This is one of the most realistic and sad pieces of acting from The Sopranos. I wonder how many addicts have felt this way? If someone says to me "I don't drink." the last thing I would do is try and make them feel bad about it, in fact I'd support them. Chris had the saddest demise in the show.
@jakep1979
@jakep1979 Ай бұрын
You don't have to be an addict to feel this. I simply can't handle the same amount of alcohol as I used to. For me 2 or 3 drinks & I call it a night (I like to feel refresh in the morning) while I still have friends that can drink 3 times as much as they are functioning alcoholics & don't want to slow down. Naturally I hang less & less with them as the years passes.

Chris was written perfectly in this. Anyone whose ever been in meetings knows there are always people who talk spiritual growth and know the lingo but really they just talk about themselves and their problems. Blow off anyone else’s. When the dude tries to empathizes with him he pulls the old “my situation is worse card” by going on about tony being an enabler. Everything Chris is saying is true. There was another episode where he walks about complaining about other people’s human fraility making him sick. He doesn’t go to meetings to give and get support. He goes to talk about himself and doesn’t give a shit what other people in the meeting are going through. That’s why he never grows. Same dynamic with Tony in therapy.

Benghali In Platforms true and it’s also why 95% of people who go to AA don’t stay sober longer than a year. I would say though that non addicted society is just as fuxked up in this respect. But their not addicts so it comes out in other ways. tony is a perfect example.
@freaky_j2207

Benghali In Platforms true and a glutton for food. Possibly a sex addict. In fact nearly every person on the show is a narcissist in their own way which is the root of their problems. Christopher’s manifest itself in drug addiction which makes him more looked down upon by other narcissists whose issues are less demonized but not always less destructive.

I don't get it, what did Chris say wrong at the meeting? It seems like you are shitting at him for no reason here. People go to meetings to share their stories, to discuss struggles that they encounter in daily lives, among other things. He wasn't pulling any card, he was simply sharing his story. And we don't know what else he does at meetings, we know that he frequents them, but we see only a few moments from them, as they are mostly used to show his current relationship with Tony, not his own character progression.
@falloutworldrecord

Dude, that's the reason why the meetings exist. You're not there to help others fix themselves, you're there to fix yourself. And fixing yourself often comes through blowing off steam in a less self-destructive way. Addiction is a very complex topic

i dont blame chris here for venting on tony. tony was super hypocritical with him always. he thought chris is unstable and might rat him out by 'talking too much' in AA meetings and all the while he's been honing his skills as a mob boss in his sessions with melfi. i wish chris grew stronger and made strides in direction of being boss, maybe we would have seen chris in place of paulie at the end of the series. but i guess the writers just filled in the blanks of what the Godfather part 4 would have been like if Vincent Corleone was don and turned the whole thing on its head with drugs and showed that to us in Christoper Moltisanti. If there's any character i felt was most tragic, it was him. But hey, sometimes you get shot in the foot sometimes your uncle suffocates you to death whaddaya gonna do eh

When Tony finally found out the Christopher was addicted to drugs. Uncle Junior said, "If a dog has rabies. You put him down. You're just now finding out about this. I guarantee the Feds have known for some time. If they grab him in his condition. Who knows what he'll say. You be like me and won't be able to sleep at night." Junior was right. With his drug addiction. Christopher was a major liability for Tony. Christopher should have been "taken care of" in season 4.

@@pksis1788 Apparently AA and the twelve steps plan and all of that doesn't really help. I've known addicts who went to rehab and they pretty much "fake it till you make it" or trade in an addiction for another. Basically, they're lying to themselves that they've gotten better. If anything they always relapse and fall right back into whatever it was they were addicted to before. And if they manage to stay clean for years, they're miserable the whole time.

Dumbest take I’ve ever read. This was by no means the end. His end was when he was out with all the guys and was talking with them about how much he loved his infant daughter only for them to joke about her growing up to be stripper. He realized that none of them were really his friends/truly cared about him, and soon after that he relapsed. Chris being back on heroin led to him crashing the car with Tony where he was pretty seriously injured. Both Tony and Chris himself knew he was too far gone to change - not unless he were to leave the mob life behind, which Tony wasn’t gonna let him do. Tony decided Chris was too much of a liability to keep around and killed him (also to prevent them from having to deal with a whole DUI ordeal)
