Luri زون لوری
Native to: Iran; a few villages in eastern Iraq.
Region: Southern Zagros
Ethnicity: Lurs
Native speakers: over 4 million, circa 5 million
Language family: Indo-European (Indo-Iranian)
is a Southwestern Iranian language continuum spoken by the Lur people, an Iranian people native to Western Asia. The Luri dialects are descended from Middle Persian and are Central Luri, Bakhtiari, and Southern Luri. This language is spoken mainly by the Bakhtiari and Southern Lurs (Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Mamasani, Sepidan, Bandar Ganaveh, Deylam) in Iran.
Luri is the closest living language to Archaic and Middle Persian. The language descend from Middle Persian (Pahlavi). They belong to the Persid or Southern Zagros group, and are lexically similar to modern Persian, differing mainly in phonology.
According to the Encyclopædia Iranica, "All Lori dialects closely resemble standard Persian and probably developed from a stage of Persian similar to that represented in Early New Persian texts written in Perso-Arabic script. The sole typical Lori feature not known in early New Persian or derivable from it is the inchoative marker (see below), though even this is found in Judeo-Persian texts". The Bakhtiāri dialect may be closer to Persian. There are two distinct languages, Greater Luri (Lor-e bozorg), a.k.a. Southern Luri (including Bakhtiari dialect), and Lesser Luri (Lor-e kuček), a.k.a. Northern Luri.

Lorestani or Lori is a descendent of the Sassanian middle Persian "Darbari/Palavi" language which developed separately from Dari, Tajiki & modern Iranian Farsi.

@@ibrahimhercules9466 Yes souther Lori/Bakhtiyari is very similar to Tajik. But Northern Lor gets very interesting; it’s essentially the same Lori but the way we pronounce the words and some components of our dialect is a reminiscent of actual Pahlavi ancient slang.

I saw comments and wonder how desperately some juvenile kurds wants to find some ethnic brothers. I want to tell you something honestly if they fathers wouldn't consider themselves pure iranian the country long gone apart. like being in heart of mashrute, Iran-Iraq War and combat against Kurdistan insurgency. As Azeri long living between them their tongue is more intact and archaic than persian and much more iranian than me and even more than persians.

Luri just like modern persian and kurdish os from middle persian. Modern persian has influenced it alot. (Unfortunatly a lot of vocabulary is gone) so sothern luri and Bakhtyari are considered dialects while northern luri is a language. I wished there were more researchers on Luri

Persian is a mix of Arabic and Middle Persian. And kurdish is not from Middle Persian: Xenophon (Greek historian) reports that in a state called "Corduene" (the Persians still call us Kurds "Kord" or "Cord"), which is located in today's Kurdish province of Şirnex (şirnak in Turkish), a dialect of Scythian was spoken. In relation to this state (Corduene), only the Medes and Scythians are mentioned, but not the Persians.

Northern "Lori" is actually incorrectly called Lori. It is actually Laki (which is very similar to sorani kurdish/Kermanshahi kurdish). Pure Lori is southern Lori and Bakhtiayri. I'm from Nurabad/Mamasani, and this is the real Lori. Persian speakers from southern Iran (Kazerun/Bushehr) understand us very well. Kurds only understand a few words

Kurds are four groups : Kurmanj, Goran, Kelhur, Lur. Source : Sharafnamah Author : Sharafkhan Badlisi - several centuries ago. But as you see, pan Iranists claim even God is Iranian and Persian hahahahah.

Same thing was said of shabankara and daylamites, it doesn't mean that they were "Kurds" in the modern sense. Its one of the Kurdish dialects as we will see in all history book luri language is has lot of similarities whit Kurdish language so that will tell us how the Kurds divided 5,6 a part between sovereign powers I think luri s people should stop counting themselves as a Iranian cause this is the Iranian,Turkish,and Arabs government policies to discriminate and assimilate Kurdish people…
