Odds are Furio is still alive. Tony said he put out word that furio is a deadman, but when he visited Italy, they barley even knew who he was an clearly didn’t respect him that much. Besides Furio was a top guy and well respect back home.

Furio was a silly made-up character notable only for his ponytail and extreme violence. Take that away and his importance vanishes. Sniffing around other mens wives hardly speaks to class. If he'd married Carmela he'd tire of her scones, fail to earn like Tony and still have his goomahs. Carmela be right back at square one. Carmela probably could a had true love earlier, maybe with a plumber or salesman, but she chose money. She's simply NOT a high enough value women to get a guy thats both an earner AND a nice guy.

The scones are a great metaphor in that scene - Furio recognizes Carmella's skill at baking, comments with great affection and respects her efforts while being cheerful. Tony comes downstairs, barely notices them, picks one up, takes a single bite and tosses it back on the same dish without a care in the world. One shows love and respect, one shows mere convenience and little interest.

"He made me feel like I mattered!" "Oh, poor you!" Carmella was a deeply flawed character, just like every character on The Sopranos, but she was always one of my favorites. If it wasn't for the incredible writing and Edie Falco's pitch perfect performance, Carmella could have easily fallen into being a boring, one-dimensional character.

Furio’s uncle was probably the wisest and most knowledgeable character in The Sopranos the way he warns Furio about Tony and Carmela shows that he’s been around mob bosses long enough to know that while most of them may be violent and dangerously petty and vindictive lunatics they are not stupid or ignorant sucked that Furio disappeared but it probably hints that he listened to his uncle and wisely did what he said

It's why Furio had to take action. He kills Tony and faces the fallout (I doubt he lives long with plenty of people gunning for him to avenge killing a boss and get some legitimacy points) or bails out. If he commited they would be caught sooner or later, someone would spot them or Tony would find out on his own, he's dysfunctional, but not stupid. Or Carmella would flap her tongue and let it slip.
