An imaging guided surgeon (interventional radiologist) & neuroradiologist, author of nutrition, medical & study skills books, Peter Rogers MD is the "Spartan Vegan."
In college he was student athlete of the year at Stanford. Graduated 1st in medical school class.
Dr. Rogers works as neuroradiologist, but also did fellowship imaging guided surgery (interventional radiology) at Harvard. He got fat in 30's and learned his way out. He was one of best medical students in USA in biochemistry and tries to understand pathophysiology. Has written a books about nutrition & study skills including "How to improve blood flow," "Hot topics in nutrition," "Straight A at Stanford & on to Harvard," "How to raise IQ, & become a genius."
Stanford university student athlete of the year, 1985. University of Illinois medical school award for best male medical student in class; best student in pathology; highest board scores in class of 333 students; biochemistry score 780/800, possibly the highest in the USA (biochem is the most difficult subject in medical school). Biochem is “considered” to include nutrition. Residency at Northwestern with 99% board scores. Fellowship in interventional radiology (imaging guided surgery) at Harvard. Fellowship in neuroradiology at Rush.
Author of multiple books about nutrition, reducing risk of disease, and study skills. Discovered almost all the major medical textbooks are 50-100 years out of date, and often, completely wrong. Secret desire #1 = to become a nutrition doctor, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. Secret desire #2 = to rewrite the major medical textbooks, but can’t, because there’s no money in it. The shocking truth is that most medical textbooks are essentially worthless, because they do no include nutrition, and most disease is caused by poor nutrition.

Coming from a long medical background I can say Dr Rogers is what this world needs. No one can say I don't understand with his direct, no bull crap approach. His diagrams and science back up everything his says. Thank you Chef AJ, for all you do to spread the word on health is wealth.

Raw foodists get the majority of calories from fat...and so many are following a high fat diet...many don't look fat buy still go on to have artery blockages...Dr Esselstyn warns about eating a duet that is still high in plant fats...he told me they are still opening the chests of vegans too...bc of all the avocado soy coconut nuts oils

It can’t get more comprehensive than this. Shows complete advantage of what happens in the body when the blood doesn’t flow easily easily when fiber is omitted thus causing the no. 1 cause of heart disease - clots. Thank you for having him.

If saturated fat is bad why are some doctors recommending coconut oil? Doesn't it have alot of saturated fat that could decrease the oxygen in the blood and contribute to blood brain barrier permeability like this video explains in minute 23:00?

ABSOLUTELY GREAT. I have consumed ultra-low fat vegan foods exclusively for the past 12 years after I came down with prostate cancer. Now, I am cancer free, weigh 80 pounds less with my weight in the "ideal" range. My blood work consistently shows in the "optimal" range. Dr. Rogers has become one of my favorites along with Drs. McDoughall, Esselstyn, Barnard, Campbell and to a certain extent Greger. Dr. Rogers' humor, in depth explainations, and enthusiasm proves amazing with every lecture. I read his book, Journey to Optimal Health: Starch Reformation. It proved enlightening even after having read the works of of all the others mentioned above. I hope to see more and more of his work.

I have watched and read for over 50 years,been vegan before vegan was a thing[been vegan for 50 years].and i have learned more in these 2 hours than in the last 50 years.....My new doctor has arrived,cannot thank you enough Peter Rogers M.D.....Love you A.J❤

I love the idea of turning colleges into camps for nutrition education, weight loss, and health! At Michigan State University, many dorms are empty in the summer term. They might be enthusiastic about bringing people to campus.

OMG this is absolutely one of the best talks I have ever heard. I am going to watch this over and over. Thanks for sharing this Chef AJ! Also - I have worked in the medical world for 40 + years and very few people are exposed to these types of ideas. Wish this was taught in every medical school. (Also dieticians don't know about this either - believe it or not)

On Dr. Rogers & biochemistry. It's easy for our eyes to glaze over (and our brains) when Dr. Peter talks about biochemistry. But actually understanding it can really put together part of the puzzle. It's easy to say "I don't understand science", but spending some time learning the basics of chemistry is actually fascinating. I'd highly recommend a KZbin channel, "Kathy Loves Physics and HIstory". To understand how the atom was discovered, the electrons, the nucleus and the history behind it, Kathy is a wonderful teacher.

I’m listening to “How to Fix Your Fat Ass in Five Easy Steps.” It’s pretty great. Dr Rogers should promote his books a little more. Most would love this one. It’s right up there with “Fat Vegan to Skinny Bitch,” “The Pleasure Trap” and “Starch Solution.”

