The Smiths were just so impossibly good. Marr was a genius, and Morrissey at this age was truly, in my opinion, one of the great artists of all time. Like literally in company with Wilde, Proust, Shakespeare. He conveyed so much with such simple words, and so much pain with always a twist of humor. There will never be another like these guys.

Marr is the definition of leaving the audience wanting more. I always wish his solos went on for a minute or two more. So crisp and short.
@svintjvck2 жыл бұрын
@Green Mills that was probably one of the best things i’ve heard, it gives the song such a great imagery, so much nostalgia and a sense of sad hopefulness at the same time, with just a guitar

Absolutelly. The intro of the only live version they played of “some girls are bigger than others” is the perfect example in my opinion

yeah he really should go into a shredding, shrill solo after the arpeggio, instead of ending the song so early

Morrissey often made reference to dialogue in movies; often British movies. In this case the "ten tonne truck" is taken from a line of dialogue in the 1968 movie "The Killing of Sisiter George". George (Beryl Reid ) is an aging lesbian radio actress facing the axe from a long-running serial, and seperation from her younger lover played by Susannah Yorke. George, a district nurse in the radio serial, comes to her end by way of a collision between her motorcycle and a "ten tonne truck". It'typical of Morrissey to use this device. It's almost as if he's teasing us. Asking us to go deeper. To discover the source of the lyric. To discover Morrisey and his inspirations. He's sharing something very personal with us. But we have to do the work. He's telling us to watch "The Killing of Sister George" because it meant something to him and it might mean something to us. But you will never know unless you share his sensibilities. He's telling us you will never know , unless you know me. And in order to know him, you have to be of a special breed.. Of course, that's just my best guess. As for Johnny Marr? That's just genius. Pity it's all in the past.

The Smiths were a once in lifetime band. They changed my life forever. Sometimes I wish more people in the US could have seen them. They were done before we really got to know them here. I'm so grateful to have seen them. I believe it's why we all are flocking to see Johnny. And all credit goes to him because I think he understands that. I’m so very grateful to have seen them. Not many did in the states. I’m seeing Johnny In 5 days and I think I’m going to lose it. ❤️
