This is interesting and awesome. Normally when Corgan messed w the hits in concert, it was not good. Often ruined the songs, seemingly deliberately. But this is not ruined. This is a super cool alternate way to do this. And it is fascinating bc we are told by the Corgan fanboys online, told endlessly, that D'arcy sucked at bass, couldn't play bass, was a bad bassist. And they say Corgan thought she was a bad bassist. None of this makes sense, there is endless proof to the contrary, but still they say it. Yet here Corgan is at the height of the band's fame, at a big festival concert, and for the biggest hit (the closer?) he rearranges the song to make D'arcy and the drummer carry it pretty much alone.

Theyve been playing this song at every show for at least two years at this point, she BETTER have that bass line down perfect by then. And those criticisms were probably born from the fact that she didn't play bass at all on Gish or Siamese Dream simply because Billy was better and could lay down the tracks much faster in less takes in the studio if he played the bass parts. At the time their studio time was more strictly limited and they weren't super famous so they had a limited budget and it made sense that Billy play the parts if it means they can get it done on time. By Mellon Collie, they were a big enough band to have "however long it takes" studio time, and Darcy was able to play on most if not all of that album. Plus I'm sure her skills after several years of touring after Siamese Dream had improved.

This definitely isn't awful. This is fantastic. I expected it to be awful when it started, bc when Corgan would change the hits in concert it was always awful. But then it wasn't. It was great and turned the song into a haunting kind of thing, and brought the crowd into it turning it almost into a chant.
