@@ab497 we could all use a friend like Sil. I've always admired his role in the show and in the family. He's always steps ahead of all the other guys and not afraid to call people on their mess, even Tony. He told Tony about himself and how he's perceived a few times. He told him the truth about the Tony B situation, he tried teaching him a lesson when Tony decided to put Christopher in charge of things, the whole thing with Ralphie, and this.

@NPCSingularity
@NPCSingularity 3 жыл бұрын
@@forcemajeur.5138 I ask the same question every time I watch this episode. Sometimes, I think it was a way of showing Tony the guys didn’t respect Chris and wouldn’t continue to respect him (Tony) if he made Chrissy his successor. If they had respect for Chris, there would have been some hesitation in going to complete that job. Tony told them all orders would be coming directly from Chris. Other times I think, Sil may have been pissy because Tony didn’t consider him as his successor and wanted to sir up the pot. The fact the show makes us question moments like this is a testament to how great it and the cast were.

Tony was to blame for any question in his loyalty, Paulie was around from way back, he did allot of work, he was called upon for the heavy stuff, he loved Tony. Then he starts to get looked over on decisions and loses to guys because a couple of guys put some more money in Tony’s pocket? Loses a decision to that wise a** Ralph? Paulie was a worm. ALL of them were but Paulie takes the cake for me as the most irredeemable and emotional of the bunch. I'm of the opinion he was well aware of Tony's hit at the end of the show and had something to gain. After Bobby was killed and Silvio was shot, he goes with Tony to his house to get supplied; he is all smiles and laughs when we see him though their crew is dwindling every day. Pretty sure he is the new head or enforcer of Jersey after the show and had a deal with New York already. I wanted Paulie to get his due, he killed an old lady only for money to rectify his dwindling status.

It’s not a guarantee that Carmine genuinely didn’t know who Paulie was. He was a cautious man and never said anything definitively. For all he knew, Paulie was wearing a wire. Johnny Sack once told Ralfie Carmine didn’t know who he who he was - and that was a lie as we hear from Carmine’s mouth how important Ralfie is to their business. During the war with Phil, the Lupertazzi Admin discussed which Jersey members to whack, Paulie was brought up as a target and dismissed because he wasn’t considered high administration. They knew who he was.

In reality, even if Johnny did talk to Carmine about Paulie. By LCN rules, Carmine can't acknowledge Paulie if he's not personally introduced by another made guy. I don’t see how Carmine didn’t know who Paulie was. This is a cappo in the Jersey crew that goes back in the mob as far as Carmine did…no way they’ve never met.

Carmine knew exactly who Paulie was, but if hes willing to have Johnny do the talking to tony at an entire formal dinner, he's not lowering himself to talk to some Jersey captain. And Paulie talking about current tension is way above his station, also guys from one families are not supposed to talk to leadership from others paulie could get clipped for that. And finally hes over there talking business at a civilian wedding with carmines wife there, these people around them arent mobbed up and paulies flapping his gums. That "Whats your name again?" was him saying get the fuck away from me you're irrelevant, and it went righ over paulies head.

I believe everyone in life has come across a situation where they may have spoken ill against a mutual friend and later regret things being said…At least I know I have. Can be embarrassing to say the least when it gets back to that certain person 😞

Sil was a true gangster to the end, but his high standards and honesty for the business made him an ineffective boss. Sopranos' character building and writing is bar-none genius.

04:37, I always wondered if it was intentional by Fishlips to just act like Paulie isn't there anymore. He just looks away and resumes what he was doing. Maybe since Paulie was a nobody in a sense from a glorified crew?

I gotta say, I do find it a little bit difficult to believe that Carmine wouldn't have known who Paulie was. He was a senior Capo who'd earned his stripes way back.

true! I think the implication is that carmine was not a “on the street “ kind of boss. He was behind the scenes and kept a low profile without being flashy or going around looking to make sure ppl give him lip service . he didn’t have a big ego , and was in this line of work for the money and not the power or macho stuff

When Paulie says he has a relationship with Tony that the other guy would never have, it shows Paulie is incredibly alone. He had absolutely nobody, no family or true friends. He thought he was important to Tony yet Tony would kill him in a second. He treated the crew as his family but no one really ever cared about him.

Carmine was pretending for sure. Hes a stone cold gangster and he wasn't taking any chances. Look at his face when Paulie explains why he's there. He smelled something fishy immediately and played dumb. I'm not saying Johnny Sac did indeed talk to him about Paulie, but there's almost no chance he doesn't know who Paulie is. Like Paulie said he's been in the family since Johnny boy soprano's day.

With all the issues with Paulie’s loyalty, he was the under boss? I feel like that was a huge plot hole. He doesn’t seem like he could handle that position and if he was underboss, why would he take a captain of the Aprille crew in the last season? Seems like a demotion.
