My own “tuxedo gun” is indeed a tuxedo piece: Walther PP in .380 - got it 42 years ago while serving in the Manhattan DA’s Office. Purchased from a retiring NYPD Detective. Fire it a couple of times a year only, now, but in 42 years have NEVER. HAD. A. SINGLE. MALFUNCTION. NOT. ONE. Was a carry piece for years early on, and took it to range often, then. In case this helps, since it was mentioned here about the recoil spring, and a lot of folks are under the impression they shouldn’t leave their magazines loaded full…Springs “weaken” from repetitive cycles, not long term compression or stretch. And when it does it’s not actually “weakening” the spring metal. It’s work-hardening it, so the spring no longer extends to its original extended length, so it’s then applying less pressure onto what it’s pushing against. This is why it feels “weaker”. Eventually it would reach such a hardness that it would break when flexed. Worn springs can and do sometimes break. If they were becoming softer, they’d become less likely to break. There are hundreds of springs all around us that survive many decades in a pre-loaded, stretched or compressed state and they don’t simply turn into limp noodles from sitting around, or else your cars frame would be on the ground and your DVD player would have tiny little springs falling out of the front of it if you pick it up and shake it. But drive several hundred thousand miles in that car and watch DVD’s 24/7 for 15 years and eventually you may break or shorten a spring enough to fail. Folks confuse the hardness of a spring, with the amount of pressure it applies. Totally separate things. Hardness is a metallurgical property of the spring metal. What you feel with your hands when pushing or pulling on a spring is determined more by the geometry of the spring. Length, wire diameter, coils per inch, preload, etc.
@aaronfarnsworth76532 жыл бұрын
Isn't your stated 'work-hardening' just a result of a failure in the design, materials or tempering? You further state that it would reach such a hardness that it will break when flexed. That sounds like a fatigue failure which should only happen when the material exceeds its elastic range, moving into the plastic range with enough repetitions to create a localized fracture. Long before that moment of failure the plastic deformation should show as permanent bends in springs or shortened length would it not? If the magazine or action designs are faulty they could exceed the allowable spring travel. Forcing the material into the plastic range that it should never see. If the spring's alloy and or tempering give it a less than expected compression range that would be another fault. Hope you don't mind the questions. This is enjoyable for me to ponder. It's been decades since I had a materials course.

If Sig had directly copied the Swiss 210 I’d buy one. That Carry version looks amazing but it’ll never be a high volume item. When/if Sig stops making these new models they’ll stop supporting them and you’ll have a pistol that you can’t get parts for, and the Swiss parts won’t fit. I’m considering selling my 556 because Sig dropped all support for it and left me hanging looking for a recoil spring. Hopefully nothing breaks on my 522 either because I SBR’d it and Sig no longer supports it as well. I believe if Sig USA had directly copied the 550 series that they’d still be making them. There’s a pattern to Sig’s behavior: Take a sought after design change it to make it “better” enough that original parts don’t interchange, then drop it and stop supporting it leaving customers hanging. It’s happened to me with my 556 and 522. I have many Sig products and will certainly buy more in the future, but I’ll always worry about being left high and dry needing parts.

Can't you just buy a new spring from a spring manufacturer that isn't necessarily an official recoil spring? I've never done it for a firearm, but I'm a mechanical engineer for work and more than once I've sent a spring to a local manufacturer and they've replicated it for me..

