Sometimes it's better to drop 5,000$ to 10,000$ to keep from losing 25,000 to 50,000 in value lost or already paid. If you've paid 40,000 of a 65,000 Dept on a auto loan, but the car isn't worth 40,000 on the open market. You pay to fix it vs lose the 40,000 you can't get back on a totalled car. Cheaper to fix as a opposed to take a 40,000$ hit. Remember you would probably still owe something left of the 15,000 remainder on something that's gone. People do this all the time on very high end cars to keep from losing much much more.

GaPyro 81 - we’re only joshing between us, but come on.... that head on collision... smashing the engine in two, causing the whole car to lose its structural integrity? I see what you mean though, with regards to repairing it no matter the cost, as the car may still have a huge outstanding loan on it, but that’s what insurance is for. Maybe it’s a UK only thing, but we have insurance that pays the full cost out in the case of total loss, minus the usual admin fees etc. So, in closing, that car, even if fixed, would never be able to be driven on a UK road. It’s structural integrity is gone and it’d be forcibly scrapped.

In general, this scene was really well done and sets apart The Sopranos from other shows. It looks relatively small scale but that's just because of how realistic it is.
