I came in honor of Henry Fambrough the last surviving original member of the Spinners. He passed away at 85. Rest in Paradise. He lived a long life and left a legacy of great music. Awesome live performance. They were smooth with those moves too. Music like this is long gone and not being made today. But thank goodness for the memories and archives that harbor their great music. So many great talented male groups from this era. Grew up listening to these tunes played by my parents, aunties and uncles and cousins. Happy to have this music which shaped the fabric of my life.

WHO IN THE WORLD didn't like THIS performance? Man, some real assholes on KZbin... What a great song, great performance - great everything. WHAT HAPPENED TO SOUL MUSIC? How did things get so effed up? The singing, the dance moves, the clothes - perfect. And the band is KILLING it - especially the drummer and lead guitarist. (Sigh). Would LOVE to be given a good reason to listen to something other than soul oldies but alas...

I'm astounded by the enormous amount of effort the wonderful performing groups of this time period put into their songs. Every song had its own distinct choreography. It must have been so much to learn, then get it right every time. I miss the whole era, and the way it seemed like there was no end in sight for the long list of hits. My sincere gratitude goes out to anyone who played a part in the entertainment we see demonstrated here. That includes the dancers on the programs, too. Oh, how I wish we had it to do all over again!

A lot of Spinners fans think that Phillipe sang lead on all of those 70's hits.. Bobby Smith was the primary vocalist from the very beginning through the 70's. G.C. Cameron (Phillipe's cousin) sang lead on this one when he was a member for one album (1970). G C recomended the Spinners hire his cousin Phillipe. They did and he helped them achieve star status (with Bobby Smith).

+Stephen Silva Always thought the singer on the studio track of this song sounded much different than the one on all the other hits like "could it be I'm falling in in love" and many others that I can't think of right at the moment since I'm drinking vodka...."rubber band man"......"I'll be there...I'll be around" ....when ever you call me, I'll be there...when ever you need me I'll be there....when ever you want me...I'll be there...I'll be arooouuuund....bass riff.......
@renaissanceman1658 жыл бұрын
Yes, Bobby sang lead on. "I'll Be Around, "Could it Be I'm falling in Love", and. "Mighty Love" with Phillipe, and a slew of others. I won't go into now, but often Bobby would start songs, and Phillipe would come in at a later point. On "Could it Be..." he ad libs on chorus. That's why they were called the "twin voices" because they sounded similar. You have to listen close to detect the difference. Phillipe had slightly more range and volume in the upper register, Bobby's style was more laid back. Bobby sings "Games People Play" and many 1960s cuts. I especially like "There's No One Like You" featuring all three lead singers, Henry Fambrough, and both twin voices switching off and overlapping on the bridge. Check it out! Ciao!

Sad when Wynne left group to go solo because he wanted to be billed as lead singer. Same reason Ruffin left Temptations. Wanted group to be David Ruffin and the Temptations just like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson had names out front. Surprised Wynne flopped as a solo because he had one of the best voices ever. To drop dead on stage at a small venue with no success after the Spinners still make me sad.

I wonder if that was the Funk Brothers backing them up? This iconic bass part in this song was played by James Jamerson and I couldn't tell if that was him up there in the shadows.
@billbrandine585710 ай бұрын
It doesn't look like Jamerson's profile. And this bassist seems to be holding the instrument up higher on his body than Jamerson would have. This guy also has a full head of hair. Jamerson had his hair tightly cropped and it was never long. But the bass part is Jamerson. My guess is this is not live and they're lip-synching to the recording. As long as it's not live, anyone can be up there.

What I wouldn't give to see this entire program. And I'll ask again, are the pictures on their debut Atlantic LP 'Spinners' taken during this taping? Their suits and the background look the same. These guys are just awesome. Legend. If you notice, the live band behind them is just jacking the tempo quite a bit faster than the record..nervous energy? afraid to own the original groove? but the singers play the cards that are dealt them and just sing their asses off. I love this. This was a great group!

Cameron sang both the mid and upper registers; here, it's split between Wynne. & Henry Famborough.
