Abraham’s family were idolaters. This is why God told him to leave his family, country and nation to a place where He would bless him. Blessing him so that he would NOT be tainted by “IDOLATRY”. When God tells YOU to leave a place, LEAVE.

Abraham was not a Jew either. Or noah Or Adam Israel wasn't even a Jew. His sons, now that's where you can say it started. And also remember. The Holy Land was Canaan. And Jerusalem was always known as Holy Ground. The Canaanites knew this. It's where the name comes from. Salem. It means Gods garden or land or something like that. Stop letting people teach you. Abraham wasn't a Jew either. He was called a Hebrew in Genesis 14 before God gave the covenant of the circumcision to him. First time the word Jew(s) was used was 2 Kings 16:6. This was when Ahaz began to reign king of Judah. Long after the time Israel split into two nations. Israel to the north, and Judah to the south. The Hebrews of the south, Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, started to be called Jews. Not sure how Abraham's linage became known as Hebrews. Maybe from an ancestor Eber. But I don't know why that would be.

@eodee8459, Yes, Abraham (Abram) was a Gentile from the land of Ur of the Caldeans. God called Abram to leave his land and to follow Him into the land, which He was giving to Abe's descendants. Abram obeyed Him, and I think it is recorded in Genesis chapter 15, that tells us that Abraham believed God, and was "saved"; today we know it is the way one becomes a believer in Christ and is given the gift of salvation.

@@suzieaguilar397Abram was not a gentile. Abraham was called a Hebrew in Genesis 14. That was before the covenant of the circumcision. While there was an isle of the gentiles in Genesis 10. The distinction was made between the two by circumsion. Abrams linage thru Issac were the Hebrews.. Also, be careful about comparing that Abraham was "saved" by believing God to the way the church is saved. For one thing, the scriptures say that Abraham believed God and it was imputed to him for righteousness. That isn't how Christians get saved. Abraham was before the law, the church came after the law was fulfilled by Jesus Christ. The church follows Jesus Christ, not Abraham. To be born again, the church must follow Christ in his death burial and resurrection. Repentance, dying out to sin, baptism in water in the name of Jesus Christ, buried with him in baptism, washing away our sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Being filled with the Holy Ghost, resurrecting to walk in the newness of life. That's God's one and only plan for the new testament church.

Indeed, Abraham was neither a Jew nor an Israelite. It's simply impossible to be the child of your own grandson. The term "Israelites" refers to the descendants of Israel. Abraham is recognized as a Hebrew. Genesis 14:13 While all the children of Israel were of Hebrew descent, not all Hebrews were descendants of Israel. Moreover, the promise spoke of in Galatians 3:7-18 always included Gentiles. Why? The promise was made to a Gentile man named, Abram ie Abraham. He was not a Jew or a descendant of Israel. Genesis 12:3, 18:18

In fact, Jesus foretold the end of God’s covenant with the nation as a whole in Mark 13:14-18 and Luke 21:20. He echoed the words of the prophet Daniel found in Daniel 9:27, 11:31, and 12:11. In Luke 21:20, the armies surrounding Jerusalem-specifically the Roman army that laid waste to Jerusalem and destroyed the final Temple in 70 AD-marked the moment when God officially ended His covenant with the nation of Israel.
