RailMart has recieved a number of requests for trips over obscure freight branches, So we have dug this one of the archives. This is a trip from St Catherines Junction, south of Doncaster to Kirk Sandall via Bessacarr and Armthorpe, passing the site of the once Markham Main colliery. Just a short video over the now little used single line.
When coal was king this line was busy initially with trains going to Immingham to export coal from the South Yorks and North Notts collieries before the tide turned and coal was imported and saw the loaded trains going in the opposite direction towards the power stations on the lower Trent valley.
Unfortunately as with all our older videos the sound is muted. We hope this doesn't detract too much.

Lucky for you, St Cath’s Junction lies near to Rossington I’ve seen this first hand as I live nearby. Not a lot of traffic anymore hence it not being busy much, but a great video all the same

I love these freight only lines as it gives me, as a ordinary rail traveller, the chance to see what I would never normally do. More please when you have the time to upload, thanks again.

If Doncaster ever gets the train tram I think this will be the route they will use to start with.

Any idea what train we're on? Is that a headboard up-front - maybe a charter? Mother Nature seems to have been working much harder than Railtrack/Network Rail: even ignoring the complete disappearance of Markham Main, the line 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 it's always been single-track, with only the bridges pointing to double. Nice to include the 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑜𝑛 for the signal stop too, and interesting to see a flashing green - not 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 common. First of your videos I've watched, very well captioned so you just gained a new sub.👍👌😁 Happy New Year from the Highlands of Scotland, Dougie.

It was a light loco class 66. The green whilst it looks like its flashing is actually an anomolly caused by the frequency of the electricity and the frame rate on the camera. The electricity is ay 60 Hz and the frame rate is 60fps.

Such a beautiful scenery!! Is it possible to record sound as well? otherwise maybe a bit of music?

Our videos today we do have sound. Unfortunately at the time we couldn't record in cab sounds. I did put music on some early videos but was berated by negative comments so opted to just let the viewer do what they want for sound. I find Pink Floyds Dark side of the Moon is a great acompanyment.
