That cinema sins at 4:48 caught me off guard and I was laughing so much. But anyway, I remember first experiencing Viewtiful Joe on my GameCube demo disc. And eventually I got both 1 & 2 as a Christmas gift. As I played the first level, the Soundtrack clicked with me, and made sure these games soundtracks will have a Red Hot place in my heart until the day I die. These games will be in my memories as the games that weren’t afraid to be new concepts and weren’t guaranteed to sell well. I appreciate that a lot, and I wish more devs and producers could possibly adopt this mentality. VJ 1 & 2 are treasures.

I agree with you. 1 was so much fun, had all the unlockables and stuff, the type of game you finish for the first time and go straight to a second playthrough. Also Dante, it was so fun to play as him. But the second bored me quite fast and i really disliked being forced to use Silvia since the little fun the game had was within Joe. I dropped it and plan to try again some time, but i don't think i will ever finish it since basically playing VJ 2 is resumed to "I wish i was playing 1 instead". 2 didn't even had any unlockable characters, while 1 had 4 if you include Dante. It was a huge step down, but i think it would be nice to give this "series" a second try and properly finish it like it was supposed to, but that will most likely never happen. Such a shame. Same situation as God Hand, another god tier game made by the same studio that will never see the light of day ever again, but that game never even had the chance for a sequel. Clover Studios gifted us with some very good stuff, even if it didn't last long. At least they turned into Platinum and are on the market delivering some good games till this day.

Funny thing about the Fire Leo fight. I never got a proper handle on the dodging system for my entire run of the game as a kid. So after Leo started doing the tornado spin thing after losing his shield, I’d hurt him by doing hit and run tactics. As for “hit” part of that brutality, I’d jump in the air and do a Slow ground stomp thing in Zoom, which causes a shockwave that hurts surrounding enemies for scratch damage. I literally could not fathom another way to hurt Fire Leo so that was my go-to on hurting him till he’d jump back into the lava to reset his battle cycle. Easier said than done since his other gimmick was getting faster and more aggressive the more he got hurt. On a similar note, I took out his big brother Frost Tiger in 2 by camping on the bottom layer of the arena and just shooting the side he’d swipe at me from with Silvia for a lot of tedious scratch damage.

Last thing I wanna chime in on. For the first fights with Big John and Miss Bloody Rachel, the big damage dealer is to camp out next to the big dumb dino when he calls for the artillery and then coast on Slow for the blast of the exploding shells to hurt him while ducking harm to yourself.

i liked the story quite a bit even in 2, now on a plot synopsis, it's pretty lame, but Joe really makes it, as his interactions with everyone are entertaining as hell, in 2, even though i agree that Joe being scared of Sylvia is overdone, is still kind of hilarious when he was able to stare down bosses and joke around with them.
