I've been using Samsung Z phones since the 2. Had the inner screen replaced twice on Fold 2 (in two years) and twice on my Fold 4 (in one year). To Samsungs credit they replaced every time with no hassles including the second time on my Fold 2 which was well after the warranty period. The second time it happened on my Fold 4 they couldn't fix it so they sent me a full refund which I used to buy a Fold 5. 15 months into my Fold 5 and zero issues. Admittedly I'm really hard my phones, work in construction and live in Hawaii (lots of beach time).

It's always tricky when, as individuals, we're dealing with the limited sample size of one or two phones. Good or bad, it's too small of a sample size to make any real statements about the likelihood of the defect.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
I totally agree. Three out of how many thousands or millions is a very small number. I just happen to be unfortunate that it happened three times in less than a month on the last two phones. Maybe they were just a bad batch or I just have some sort of weird secret sauce. The one thing I do notice about the OnePlus Open compared to all other foldables is that it will spring closed or open. The other foldable screens are much stiffer. I don't know if that makes a difference, but none of my other foldables have ever had an issue with the screen. Thank you for your comment and I truly hope that most people never have to go through this. I appreciate your support of the channel. 👍

Honestly, I haven't actually heard that many complaints about the screen. It's all been me and my misfortune. It really is an awesome phone and beats all the other foldables I use as far as useful features and multitasking. The size is a perfect size and the weight is very light. The hinge is not as stiff as most other foldables and I'm wondering if that is the problem, but I truly don't know. I don't wish to give up on the phone because I do really enjoy it. Hi, I've had the OnePlus open for 3 months and I just love it. I've also had the z-fold 3 4 and 6. I bought the z-fold 6 used it for a month and then sold it because it was just the same old phone just a little bit of a tweak here and there. I decided to replace it with the OnePlus open and I am so glad I did. It's a remarkable phone it has everything that the z fold series didn't have. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your OnePlus open. I'll tell you something while I had my z-fold 4 I had an issue with that with the Wi-Fi connection which I had to return to Samsung to be fixed. So I'm not sure about the quality control of these foldables but one thing I do know is they're awesome and I wouldn't trade in my OnePlus open for a slab phone. They're just too much fun to have a tablet and phone in one. Thanks for bringing your content to KZbin. Take care and be well.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
Sounds like we both had come to the same conclusion with the Z Fold series phones. I had the Z Fold 4 and got the Z Fold 5 and saw that it was pretty much the same. So that's what steered me to the Oneplus Open. The Oneplus Open is a great phone and I really love having it. The first one lasted six months before the first issue. The Pixel 9 Pro gives me a similar feeling as the Oneplus Open. However, the Oneplus Open actually seems to run a lot faster and is a bit lighter. The multitasking and the canvas on the Oneplus Open is also far more superior. I will use this defective one if they decide they want to charge me for a replacement because I'm not going to pay for that. I'm very much looking forward to the AI update on the next version of the software for the Oneplus Open. I definitely want to review that and test out all those features. Thank you for sharing your story. I really love hearing about the experience of others. I pray you don't have any issues with your OnePlus Open. I also appreciate your support of the channel. 👍

I have had my OnePlus Open for over a year now and love it. I had all Z Folds from 2 through 5 and when the OnePlus came out with the larger front screen, I decided I had enough of the narrow Z Fold front screens and it was a great choice. You must just have luck of the draw or unluck of the draw as it must just be one of those bad luck things that you jave unfortunately experienced. Obviously OnePlus wouldn't sell a singke ohone if they all had problems. If you happen to be getting the phones for free becaue you have your KZbin channel and get sponsored etc. , maybe they are sending you floor models or subgrade models that have that didn't get sent out to be sold etc.... Definitely seems strange for you to have such bad luck with not just one or even two , but three different phones.....? Very strange and obviously very uncommon and at that, I wouldn't suggest not getting the phone plus open because of what has unfortunately happened to you as it is a great phone and one of the best foldables available at this time. Very much looking forward to the second generation model next year.... I hope you have better luck in the future with them......

