For everyone saying ep. 7 doesn't have "iconic" music, I have listened to the other films soundtracks for years upon years and of course they are famous because not only are the movies famous but they are apart of what star wars is. This soundtrack is new and shouldn't be expected to be "iconic" just months after it's release. Listen to just the music off the soundtrack without watching the movie and you will hear so much more that you missed.
@JoeD948 жыл бұрын
I meant to say a lot of people thought it was a disappointment and that Rey's theme was the only good part. I thought the same until I began listening to it more and more and now it's one of my favorite soundtracks ever.

John Williams is also responsible for the 5k played for the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind for Steven Spielberg, this man is a magician to a legacy including an inspiration to musicians around the world for his work on science fiction movies, he is a genius among his peers and has one of the biggest amount of respect that can be held under the musicians title. Imagine the emotional honor it would be for someone to ask you to play a song that people fell in love with over 30 years ago, imagine being that guy with the French horn, imagine being that person with the crash cymbals and every time they ring loud your kids know it's you and smile, the Galaxy love these people as each individual sound carry so much so full meaning. I appreciate all of Jordan Lucas works as so much do that ever worked in production with him

Although loads of peoples are saying "the prequels and originals have better music" I actually enjoy TFAs music the best. In fact, Kylos theme, Reys theme and the Resistance theme are my favourite themes ever... I just think TFAs music focuses more on making you feel the emotion you are supposed to rather than telling you the emotion that you are supposed to. Its just... Less in-your-face than the others

I grew up in a little town in New Mexico. All I ever heard was country music and a little rock. It was not until I sat down as a kid in Jaws and heard a music that elevated story telling. I could not get that Jaws theme out of my head. I bought the album, played it over and over again listening to the music tell the story. My family thought it quite odd. I remember I stood pretending to direct the music. I bought next Closer Encounters of the Third Kind, and then Star Wars. I could not explain to my boot-scooting relatives, whom I love, what this kind of music did to me, for me. It made me study harder, dream more, and believe in worlds grander than I had experienced. I would like to say I became a musician or composer, but I cannot, but it did accompany much of my academic endeavors and lead me to learn more about classical music. I was one of the few people that graduated from college in my vast family at that time. You inspired me, Mr. Williams. God bless.

The score for TFA is astonishingly rich and complex, with some of the best themes and musical moments in the saga. The music for the Jedi steps finale is extraordinarily emotional and drives the entire sequence which has no dialogue or scarecely any sound effects.

This man the the personification of the essence of Star Wars! No one can ever speak highly enough of his brilliance and what this video highlights for me, his passion. I never once conceived the idea he works for pay checks but my word John Williams is so passionate it makes me proud to be a Star Wars fan! I asked a friend after watching this to name his favourite or memorable movie scores and he said "Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Superman, ET and Indiana Jones." When I said (and bare in mind this dude isn't a huge movie fan) "All of those bar one... Same bloke!" He didn't believe me. John Williams is the best. I won't say anymore because it is moot. We all know he is, so I don't know what I'm rabbiting on about. There will never be another like him. So I thank, on behave of everyone, Mr John Willams. It may not be the best, but this is still a great score. Did people really expect it to match the iconic original scores? It had no chance, people are to nostalgic to let it. This is still a Fantastic score in my opinion! (music Is 100% subjective)

it has no chance ? why ? it wasn't impossible , and it's williams himself. he change star wars with the prequels score that it's by far better than the original in different ways but the original can still exist and be what it is. the FA soundtrack it's just 80% ok , ray's theme and .....nothing more well...one or two variations but...ray's theme is better by far than the others.

Like many critical fans, i was not "blown away" by the new material within the Ep7's score. Honestly, i didnt want to hear the old themes, i wanted to hear new themes but with the same inspiration as Ep4. I was let down. But i had a feeling if id listen to Williams interviews about Force Awakens, it would educate me and grant insight into the new themes and score. And alas, it did. I understand and appreciate Reys theme a lot more. And im intrigued by Kylos theme now, honestly its what i wanted. I just needed to listen. Reys theme is doesnt sound triumphant and epic because this stage of the theme deals with her as a lost sole surviver with a dream. So i cant wait to see how her theme evolves. Imagine for a moment, Reys theme but done in the style of the the throne room music at the end of New Hope where they walk up to get their medals. Wow.

For some reason with the new films, the music isn't as appreciated unless you listen to it after or even before you see the film. EP8 for example had no noticeable theme or melody that personally stuck with me. Even listening to it after seeing the film left me neutral. But I think the script is more to blame than John.
@murtazarizvi3686 жыл бұрын
exactly. i think star wars is that movie that was made for the music. GL once said that SW is like a silent series that convey its story through music. but the music is good in the new ones too. i also think the mixing was wrong on so many levels. the opening fare at 2:13 is so grand but the album version is weak.

Listening to the orchestra play Kylo Ren's theme, makes me realise that "yeah, this is going to be a classic Star Wars theme" and if Williams can expand on what he's done for VII in VIII, then we're in for a real treat. Give Maz and Phasma their own themes, and I'll be happy. Those two character's are so cool and interesting (in terms of potential) that they need they're own themes to help cement them.
@GrandAdmThrawn8 жыл бұрын
Well, the only music piece that I remember from Episode VII is from the scene when gen. Hux delivers his Hitler speech. And that's it. The rest is plain. All the other episodes (even Episode 1) had much better music IMHO.
@bavtie18 жыл бұрын
I have to agree that the Phantom menace (and other prequels) had a slightly more memorable track, but that usually came down to one piece in it. Duel of the fates, Lovers across the stars or Duel of heroes in this case. The force awakens didn't have that big, loud, memorable piece yet (even though the march of the resistance came very close) but it still had some great music, with Rey's theme standing out to me.
@GrandAdmThrawn8 жыл бұрын
Bastiaan Wiltjer I guess I had to big expectations and when I finally watched and listened to the movie it just faded away. To be honest , I dislike Episode's 1 story but still i like/enjoy the music. TFA is different - it's just a movie with a score.
@bavtie18 жыл бұрын
+GrandAdmThrawn I dislike the prequels a lot, and I still love the soundtrack. It's just that I usually think of scenes in the movie that the score accompanied, which isn't much good with the prequels. However, the reason why the Force awakens' score was a little less good might also have something to do with the fact that John Williams has been sick for quite a while. I really hope he shows himself at least two more times in episode VII and IX.
@GrandAdmThrawn8 жыл бұрын
Bastiaan Wiltjer I do too and I hope EVIII and IX will be much better than TFA.
@bavtie18 жыл бұрын
GrandAdmThrawn The score or the movie? Because I loved the movie, but I only liked the score. I mean, of course I'm hoping the next two will be better, but I still thought it was a great overall movie. At least a ton better than any of the prequels (better caracters, story and just overall filmmaking)
@joshuagordon50188 жыл бұрын
I was thoroughly pleased with not only how good the soundtrack was, but how it also had subtle differences from the first two epic trilogy soundtracks. John Williams helped define this new trilogy as its own, and gave us even more iconic themes like Rey's theme, Kylo Ren's theme, March of the resistance, The Starkiller, etc.
