𐭯𐭠𐭫𐭮𐭩𐭪 (Pārsīk or Pārsīg)
Region: Sasanian Empire (224-651)
Ethnicity: Persian people
Era: Evolved into Early New Persian by the 9th century; thereafter used only by Zoroastrian priests for exegesis and religious instruction
Language family: Indo-European (Indo-Iranian)
Middle Persian or Pahlavi, also known by its endonym Pārsīk or Pārsīg (𐭯𐭠𐭫𐭮𐭩𐭪) in its later form, is a Western Middle Iranian language which became the literary language of the Sasanian Empire. For some time after the Sasanian collapse, Middle Persian continued to function as a prestige language. It descended from Old Persian, the language of the Achaemenid Empire and is the linguistic ancestor of Modern Persian, the official language of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
"Middle Iranian" is the name given to the middle stage of development of the numerous Iranian languages and dialects. The middle stage of the Iranian languages begins around 450 BCE and ends around 650 CE. One of those Middle Iranian languages is Middle Persian, i.e. the middle stage of the language of the Persians, an Iranian people of Persia proper, which lies in the south-western highlands on the border with Babylonia. The Persians called their language Parsik, meaning "Persian".
Another Middle Iranian language was Parthian, i.e. the language of the northwestern Iranian peoples of Parthia proper, which lies along the southern/south-eastern edge of the Caspian sea and is adjacent to the boundary between western and eastern Iranian languages. The Parthians called their language Parthawik, meaning "Parthian". Via regular sound changes Parthawik became Pahlawik, from which the word 'Pahlavi' eventually evolved. The -ik in parsik and parthawik was a regular Middle Iranian appurtenant suffix for "pertaining to". The New Persian equivalent of -ik is -i.

It’s amazing how Ferdowsi revived an ancient but flawless language like Middle Persian, and reinvigorated it to be so strong that a native speaker or proficient speaker can understand 80-90% of a language spoken back in 300AD (around that time)… Thank you Ferdôwsi, for keeping a beautiful language intact for so long!

@@lionberryofskyclan It's the same word in most Indo-European languages. Italian "neve" from Latin "nix, nivis" simply lost the s- at the beginning of the word. The English "snow" kept it instead. Lithuanian has "sniegas" if I recall correctly.

Go to Badakhshan and rural areas of Balkh province of current Afghanistan and you hear this language, more or less 92 percentage. Dari Persian dialect is literally Parsig Sassanid. Proud of it ☺️.

Persian with no Arabic loanwords sounds pretty cool, but from what I understand there are not that many Arabic words in Modern Persian as most people might think. English has a lot more French and Latin words than Persian has Arabic words, for example.

Yea the fact is that there is Persian words for it but people are still used to use Arabic words, I personally try my best to use Persian words and even without all of that in normal daily speeches , you could say theres like only 20% or less Arabic root i guess.

there is actually quite a lot of Arabic loanwords but the difference with English is that in Persian although it would be obvious you're using native words for the sake of it, it would be very easy to speak without loanwords as almost every loanword still has its native counterpart preserved.

Eh.There are considerable amount of arabic words in Persian.The Influence of Arabic might be similiar to that of Latin on English,Really.however It is possible to speak Modern Persian With minimal Arabic loanwords.Its called Farsiye_Sare(Pure Persian).

The phrases are almost same as Ferdowsi Shahnameh poems. I am Persian tajik in ethnicity, from Ghazni of Afghanistan, i understood nearly all of it, Dari dialect of tajiks are the one most similar to Sassanid middle Persian language. Dari dialect real meaning is that in darbar (palace) and government state this way of speaking was used to. Great video thank you

I'm a native Persian. This is 99% modern persian. Some words has been a little distorted from it in 1400 years, and a few has been replaced by Turkish or Arabic words, which soon will be purged out of our ancient language.

The real name of Middle Persian is Pārsīg. Pahlawānīg (Pahlavi) was the name given to the Parthian language in pre-Islamic Iran. However, in post-Islamic Iran, in order to distinguish between New Persian and Middle Persian, the former was called Parsi / Farsi and the latter Pahlavi / Fahlavi. At present, Iranians know the Parthian language as the Arsacid Pahlavi and the Middle Persian language as the Sassanid Pahlavi. Today's southwestern Iranian languages, namely Persian and Luri, are derived from Middle Persian (Pahlavi).

in my local language we just call it kinda thw same, instead of xvash , we say “Khash” and ye we should say Bamdad nik or Bamdad khash, sounds much better and much more Persian :)

But i mean its pretty easy, i give an example: Basi ranj bordam dar in sale si, ajam zende kardam bedin parsi Everyone would understand the above verse Without any problem.

Especially with the vocabulary, you can REALLY hear A LOT of similarities with Sanskrit. Indeed, they're both Indo-European languages but, to break it down even further, they're Indo-Iranian languages, which means they're even more closely related. What a fantastic video!

Especially poetry like epic of ferdosi, saadi, hâfez And etc Each wrote poems which were 99% persian, every words and grammar Through that we learn some words so thats why we cna understand(you'll know even more if you go "olumé ensâni" branch of highschool or study persian in university

@@soheilvalizadeh9647 Also a lot of arabic words we use don't have the same meaning as in arabic and some of them are even meaningless in arabic. Forexample the word محقق means detective in arabic while in persian it means researcher which we also use the word پژوهشگر instead of it. another example is the word متظاهر which means demonstrator in arabic while in persian it means a fake person. There is also persian words in arabic like masjed مسجد which come from ancient persian word مزگت which means house of God.

This sounds like reading Shakespeare, still understandable, but even more understandable if you know cultural contexts. For example Spahan is pronounced as Espahan in modern day Persian, which is just an older name of modern day city of "Esfahan". I think the Arab influence caused some "P" words to change to "F" words. Like Pars becoming Fars.

Interestingly enough, the games are largely based on Islamic-era Persia, during the Islamic Golden Age of the 9th and 10th centuries, but the film takes place in Sassanian times, in the 5th or 6th century.

Tajik is a more "purer" dialect of persian so yeah, thats why Btw modern persian was made there so thats anothe reason

@@arian6346 it wasnt made there, it was basically revived there, the Persian language originated in Persia, a Satrap of Iran and the home of Achaemenid and Sassanid royal House , we call it Pars and the language Parsi, its in the southwest of Iran.

Samanids revived Parsi after 300 years of silence, Tajiks must be proud of what they have accomplished, Rudaki, Daqiqi, Ibn Sina, Beruni, Firdausi, Rumi and many more are the greatest Tajiks that changed Parsi language and it is because of them what Parsi is today.