I totally agree with you, the OnePlus One is a great phone. I have to buy all my devices, the channel isn't big enough to gain the attention of manufacturers to give me any free review models yet. Maybe one day. I agree I've just been unlucky. I don't know what my secret sauce is. I've never even cracked a phone screen in all my years of smartphone usage which is amazing by itself. We'll see where it goes. I'm suspicious they will get tired of me and just refund me rather than send another phone. I hope not but I would be suspicious too, even though the phones are in mint condition except for the screen issue. Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate your comments and support. You know, I listened to this video again and the line that caught me the most was when you said i'm just going to break it out for reviews and basically said you're not going to use the phone like a normal phone. And that got me to thnking. Is this what I really want to risk going through? Maybe this product just isn't ready for prime time. I'm enjoying the phone, but I'm loving my. S24 ultra much more and I realize it's so easy to hold on to I never feel like I'm gonna drop it. And when I compare the larger inside screen, when I open up something like email, let's say it's almost like I don't need it to be that big. If I really needed it to be bigger, I can just turn my phone into landscape because the s twenty four ultra is so large. So i'm finding myself being in a contemplative space, so to speak. I agree that we're only seeing online the ones that there were a problem with... most people are happy. I have a good amount of time with amazon to fully decide what I want to do, but we'll see. I can say this if the OnePlus open's cover screen were really as big as a regular candy bar phone, It would be, you know a much easier decision.It's because that front screen has gotten so small and i'm just not used to it. I feel like i'm trying to talk myself into liking it if you know what I mean. It's like the techie in me wants the cool new toy and the regular person just wants a phone I don't have to worry about and love.
@GOTgoodoldtech-196424 күн бұрын
@dorothy135 I understand where you're coming from. I multitask a lot with two apps open, which is too cramped or small on any bar phone. I would definitely think twice about keeping it since your carrier won't support it. I believe the only foldable that can come close to the massive front screen would be the Z Fold SE. The Pixel Fold is a little larger than the OnePlus at a full 8" internal; it's wider and taller. I'm sure foldables will get larger in time, just not now. I suggest taking your OnePlus to a local carrier that offers the Pixel Fold and comparing the sizes. You'll have a feel for what is available now and next year. Because no one is going larger than 8". Good luck deciding. 👍
@dorothy13524 күн бұрын
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 Thank you. I did see the pixel fold someone had one in T-Mobile and I got to hold it and I was extremely impressed. It felt really nice in the hand but i'm not willing to go down the road with the other chip and I didn't like the very highly reflective coating that I saw in many videos. If anything I would hold out, maybe for a samsung fold that I could love, I mean, that would be the perfect world. I switched my carrier to T-Mobile so. Regardless of whether I keep the samsung, or whether I go to the oneplus , it'll be supported. That will turn out to be a good choice, because I got a better deal and I don't have to deal with a place that has restrictions on phones that that particular carrier did. Like I said it's gonna come tomorrow because I decided not to keep the one that had been tampered with as I posted in a previous message. And I'll give myself a couple of weeks and I'll make my final choice. The inside size of all of the folds are more than ample. I couldn't care less if it was seven something or 8. It's really all about the cover screen. So one question on that, do you think that the one plus 2 Will have a larger cover screen? And if not, how does the size of the current oneplus, compare to what the SE would be, if that's the route that samsung went down for the fold seven? I realize that no foldable is really gonna ever get to the size of a full phone.That doesn't seem to be what people want. Many people like the narrower screen of the fold six. I think so much of this has to do with what a person is used to. My son will only use an iphone SE. I'd go blind lol. And when I picked up the oneplus, I had that kind of feeling of oh wow, this is small. I showed it to my son and he was like.Oh wow this is really nice. I sound like I'm in a therapy session. It's really funny.It's like my gosh...get a hold of yourself, it's just a phone! I'm in a position to keep both of them in terms of the money. But I just don't want to waste money and get a phone that I don't use this. So i've got the practical part of me versus the techie new stuff part of me. I'll know in a few weeks.

