The Start of Enmeshment and Its Impact

Exactly what I am going through right now, just started trauma therapy/EMDR for this

We need more advice on what it means to set healthy boundaries. Telling enmeshed people who were never able to set a boundary in their life and who live a life of secrecy because of their toxic coping mechanisms, who do not even know what a healthy boundary is, to set boundaries, is counterintuitive. Then they hear videos and read books saying be selfish and set boundaries and don’t have guilt and shame , so they go and immediately practice setting “boundaries” with their partners and not the parents and the so called boundary they think they are setting is toxic to the relationship. Also there needs to be more emphasis on being enmeshed with mentally ill and or dangerous mothers or fathers. All this “you can maintain a relationship” advice is not taking into consideration that the parent could be dangerous and the victim who lacks identity or critical thinking around this topic blindly listens to this generic advice. How do I know? Im living it.
