Excellent, have a kitchen with crown molding that has separated from the ceiling. The contractor used the double cross nail into ceiling sheet rock. Complete rubbish instillation only saved time for him and now i am repairing his work. Took a few years to loosen up. Nice to see you're an actual craftsman!

if you feel comfortable installing that way, then by all means get at it! I like to hit wood when I fasten and found that this way is better for me. It's not a must, it's just the way I prefer to do it.

I always cut them short so that there is space to adjust. There is absolutely no need to make them accurately fit the molding. They will actually fit tighter to the ceiling and wall if you cut them a little shy.

I done the blocking system on the crown molding many times and some amateur told me that I was trying to create something and wasting time... I told him this has been done for many years in fact I got it out of a Victorian all restoration home design where we had to take the crown molding and it was so strong held.. but I don't let those amateurs get to me 😃🤣🤣