Watching this now on my newly unboxed Fold 6. I jumped on the Z line with the launch of the Z Flip 5G. Had that one until I dropped a lighter on the screen and killed some pixels. I was able to convince the wife to upgrade to a Fold 3 with me and we got them at launch, had them with minor to no issues until the very last day of our Samsung care plan with them. My wifes inner screen developed a line of dead pixels so we put in for a claim on the last day we could. Mine had some burn in and didn't open flat so I put in my only claim as well. Samsung care sent us mint (assuming) refurb Fold 3s. Then Samsung decided to offer us 1000 dollars in trade in for them to upgrade to the 6. Currently I'm using a case from Amazon. It's not the best and is heavy, but it protects well. I have one coming from PITAKA I'm excited about. I am getting a Magsafe grip ring with it. I believe premiering it on the channel as soon as it comes in. It's a brand new product. Here is the case I have now: amzn.to/40Ho9RO

Thank you for your input. OnePlus has been my favorite candy bar style phone. I'm using the fold 6 and was thinking about trying out the one plus fold, Because of you I'll wait for the second generation

@thatguy-st7bw I'm glad I'm able to help. The OnePlus Open is an excellent phone and I am looking forward to version 2 as well. Thank you for tuning into the channel and I appreciate your comment and support! 👍

What did you say about the Z6 in comparison to the Open? It didn't come out clear. Was it friendly? As in the Z6 is not as friendly on the hands as the Open. Just trying to clarify because I don't think the difference in mm's means anything. I'm referring to the thickness. Not the ratio.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
The Z Fold 6 does not feel as good in the hand as the OnePlus. Because the Z Fold is so narrow, it actually cuts into the hands in the corners as well because it's so squared off. I also prefer the multitasking on the OnePlus over the Z Fold 6. They are both the same weight, so that's not an issue. The Z Fold 6 has a faster processor, but the OS doesn't feel as fast as the OnePlus. That could be due to the extra RAM in the OnePlus. Either way, both phones are excellent in the scope of things. But if you're looking for the in-hand feel then I would definitely choose the OnePlus. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for watching and I appreciate your questions.

That's strange issue you have since I have had mine since it first came out and never a issue works flawless. Better luck on your next phone replacement.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
Yes, it seems very odd to me too. Hopefully I won't have any more issues with it and I look forward to the version two. The actual plan is just to trade it in for the next one. I just don't want them to penalize me if the one I trade in has an issue. Thank you for tuning in to the channel. I appreciate your comment and support! 👍

The Honor Magic V3 is pretty brittle, it breaks a lot, just because it's not popular, people don't tend to make a big deal out of it. My OnePlus Open is still going strong after I got it fixed 7 months ago, it broke because my sister did it intentionally.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
Well, I'm glad you were able to get your OnePlus open fixed. It's good to hear it's been running well ever since. If you have some videos or links you could share with me on the Honor Magic V3, I'd appreciate that. Have you used one of the phones yourself? Thank you for sharing. I appreciate you being part of the community. Thank you for your support! 👍

@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 the issue is stated by Average Dad, people did a lot of warranty returns on the Magic V3s, but overall, it's still better than the Open reliability wise
@kevinallridge5092Ай бұрын
@@alexle1935 do you have a V3 I don't know where you're getting this brittle thing at I've dropped mine several times I don't think it's brittle
@alexle1935Ай бұрын
@kevinallridge5092 dropping a folding phone is like dropping a piece of plastic, the inner screen of folding phones are really good against drops. I dropped my Open more than a handful of times and it's still fine. I got my hands on a V3 for a few days and it was fine, I said that the reviews and warranty returns at ADTS raise some concerns, and that's it.
@kevinallridge5092Ай бұрын
@@alexle1935 yes for sure insurance or warranty coverage is non-existent but I did it through a company in the US. I found a company in the US to give me insurance on it hopefully they will honor it if I ever have a problem.

