I think that was an intentional reference to the book. Lecter offers the clue "Raspail" (which eventually leads to the storage unit) as a Valentine; Clarice also finds Valentines inside the car.

Hippo! Ivy My question was directed to Jax, who said it was a rom-com. You were right, it is kind of a serial killer movie, but there are a lot of dark psychological aspects. I watched it for the first time when i was +- 10yo, and it left a great impact on me, but it didn't really understand it untill i was maybe 18 or so. I suggest you wait at least 5 more years, you'll enjoy alot more! Also, if you like it, make sure you watch 'Seven' as well.

I think part of the reason Harris did that was so nobody, including him, could write a sequel to it, not without rom-com-ing…erm, I mean retconning it.

Loved it. Many comments say Anthony Hopkins is still too creepy, but if you have no idea what the movie is about, it might come across as an extremely awkward way of flirting with her. That said, I DID get goosebumps in the movie when their fingers touched for a moment.

How about The Labyrinth as a dark and gritty mystery? Rent as a thriller/suspense film. Eat Pray Love as a horror movie. Crimson Peak as a comedy. Also, not exactly genre-changing, but what about re-doing the Thor trailers as though the movies are about Loki?
