I did a history undergrad and half way through I found my love for the ancient world. For me it will always be just a hobby because barrier of entry is so high in terms of having a career in that field. I’d basically have to do undergrad all over again then do the 7 years of post grad it’s just hard to justify especially in this economy. Ancient history studies and classical study is a dying discipline in the 21st century sadly. Education in general has a very low place in our capital driven world.

Having to read books you dislike is such a reality of college. That was a good point.

In Poland, half of the previous government were historians. Is it feasible to go into US politics with a history background?
@ThersitestheHistorian7 ай бұрын
Possible, but definitely not the norm. Newt Gingrich's background was in history and he became Speaker of the House in the 1990's. Most American politicians, however, are lawyers. The number that I learned studying Political Science in the late 2000's is around 65%. I don't think that has changed, but I could be wrong.

I enjoyed the insights about history in college, in studying something else but is an interest of mine and have an Egyptologist friend so I consider it a “peak” into the other side. Interesting to hear what goes into the process of being/becoming a historian

Thersities, thank you for telling history AS IT IS, without modern moral notions of morality. I recently listened to a history podcast where a doctor of medieval history was condemning Rome for it's use of slaves, tying that to the slave society of early America, concluding that America wants to be Rome. History isn't political, I'm just happy you're here.

As an apple student i shall never let an orange man transition my study field to theirs thanks for the great advice! Seriously though much of what was said applies to other schools aswell, except in medical school it’s the handsome guy who runs the space because most of the med students are girls here

Who is the historic Thersites? Have you made a video about Thersites?

Sadly I cant really understand her on her mic. I have hearing damage and its just too dissonant :(

"Crossing the Rubicon" is going past the point of no return. That's all. That's why its commonly used and I don't have a problem with that, even though they are overusing it. Very rational discussion until the Germans and Confederacy came up as topics, then the religious session began.