I would send it for repair or for a new one. I had the Samsung flip phone, and it had a black square box on the left of the screen and was really visible when watch KZbin I couldn't stand it and traded it in. Beautiful wife and the pup is cute too.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
Thank you! I totally agree. My pup and wife are very beautiful. ❤️ I appreciate your take on this and I agree, having a defect in the screen is just really irritating. Hopefully they'll just replace it because I don't think there's any way to repair a pixel other than replacing the screen itself. Thank you for your comment and your kind words. I appreciate your support.👍👍

Holy smokes you are not making this easy for me. I plan on holding out for the one plus open 2. So hopefully, if they have any information on the screen quality, they'll have made some improvements. The sale price is right now on the oneplus, open and the google 9 fold... pretty sweet. I think if the google one had the ability to use a stylus. I'd probably go forth and not worry about the oneplus Open quality control issues. I had a dead blue pixel once on an IBM think pad I ordered and I sent it right back because it would drive me crazy to have that and not only that, but they tend to increase in number in my experience.
@GOTgoodoldtech-1964Ай бұрын
I know, sorry about that. I owe you honesty and want to make sure you have my full experience. I love the OnePlus Open, it has the best features and is extremely fast, but when the screen has defects, it ruins the entire experience. After the video I began to realize that the OnePlus Open hinge is not as stiff as all the others. It actually springs closed when it gets close. This may contribute to the issue. Just throwing darts here, but that is the clear difference between the OnePlus Open and the others. I appreciate you returning to the channel and all your comments. I'm glad you're part of the community. 👍👍
@dorothy135Ай бұрын
Yes, I was also watching Shane Craigs channel and about 8 months ago he posted about a subreddit, and people posting about screen issues. He even did his own poll on youtube. But you know, with so many units out there you never really know, and you have confirmation bias with people who are unhappy posting etc. But I am definitely gonna hold out for version two. Because, on the whole specs wise, it offers me the most of what I think i'm looking for. In a perfect world, it would be a samsung. But if it all boils down and things are still up in the air and there are issues, I don't think I'd hesitate to get the google if I really wanted a fold. And I think you actually really like the google unit and we're torn about going back to the oneplus open when you had used the google as an interim phone. Unlike you, I cannot decide to take it and only use it on special occasions. It's gotta be my everyday go-to phone. I have one phone and it's gotta do everything I need.

I mean you could just as easily find people with anecdotes about how their pixel or galaxy screen broke. Most people are dealing with the sample size of one or 2 phones. So good about it. Just not big enough sample size to draw conclusions on

Interesting. Mine is the Onyx Black one. I hadn't heard that before. I can see how it could be a certain batch if some manufacturing sequence was not as it should have been for some of the assembly. That wouldn't be a first. At least it doesn't go up in flames like Samsung with the Note 7. I owned that one too when it was recalled. The key is to own up to it if it's a manufacturing issue. At least they are repairing it with no fees or resistance. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your support! 👍

@GOTgoodoldtech-1964 Well, I'm a senior with limited income as well, but I did work in IT for 30 years, so I am aware of other brands as well. Not only do I have a One Plus Open, without any screen problems, I also have the Honor Magic V3, Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, Vivo X Fold 3, as well as a Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra and a Xiaomi 14 Ultra. There are way more brands and many are way better devices. Don't sell yourself short and remain open to other possibilities. Take Michael Reid (Average Dad) for example, he started with watches, started including phones and specifically Chinese phones and foldable phones. He now also has the Average Dad Tech Store, selling phones online. This probably wouldn't have happened if he just limited his reviews to just watches or a few brands.
