I think the microphone on the camera you are using is dying. The audio sounds a bit crackly when Al is talking. Very noticable on headphones.

Listening to this on pretty high end headphones so it's not on our end. As I said before it's probably just the lapel mic, They wear out and it's extremely common.

Funny thing is your making the assumption that discs are better, this is a work van not race car. The speed limit is the speed limit regardless of how much power you have, the old brakes would have worked the same as they did with this engine as they did the last.
@brosk1s883
@brosk1s883 6 жыл бұрын
Jay Dunbar Al already found the brakes barely worked with the old engine, no way anyone will have any confidence driving this with a much more powerful engine in it.
@jaydunbar7538
@jaydunbar7538 6 жыл бұрын
brosk1s first off they could just be fixed as easily as converted if not easier, disc is typically easier maintenance hence the preference by many. Secondly the engine has nothing to do with the brakes, stopping from 70mph on the highway would require the same braking performance regardless if the van has a 100hp 4 cylinder or 2000hp v8 in it.

6:00 "makes it easy for engineering", so I remember mcm's whole mira debacle with "engineering" and I hadn't even thought of this, do you guys have to do that entire thing for EVERY engine swap you do?? That sounds almost prohibitively difficult/expensive on something like a beat up old van like this, or is it not as difficult if you aren't importing a car? w/e the case is, thank god I live where they couldn't care less what I do. In order to register a car they walk outside and go "yup, whatever VIN you told us is written on it, here's your registration". They wouldn't give me a second look even if my beat up old gasser SUV was spitting black diesel smoke and making turbo noises.

If you choose to use carbon monoxide to purge a fuel tank as shown here, you must be sure that the motor supplying the CO does not have a cylinder(s) that is misfiring. There have been incidents where an engine was misfiring that resulted in an explosion when a spark was created while the tank was being worked on. The reason for the explosion was the fact that the misfire was actually pumping an air/fuel mixture into the tank. Another way to render a tank "inert" is to use CO2 provided from a bottle of compressed gas (mig welders use compressed CO2 bottles for shielding gas). The best method of course is to have a professional do any fuel tank related work as stated in the video. They have the proper tools and safety equipment and experience to ensure there are no incidents.

08:50 - the other method for tanks (and the way I was taught) was to fill them with water when working on 'em. Inerting works but you'd better be sure you have all the fuel absolutely removed in case some oxygen gets in anyway.

They should include a mesh cylinder(s) to hold the sponge in a cylinder shape. With a small collar at the bottom so it's fed up the centre.. when installing.. one for the inside, one for the outside. So it slides over the bottom of the sponge and makes install a bit easier.

Honestly modifying fuel tanks isn't "Dangerous" if done using a good smear of common sense. I've modified several, the key is to make sure its TOTALLY flushed out with water before you cut/weld. oh and obviously make sure your welds don't have pin-holes.