I wrote about this long ago, I was a clerk and then a RN in a then private hospital SF,CA in the late 80's. I spoke to the dietician, the actual person running the food services, while I was a clerk. She was given a budget and also had to deal with what people would actually eat. She had to deal with large food service companies - just like restaurants. She had some private consultations per doctor's order. The biggest complaints in a hospital are ready... the food. She told me she would love to have far better diet offerings - like only fresh food, but it was not possible with the budget. Out of the budget also came the staff in the dietary department. From my experience, older people are a real pain when it comes to their grub. I spent years visiting and then cooking for my MIL and/or FIL. They want, what they want. I'd visit my MIL in the hospital and the biggest complaints from all of the other old ladies in those rooms was the food.

Actually my hospital you can order off the misc or alternative menu. I got huge salad and amazing fresh fruit plate !!! I was surprised and I bet most hospitals you can do better than what they have scheduled to give you . I think most ppl don’t know you can do that, I think even if the hosptial doesn’t have what mine does you can make due but prob not happy

Who would have thought we would still be arguing about fats in 2024. I would love for this MD to have a discussion about the necessity of the consumption of seafood with Michael Crawford. Please, please arrange this for us. As a retired scientist I agree with everything this MD has said except for the consumption of fish. The mercury in fish caused no harm in Japanese children. In fact it resulted in higher intelligence. Not saying the mercury was responsible but it is obvious there are protective nutrients, minerals which renders mercury harmless. The public needs to hear both sides of the debate and make up their minds what constitutes a healthy diet. We are facing a scarcity of intellectual critical thinkers which maybe a contrbuting reason our universities are becoming redundant.😢

Dr Rogers I swear my vision (rosacea blepharitis, dry eyes) was much clearer when i was taking 1-2 tablespoons of flax daily....i stopped doing rhat and am eating about 4-5 handfuls of cooked greens. ..but my eyesight seemed to be better before? My optometrist has said i should go back to flax seed but i havent and have just gone back to using basic 100+ glasses for reading small print..any suggestions? I would like to avoid flax bc of what you say....maybe i should be using the eye drops they recommend too? Thank you

Can we have a discussion on pulses - I'm confused: I thought they are high protein low fat but then I keep hearing on other you tubes they are high fat starches ? I now don't know what to choose. My favourites are chickpeas, butter, cannellini as well as lentils in all colours and sizes, now I don't dare eating chickpeas as they are high fat - or is it amount/ portion driven?

Thanks for this video. I eat a whole food plant based diet, no sugar, no oil, and the only salt coming from the small amount of condiments I use in some recipes. I find that a little bit of nuts, seeds, avocado or olives on my meals helps me feel more satiated and satisfied from the meal. I keep the amounts to a minimal. I find if I do not use these then I do not feel like the meal is complete. Trying to eliminate these higher fat plant foods has not worked for me. Do you think this might be an addiction to the fats in these foods? I heard it can take up to 3 months to get over the desire for the fat. I had done it once, eliminated all fat when I did the McDougall program a few years ago. I found it easy to do it. Then but now I do not find it so easy without that support.

Actually much longer ti get used to eating with no fat. Hard time leaving fat behind is a sign of some underlying insulin resistance and weak liver. Maybe add some celery juice in the morning and your liver will start to heal. Sharing from my personal experience and knowledge gained from years of studies.

What intereste me here (apart from all of the information of course) is the discussion of whether we need some of the added fat in the form of nuts, avacado, etc. or not. It is very popular these days for quite a few experts to say that we need some added fat from our foods in order for our bodies to function properly. Thus the recomendation to add 'healthy' fats from foods and even some olive oil to be sure we are getting enough. I know of one respected doctor who says you can't gain weight from eating fresh ground linseed and avacados. I seem to remember Chef AJ saying that adding just a small amount of nuts to her diet resulted in weight gain. Maybe some people need/tolerate the nuts, avacado, etc. and some people don't?

Hi This respected dr is using fairly low carbohydrate diet. You can’t eat lots of fat and carbs together… and definitely not starch with tons of avocado. If it’s low carb veggies with fat that’s a different story and what’s more in her protocol it’s all raw . We are talking about the same program? Aren’t we? I hope that helps

So you feel that the combination of starches, like potatoes or rice, with an avacado for exampel means the fat will create weight gain, while the same number of calories from green vegetables and avacado will not? Interesting thought. Do we have any science on such an idea?

@@AlchimiedEveil So the idea is that we can either have starch and low fat or non-starch foods such as fruit and non-starch vegetables with fat. I have to admit that this is the first time I have come across this hypothesis laid out in this way.

1:38 Love your show, AJ!!! I can't get enough Peter Rogers! I sometimes eat 20 bananas a day, 10 apples and 5 pounds of mandarins. I do not put on any weight. I can't exactly explain it but it seems to me that if I eat ULTRA low-fat, it's impossible for me to gain weight no matter how many calories I consume. I'm 5'7" and I weigh about 118 pounds
