Almost. I'd say it's equal I think if the pace was a little faster, it would have seemed more modern and rock-ie. It'a akin to a punk song at its' heart. This I'd say is almost equal to the original. It brings nothing new to the song. For instance the vocal could have even more of a snarl. Think what Billy Idol did for "MonyMony." Billy Idol could have made this a hit in his heyday.
@gunnarprinzmadsen6623 жыл бұрын
Well being that I am from Denmark and live there, I cant see Time Cop. But I like the cover they did on Time Won`t Let Me. But I still wish they would have had the horns as we had on the original song. But grest job anyway. 👍

One of the best covers ever. The Smithereens made this song one of their own. I prefer this to the original because there is so much more body in the bass and drums and so much more fire in the guitars and vocals. The bands changing outfits in the video are a fun concept that ties in with Timecop, a fun '80s action film that somehow managed to get released in 1994.
@gunnarprinzmadsen6622 жыл бұрын
Well, you got to remember that the sound at the Cleveland Recording studio in 1965, cant compeat with the qualety sound of 1994 --- I bet if the Outsiders with th same original setup group would record this tune today, the qualety would be right up there with The Smithereens , so thats my answer to hat Adam Fuller. But I like this recording a lot -- I miss the horns thou. Wich gave the original tune the drive that made it a hit.

The song has that bubblegum feel, catchy with some drive. Its surprising it hasn't been covered much. The Outsiders were known for their harmony's, much like The Association and The Grass Roots. These guys are instrumentally clean and tight, with some thump, solid lead vocal, but I miss the harmonies in a song like this.
@stidwell916 жыл бұрын
It is "harmonies." Apostrophes are never used to make a word plural. Apostrophes show contractions- can't, won't, etc. Or, apostrophes make abbreviations, letters, or numbers plural- CD's, A's, 6's etc.
@chrisbacos6 жыл бұрын
Originally released in 1966 by a Cleveland band called the Outsiders. Like Pat their lead singer Sonny Geraci was Italian-American. Both men are in rock and roll heaven now.

Yeah, and a bit of garage punk, nuggets era sound to it. The vocal snarl sounds tough in the original. Reminds me of 1965 Rolling Stones. It's a very cool simple song.

Now and then, a cover version of a song comes along that is actually better than the original. Well…this isn't one of those times. Even the Smithereens couldn't re-create the magic. You want a big hit? Production matters, hugely. The Cleveland Outsiders had a hit with this because it was extremely well put together, and got it all just right. Actually, the song itself really wasn't much to talk about, pretty dumb TBH. But when you played that 7-incher, that Ohrwuerm just burrowed its way into your brain and took over, and what could you do?
