I brought a ps5 recently for ffxvi completely regret it as it weren't that good and is now on pc. It sits in my house and collects dust. Would rather have a pc that boots straight up into steam big picture mode connected to the TV instead. Steam deck is my main console.

Steam Deck saved gaming for me. I dabbled in PC gaming back in 2013 and I had a bad experience with it. I bought a computer that ended up not being built partcularly well and I didn't have the funds to repair it much less upgrade it for better fidelity. I had always been a console gamer and so I went back to it. However, my experience with returning to console gaming just never matched up to my enjoyment as a kid. The experience just wasn't there anymore for me. I started playing less and less games because of it. I might have a couple I was really into but thats it. Then the Steam Deck came a long and I was skeptical because of my previous PC experience, but I took the chance. IT has been everything and more. The flexibility you talk about is easily the best thing about it. Being able to play anytime and anywhere. I had all my games in one place and while I had to build a library, the experience made me feel like gaming as I did when I was a kid. The immersive feel. I've enjoyed gaming so much more in the last 9 months then I probably had in over a decade.

I swear people upgraded their GPUs to play Cyberpunk and BG3 and then ran out of games to play. I know so many people who purchase 1000$ GPUs to play World of Warcraft. WoW can run on a GTX 660.

Pros and cons to different setups. If cost were the sole factor nothing is cheaper than owning a pre current gen machine. An Xbox 360 will run you less than $100ca. Games go from $5-20ca. Staying on the bleeding edge? That will always cost most especially if you want to own the hardware and software. Since you likely already have a fast internet connection the cheapest (arguably the most convenient) bleeding edge option is going to be a cloud gaming option like GeForce now.

Steam games are universal. You can swap them with every device you own. Try that with a console. If you own a laptop & a handheld pc you can load steam games onto a single hard drive & share that HDD between your handheld & laptop (& even desktop, if you had one) with no additional downloads. However, this feature is useless if you use a Linux based steam deck. If you have multiple types of gaming windows devices, now we’re talking. I own more than half a dozen, & while I do own a steam deck with windows installed it’s nowhere near my favorite b/c it’s under-powered. I can’t imagine spending anywhere near that much on a steam deck, per se, but if you have hundreds of interchangeable steam games playable on the deck, then you sorta did spend that much, in a roundabout way.

I'm kinda scared for nintendo honestly. I mean, they definitely arent gonna go anywhere since they're so entrenched in gaming culture. But no matter how long they try to stay out of the gaming arms race, they will eventually have to reach the point of graphical fidelity thats crushing the game industry right now. And unless they come up with a new gimmick besides "we're the ones you can play handheld", they might be in trouble.
@fastfreeze018310 күн бұрын
Their gimmicks are motion controls, family friendly games that anyone can jump in and play, and couch multiplayer.
@Buddhakingpen10 күн бұрын
@@fastfreeze0183 Sure. Indie games are beginning to fill that niche pretty well though. And for way cheaper. I wouldnt exactly say their gimmick is motion controls though. They had the wii and ds line. The legacy of those consoles has just carried into modern discourse. But now touch screens are everywhere, playstation has had gyro for almost 20 years, and even on 3rd party controllers, gyro is almost standard at this point. And vr is carving itself out a space as well. What nintendo DOES have to itself imo, is top tier brand recognition, and gameplay mechanic innovation. Which is why i can see them going 3rd party after next console gen. Remember, nintendo is just now in their ps3/xbox360 era, which seems to be where the industry was at its healthiest. But they're gonna have to move the needle on power eventually, and then they'll be dealing with the struggles the industry is facing right now.
@fastfreeze018310 күн бұрын
@Buddhakingpen Playstation doesnt use the motion gimmicks as much. You can use it nintendo sports games, just dance, arms,zelda, and mario party games. Nintendo just makes games for the casual audience. Their audience are mainly kids and families who dont care about high performance and graphics

I can't help but absolutely disagree. I went from console to steam deck mainly because I was tired of the price increases and stupid ass decisions sonys been making recently. When I was primarily on console, I was there for the fidelity and simplicity of just putting a disc in, wait for the update, and just hit start. It's simple and yeah it can be far more simple then PC. Just this morning I was dealing with a bunch of shenanigans on my deck trying to get certain games to work but if it was console, it'd be easier. I enjoy the tinkering I do with the SD and love the portability of it as well.

@@Slowmojoeyo Does having a disk that only contains part of the game really considered "owning" the game? If you could just put the disk in and play the game then sure, you own it. But if it asks for an update then that means that your disk won't work without an internet connection. In other words, no, you don't own the game, just a physical license of the game.
