T90 cast a com game on a regular tiny 2-player map with 8 players

T90 once had an 8 player Forest Nothing on smallest map. They had to disable TC arrow fire for it.

Tatoh and Daut have always been a legendary matchup, even more than Viper and Hera. I still remember that those two got approval from Microsoft to play Tatars vs Burgundians before DE even came out.

4:50 cant remember the name, but my fav was the map where TCs spawn on an island and there is no land to do anything. So you have to transport them constantly

Small map sizes like this make me think about how the Tiberian Sun engine would take the same map dimensions and double them so the map was rectangular, rather than diamond in shape, like it is in Age of Empires. Programming wise the AOE diamond was always the most intuitive, but I felt like the TibSun engine's rectangular maps worked so much better from a visual and gameplay perspective because you never had the ability to see the "void" outside of the map, which is so common in these smallest maps.

Okay, I have an idea. Here's the BIG picture in minimap-esque contours: Tiny maps should be mixed in to tournament maps pools, like just one here and there. Slowly increase the number of tiny maps and pros will acclimate to them over time. Eventually, all of aoe2 will be played on tiny maps!

It would be interesting to have infinite resources, but villagers would have to collect them and those resources being spread out around the map, so players would have to keep map control.

The problem with AOE2 these days from a casual perspective is it's not even strategy anymore; it's whoever can micro faster and multi-task better. That's the main reason this game will never take off any further then it's now.

To be fair, RTS were always more about micro than about strategy, at least in competitive multiplayer games. Your point and conclusion are largely correct, but are neither specific to "AOE2" nor are they specific to "these days". All of that just applies to the genre as a whole, and it always has.

It's not more about micro, there's a lot of macro decisions involved, adapting to the situation and stuff like that. Micro is just more noticeable for us viewers, and also more relevant specifically on these ultra tiny maps.

Strategy is completely necessary, like always making vils, knowing which upgrades to get, which units counter which, how many vils on each resource, etc. You could be faster than any of the greats but if you dont know the strategy you're nothing in this game.
