This video describes the six facets of the Agreeableness personality trait from the five factor model of personality. The facets names in this video are from the International Personality Item Pool. The facet names from the NEO-PI-R are provided when the differ from the International Personality Item Pool. The facets of Agreeableness are Trust, Morality (Straightforwardness), Altruism, Cooperation (Compliance), Modesty, and Sympathy (Tendermindedness).
Agreeableness is a personality trait in the five-factor model of personality traits, which is also known as “The Big Five” model of personality. In this model, personality comprises five personality traits: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. The acronym OCEAN is helpful for remembering the personality traits. Openness to experience is characterized by insight, creativity, an appreciation of art, intellectual curiosity, and a high awareness of feelings. Conscientiousness is characterized by impulse control, planning tasks carefully, being highly organized and prudence. Extraversion is characterized by getting energy from social interaction, talkativeness, and having a large number of acquaintances. Agreeableness is characterized by being cooperative, increased level of caring, empathy, friendly, seeking to compromise. Neuroticism is characterized by mood dysregulation, anxiety, worry, depression, frustrating, nervousness, being easily upset, and low emotional stability.

The 5-factor model - I'd like to ask if scores are consistent across cultures or if different cultures tend to score higher or lower on different factors and facets.

I think I had an average score for cooperation. I am competitive but I think about others and what works for the group as a whole.

This was a great video explaining how the facets of agreeableness are measured. I did not know that the morality facet of agreeableness is explained as tendency to manipulate others, rather than acting sincere or doing the right thing.

I enjoyed hearing about all of these personality traits; i especially enjoyed hearing about the morality and defenses topic. Those who score higher keeps their defenses down, while those who score low have there defenses up. This was new information to me. Glad I learned something new.

Really enjoyed this video and I took a lot of notes which lead to a lot of thought provoking questions. Here is some of the questions I came up with - whats the difference between a trait and a habit? Is having an 'objective awareness' of these traits useful in selecting what traits to use in a given situation? and where does flexibility vs rigidness come into it? Are some people more flexible in there use of traits while others (including myself) are more rigid? Is a trait simply a strong mental preference or is it something else? Do traits have certain sensitivities? Other questions is in regards to Personality Mental disorders. Could it be that traits can be so overused (overdeveloped) that this leads to mental disorders? If this is the case how would an individual go about desensitizing the use of certain trait/s. Many thanks

I score high on the trait of agreeableness but I don’t like that too much. I wish I was more disagreeable. Oh well, there is nothing I can do about it.😕 Dr. Grande, congratulations on reaching 551k subscribers!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️ I can’t believe I missed your 550k milestone, I looked yesterday and I saw 549k ...🤔 That is probably a good thing. It seems the number of subscribers is growing at a faster pace than I previously thought. Either way, please accept my heartiest congratulations!!✨💐

Another suggestion, Dr. Grande: a video about the HEXACO and maybe how it relates to the International and/or the Neo. Or maybe how the Hexaco relates to the Big Five. As always, very good content.

I find the domains of personality and the facets to be interesting. Agreeableness seems to have facets underneath of it that I associate with a counselor, so i can see where this test would be beneficial for career counseling.

Some of these seem to conflict with others - someone who cares a lot about cooperation is probably a lot more likely to be deceptive, because being candid and frank often requires opening the door to conflict.

Very informative! Thank you Dr. Grande. Is there a special test psychologists administer to individuals to determine consciousness?

how exactly do you test for these things other than just asking are you modest? etc. I;m a lay person and just watching you because it's interesting. Don't have any idea what those MMSE tests are all about.

i thought being "Reasonable" had it's own category because i feel like i'm that but not necessarily agreeable ( largely in part due to the negative aspects portrayed by it ), but here, reasonableness it's being put under the sub category of someone lower on sympathy, which i would disagree on. also objectiveness doesn't need to be harsh as the way it's being explained here, you can be objective and reasonable, especially in the case of "I" statements where you can still make your point and give a little opinion of your own without being an asshole or hurtful, but also not conform to what other people would normally say. sort of a blend between a middle ground but also saying what you feel makes more sense so that other people may also do the same to have a logical flow of interpersonal communication. i of course would do this and i truly feel that i'm communicating as best and proper as anyone could possibly do so but other people would treat me like shit because they are immature, ignorant or not "Reasonable" or understanding.

Having betrayed by so many people in my life and having suffered childhood trauma in the hands of my own family. I'm comfortable having low aggreableness. Too much trust will leave you in the hands of such psychos.

This is so interesting; especially considering evolutionary game theory. I highly recommend watching “systems innovations” video on the subject. As someone very high in openness (~91%) and agreeableness (~73%) I admittedly resent that disagreeable individuals tend to gravitate towards science more easily relative to us agreeable types. Although I’m very intrigued by maths and physics, I am not in the least bit prone to the disputes that are so commonly necessary for science. Guess I’ll just use my strengths to contribute to humanity through the arts or culture or something else useless lol

How does the agreeableness trait relate to an affective empathy in case of BPD? We know a person w/ BPD has an affective empathy - she feels the pain of others meaning she has negative emotions. And at the same time she can be pretty low in agreeableness trait - at least the facets morality, trust, modesty etc. Any scientific explanation?
