V8 will still be holding its ground better than the Harrier. At the end of the day, it depends on one's priorities at that time of "having the money to afford the V8". Perhaps rather buy a fairly used well mentained LC V8 than a brand new Harrier? If your argument is based solely on daily driving bar the initial purchasing cost of both cars, I take my comment back. Thanks for the insight though. Here to learn :)

Great video. Super informative. That fuel consumption is shocking though even in context. What are the benefits of owning a 200 series over a 2nd gen Touareg or Cayenne? Diesel of course. Those cars would be cheaper to buy, much better on road performance, not too far behind in off road performance, miles ahead in terms of fuel consumption, similar maintenance costs, and super reliable 🤔. What, beyond being status symbols, would be the appeal in buying a 200/100 series over a similar period german suv?
@MasaiGainz2 ай бұрын
Parts and service . Simple as that. In kenya it’s a nightmare sometimes servicing and diagnosing German cars . Often expensive Aswell. The Land Cruiser will consume fuel, but parts and service will be cheaper and the residual value will be way better over 5-10 years vs the German car! Land cruisers hold value very well! Especially if you purchase at the bottom of the depreciation curve . And in offroad performance, there’s a huge difference . The cruiser is build to take a beating . The other cars will most certainly break expensive parts over the same type of hard end safaris .

@@danielw2714 10-12 km/L on the Allion...my 3.0 crown gets pretty crazy number sometimes I think the computer is nuts, usually I realistically get 15-18 km/L on long drives but I have seen and recorded 22.4 km/L but strictly at 80kmph with no crazy accelerations.

@@seanlovi8798 so getting an average of 14kpl (town driving) in a 1800cc allion is impossible? I was genuinely considering getting it

How are you getting 6km/l as a daily use? I have driven an LC100 for 3 years and the best I got as a daily use is 5km/l.

wondering the same thing too.

Combined average . If you are mainly in city driving meaning traffic and start stop bumper to bumper cars everyday , definitely you will consume allot. The V8 doesn’t like to just sit and rumble in city traffic so if your daily commute is mostly that, Don’t go for the cruiser But if you can mix it up , some expressway, some highway, abit of traffic etc you will manage just fine Also big key is how soft your foot is on the pedal! If you’re someone who loves to stomp on it, go for a saloon car. I drive like a grandpa most times so I get better fuel economy than most lol
