Very interesting. So the hot wire in the extension cord is connected to the positive panels, and the neutral wire to the negatives? Are you using a ground?

Are the stakes non-conducting? Like wood or fiberglass?

Is it 120 volts positive and negative plugged in.

May I suggest using a roll of thin sheet metal, maybe 20-inch to 24-inch wide, then wrap it around the base of the tree trunk. Rats are usually unable to climb up a smooth vertical surface.

Squirrels can jump 4 ft vertically so if you don't have a mature tall tree they can jump right up to the branches.

To connect the electricity to fence, do you just split the extension cord and run one leg to neg and one to pos? Thanks,., great video!

The positive is on one group of the fence and the negative is on the other group. So when the squirrel touches the positive and the negative completes the circuit and gets zapped. You want to start with positive near the ground because he is standing on the ground first and will sniff the fence and get zapped. Then he will try to jump onto the fence and will make the positive and negative connection and get zapped again and he will stay away. You do want to run a small ground rod for all the negative for safety for other people not getting zapped if something malfunctions. In my set up I did not add the ground rod that will be done correctly this year.

@@HHOGAS I'm trying to understand what you mean by " You do want to run a small ground rod for all the negative for safety for other people not getting zapped if something malfunctions."

Are you using a ground too , Thanks

Wow brother, that’s a lot of effort to protect a tree. Why not try some hot pepper powder? That’s much cheaper

I searched for this video with the thought that people in Australia might be able to do something like this to at least keep the mouse plague out of their homes as they are in a desperate situation!!

This look Like a killing centre - too complex for me - i prefer the rat zapper - Will take care of most rodents inside and particularly. Only need 4 d batteries,1 peanut and you retrieve the peanut at the end of the season - i would keep the fence up and would wager your rodents woud enter the rat zapper and have a quick death - research the actual rat zapper - i have two since 2009. I has been 6years since i last used and now I have been dealt gophers so the traps are out again - looking to reduce the flock then will apply deterrents to keep new rodents from entering my yard
