Merriam-Webster defines pornography in 3 ways. 3. the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick, intense emotional reaction It's not limited to sexual content. Violent acts are covered by this third definition. We'd be lying to ourselves if we said we didn't want to see Tony get involved. This would have finally been a justified act out of Tony's talents. I understand why they didn't do it. Melfi needed to stay an innocent.

Dr Melfi realised in the moment that she'd never be able to live with with what she knows would be the outcome from telling Tony. Knowing that she could and choosing not to was her truly claiming her power back, rather than allowing herself to be corrupted by Tony's.

That scene with Johnny Sack walking in on them as they were making Ginny Sack jokes was some great foreshadowing. You know, Quasimodo predicted all this. As far as Melfi telling Tony, ultimately for her character, it was best that she didn't. A lot of people wanted her to say something but if she did, she would cease being a civilian and would lose all moral high ground against Tony. Which was a key part of therapy sessions with him. It was a hard decision to make but the best one for her character.

In the Mafia and blood family, loyalty is an absolute. For Tony, his absolute trust in Dr. Melfi, and his opening himself up to her, makes her, in his mind, part of his 'family'. But for Dr. Melfi, professionally and personally, she must be at a remove from all her patients, including Tony. Telling Tony, knowing what he would do, would mean that she was acknowledging her inclusion in his 'family' - and that would be wrong as a professional, and wrong for her personally. Once you're in, you're never getting out. It's a measure of her character that she chose her bedrock principles over the satisfaction of a just and violent revenge. A seduction of the show is that we root for the characters in their personal lives, while knowing that most of them are irredeemably horrific because they make their way in the world via loan sharking, robbery, bribery, prostitution, gambling and violence (including murder).

The metaphor of her arm stuck in the soda machine while the mad dog attacks her rapist is that if she buys into the fantasy of sicking tony on her attacker she will be stuck as an accessory and equally guilty of murder and torture and subject to law enforcement and her own conscious and morals and sanity. And possibly loose her medical license and family and friends over the decision. She chose the right path , God , karma whichever will get him without her participation , and it was the police's responsibility to protect future victims not her's, she did her part, she reported it and identified him and gave them the medical evidence and her statement, her responsibility stopped there.

Guys, you're missing the big point. If she told Tony about the rape, she would've lowered herself to the same level as Tony, a criminal sociopath looking for revenge. Her gasping was her realization of how low she could've gone and how easy it could've been to satisfy her revenge (remember what she told her therapist at the end of her session); that's why she tought about it, snapped out of her high for revenge in that moment and said "NO"

I love and hate this episode. I hated seeing this happen to one of the only grounded and ultimately good characters in this show. It was visceral to watch the first time. But, I loved that she remained grounded at the end of the episode. She could have easily sicked Tony on the Employee of the Month. But she rose above it. She pitied that insignificant lowlife and she wouldn't give up on her morals to have revenge on him, even though she admitted to her therapist that it would have been sweet. She remains the one character of the show by which you can measure everyone else.

Melfi cried at the end at the thought that Tony wouldn't be there to be her protector, with her heightened emotions the fear caught her by suprise. She then held the mans life in her hands for a moment, before letting him live. Ultimatley she is a good person, compared with Tony who would surely kill Rossi if he found out, regardless of her wishes.

Little lord f_&k pants whos nickname is that? I could seriously see them rifling through files and wiretaps for hours trying to figure it out lol. Maybe hes the new boss? Have any of the old crew been let out of prison lately? This could take days we'll have to open up the archives, we're going to need more agents from Washington...
