Nicely done. My son and I sailed on the Badger in 2013. It was the first time I had been on a ship since 1974 when I was in the Navy. We loved it.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I was born, raised, and still reside in Ludington. The Badger has always been important to me and my family. If they announce the Badger’s departure, I would love to see you make a video of it leaving Wisconsin. Well done, sir. Thank you.

Greetings Kevin, Nice story, Us old timers have a couple of issues with your presentation. Although minor. I have sailed on the Badger and several Interlake vessels. I was taught everything is called a BOAT on the great lakes. Exception being salties. Also everything in regards to speed is in MPH. Thought you may find this interesting. Again, Thanks for the nice work, looking forward to more. Regards

Beautiful….do you need special clearance to fly a drone over the shipyards or vessels?
@KODOPhoto2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It is against FAA regulations to fly over motorways, over or under bridges, crowds, railways, rail yards and shipyards. Also private property (without permission). That said, I see drone pilots do it often. Big risk and such willful ignorance is a menace to us all. There is only one time I flew directly overhead of a vessel and I had the captains permission in advance and his knowledge at the time through direct communication. Editing software and use of a telephoto lens may give the appearance that objects are underneath the drone optically, but in my case they are not. I am very careful about this.

Thanks, jlions. I do like that idea. I'll try to work that idea into a future segment.

How did you coordinate your drone shots with the other drone(s) in the air (especially downtown) and not crash into each other?
@KODOPhoto2 жыл бұрын
There were other drones there? LOL! The drone app I use tracks and alerts me of other drones (and aircraft) in the area directly on my screen. Fortunately, the sky is big and considering my drone (and most others) is not much bigger than a cell phone, I am not too worried about colliding with another. If/when I see other drone pilots we chat before we launch to coordinate a basic flight plan. That said, there's still a possibility that we could accidentally meet. Perish the thought!

Boilers were shut down a couple of weeks ago. Too costly to fire them up for one short trip.

Kevin what is your tripod that you were using?

Do you like it? I would love a gear review video of what you like to use.

My primary tripod (for photography, not vlogging) is a Really Right Stuff Versa Series, TVC-34L Carbon Fiber (Long). I love it but it's a beast. Also it comes with a 5-year warranty.

Will coal-fired boats get outlawed given global warming concerns?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

I’d say in the grand scheme of things a single, relatively small ship of historic value isn’t much of a threat… but then again some might view it as an easy target. Personally think even the environmentalists should want it around, even if only as a demonstration piece lol, lot more good here than bad.
@jonathanellsworth212 жыл бұрын
To clarify on the demonstration bit, if people are really that concerned about environmental impact of one ship that they’d want to shut it down, why not keep it as an education piece instead? Keeping it operational, showing both the good and the bad, including exactly what the environmental cost of keeping just a single ship going is, and how us “old fashioned people” lived during the times, pollutants included so people can experience it. Keeps the past alive in a way even an environmentalist can agree with
@connorkilgour33742 жыл бұрын
The ship has filters now that greatly reduce emissions. Also I believe the soot from the stack is collected and used in the creation of cement. They had to make these changes in 2015 in order for the ship to remain running
@mattharper588 Жыл бұрын
With the ship burning coal they use to dump the ash into Lake Michigan while they were under way but when they installed the pollution control scrubber system they also retrofitted it with bunkers to store the ash until they get to port where it is then removed
