@xxczerxx I've seen it said that he was miscast but like you, I find his performance to be such a distinctive and cool portrayal of a mobster. And that a lot of it comes from getting someone more distinctly comedic like Buscemi rather than a known to gangster character actor. Which is why I ultimately think he was a bit wasted with the way they rushed his story into overdrive and ending it in the same season. They had Steve Buscemi, a capable actor established in the show who was apparently signed on for 2 seasons and an (IMO) interesting character premise yet they just flip a switch and have him go self-destructive until the finale.

Start your next rewatch near the end of season 4 (the episode where Ralphie goes to the Bermuda Triangle) and witness the peak of Sopranos writing all throughout season 5 and 6. Then when you go back to the beginning you see how simple things were back then.

@@mkultra2456 Agreed, I've done many a re-watch and it almost makes me cry getting through the first few seasons with "how simple things were" and the general comfiness before the unrelenting, emotional, dreary onslaught of the latter 2 and half seasons. But there has to be a Yin to the Yang, I think the contrast between the earlier seasons and the latter seasons actually benefits the show, the relative lightness (few notable exceptions) of the early seasons helps get you attached with the characters and setting before giving you a hard drop of reality with a healthy serving of philosophical/moral insights and pondering's. Best TV show ever made it goes without saying.