@@danielpope3579 you’re right, I stand corrected on that aspect. However, that doesn’t really help me. Send me a link to a 553 recoil spring if you know where one might be. There are parts on my 556 that are completely different from any Swiss model and no one in the world makes them anymore (all the pieces related to using AR magazines for instance). You also can’t argue that Sig dropping the 556 and 522 (no Swiss equivalent at all for the 522 model) line and dropping support for those platforms has made it very difficult for owners like me to find replacement parts. That was my point in the first place. Kudos to your knowledge of the different models.
@GRMGR12 жыл бұрын
@@danielpope3579 I appreciate the information. I do still wish that Sig still supported the 556. All this would be simpler. I knew once they came out with the 556xi that the platform was beginning a downward spiral. I do still believe that if they’d cloned the 550 series without changes from the beginning they’d possibly still be making them today. Who can be sure though. Suppose it looks cool but I think I’d rather carry my CZ-75 PCR or SP 01. You can swap out the PCR sights (they are ass), get different grips to make it slimmer or wider and it would still be cheaper. I know price isn’t everything but even as a “tuxedo gun” that isn’t made to be super practical I feel like there are a lot better options.
@drivehike43362 жыл бұрын
I have the P210 carry and the PCR so I was able to shoot them one after another. They both shoot amazingly, and I went back and forth about which one was greater. I would say the PCR shoots just a bit better because of the weight, has less recoil. P210 is more ergonomic and a bit lighter. And, of course let's not forget the CZ hold 15 rounds. They both look great. I don't know, even though technically 15 rounds is a lot better than 8 rounds, in the real world they are equal. I have to admit, if CZ 75 never existed, P210 would've been amazing, but only because of the capacity.

Better that this be an EDC for someone for whom price is not an obstacle. Definitely comparable to a high end 1911 for those who want that type of gun

Better with a 365 type magazine. It could stay as close to the single stack grip frame size as possible that way. I'd also want a 1913 rail, fully adjustable sights, extended or threaded barrel, extend the slide and frame to fully enclose the hammer and leave plenty of area on the slide to mount any known optic on the market. I'll decline James' stern suggestion to strike an innocent appendage.

It's normal for a hi end gun to have a 100-300rd break in period. I had a 1911 les bear and a few STI 2011s that require it in their owner manual. Tight tolerances with that glass on glass feel is my jam..
@barneymiller78942 жыл бұрын
This is gonna sound weird, but if your willing to drop that big of money on guns and close tolerances with great feel are your thing I have a suggestion for another object you might love. Look into Chris Reeve Knives, might go with your flow 🤷♂️

Have the p210 target, it’s a work of art, smooth as butter & incredibly accurate. Would love to have the carry version. Having said that, wouldn’t necessarily be my edc. Don’t see it replacing my EMP.

@@Chironex_Fleckeri I carry the Springfield 1911 Ronin EMP…EMP is “enhanced micro pistol “ I think 🤔. They trimmed the dimensions down & lowered the weight so it’s a great carry

@@jkconner9636 Nice. I'll have to add that to list. Gotta narrow it down. I think a .22lr is what I'm gonna use to practice my basic handling skills, accuracy, and good safety practices. But then I'd want to carry something in 9mm or .380 most likely once I've mastered the basics. Thanks for your reply brother

Also i like how straight and aesthetically plain the slide and frame (front portion at least) combination is; matched up with the smoothly-curved grip 👌😌💯

It would have looked more like the original if they had cut off the frame the same depth as the original. How about a rail on the bottom while they're at it? How about a double or 1 1/2 stack mag? By the way: The 1911 for guys who don't want to admit they are 1911 guys would be the P220 single action only variant.

I wish the beavertail wasn't so aggressive (I think it does a disservice to the looks of the gun from the side), I wish they kept the tapered frame-into-slide look at the business end of the full sized model, it could've used some flashier/wood grips, and they could have increased capacity, but I'm glad that Sig is offering this. The Tuxedo Gun category is one that I've always been fond of. Function over form is one thing, but a stylish form can sure be a difficult thing to tear your affection away from. From the Kahr K9 to this P210, tuxedo guns will always have a place in my heart and safe.

Having an issue with my New P210 carry model. Whenever I load a full magazine into my P210 and rack the slide to make the weapon hot if I then eject the magazine to do a tactical re-load to top off the magazine a round falls out of the magazine. This is a regular occurrence. The P210 has never malfunctioned during firing but will almost always drop a round out of the magazine after charging the weapon and hitting the magazine release.

Grayguns has 10 round mags for these. Does incredible work on them. And yes, making them even more expensive. Personally I wouldn’t carry these without the 10 round mags. But I “would” carry it. Would even butcher one for a compact red dot (Holosun 507)
