If I bought a ps5 game & I have a steam deck why can't I download it to my steam deck & bypass the ridiculous remote play option. Chiaki app doesn't work for some reason. No customer service from valve makes me so annoyed. I wish I knew this before buying my sd.

As a Mac user only, I was planning to build a PC for work instead, but after having a steam deck for over a month, that help to accelerate thr process and now I have a High end pc with a 4090. BTW I also have an XSX, XSS and Nintendo Switch. Sold my ps5 lol 😆

You are touching a good point, the charm of the pc gaming is full compatibility with any pc game ever created (plus: mods, being able to use any gadget, purchasing games from many stores, etc...), and in that sense steam deck is a pc, sure some games have issues but is being figured out. Steam deck is a pc even if it delivers a "console experience" because it is an open system. That is why I am exited for people adopting the steam deck or maybe in the future a "steam console"

Steam tried the console market years back with a Console-inspired(PC internals, shaped closer to a console) called the Steam Machine if i remember correctly... But it never really took off, and they eventually scraped the idea. With Steam Deck's popularity... it might be worth giving the console idea a shot again now that all eyes are on Valve/Steam.

The issue was a lack of market for a living room PC that would be competing with the console market, coupled with the fact that Steam/valve isn't really a household name(to non-pc gamers) and the lack of proper advertising on the unit.

On the PS5 sales, it's not surprising. They are becoming more and more common to just run across, in my area at least. My Best Buy had enough to make a damn display yesterday, and I've seen them there a few times, just sitting there, being ignored by customers like it was a normal sight.

My number one pick for improving the steam deck when it comes to developers is for them to offer smaller builds specifically targeted at the lower resolution and smaller storage of the deck. I'm never going to use those 4k textures on my deck, so why have those extra 20gigs taking up precious space?

I don't think the current attitude towards pc ports is about pleasing regulators. I think it's mostly just a matter of the profit gained from selling the ports. Pleasing regulators is just a happy side effect. Microsoft has shown through its behavior they're more interested in having the best game library than the best hardware and selling that library without selling the hardware is just good business. Ports are probably also easier than ever before because console hardware has become more and more like pc hardware. And they've probably just realized that most pc gamers wouldn't have bought a console because if the exclusives, but may buy the games if they're available on their pc. And if you look at how many big publishers have gotten back to steam in the past few years, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve has been offering the big publishers better terms lately. This may even be related to the pressure Epic Games creates for Valve.

MS owns Windows, its a weak anti-regulation argument. Sony knows there is a PC owning audience that will buy a PS5 for exclusives…. but it is limited. Thats why they seem to be going for the timed exclusive, which also appears suspect to regulators.

For the longest time there's been the odd rumour that Valve would start offering streaming PCs, I never really saw the value in them doing this. But integrating Ge-force now, not just into Steam Deck, into Steam itself exactly like you showed, would be awesome. Steam gets a value add especially for customers on lower end hardware, Ge-force Now gets easier integration with games and a place on the worlds biggest PC Game store, and publishers maybe feel more of an incentive to put their games on the service. The ones who are holding out on Nvidia are off their rockers. I know they're arguing that it's similar to a Lan Cafe license or something, but frankly, if I'm playing a game I bought, on my steam account, on a cloud computer I'm renting, the publisher has already had their part of that transaction, they're not entitled to any of my Ge-force now subscription. It's just pure greed.

I think Valve's warning was also related to the grey-market importers for Australia, which doesn't have the Steam Deck. Kogan (and its subsidiary Dick Smith) have recently been selling Steam Decks (at great markup) to Australians, without mentioning that they're grey-market devices. These devices are new, boxed, and look as though they come from Valve. Kogan is a legit, well-known outfit. But they're selling these Steam Decks unoffically. PROBLEM: the warranty, repair, RMA situation on these devices is *very* hazardous. It's no good having a legislated statutory warranty of (at least) 12 months if you can't actually get your Deck repaired or replaced. Let's say you get dead pixels, or your joysticks don't work, or the thing bricks. Do you send it back to Kogan? Do they have a repairer network? Do they send it back to Valve for repair? Will Valve honour the repair under warranty, given that Kogan is an unofficial, unlicensed vendor? How many months will that take? Valve is trying to cut down on all this. But the core problem remains: the Steam Deck is not available in most of the world. So it's somewhat galling for Valve to be warning about importing Steam Decks unofficially, despite, 18 months after the first pre-orders, still giving no availability news for the rest of the world. Complicating matters is Valve's relationship to Australia. They lost a big court case in Australia, which forced Valve to offer refunds for games. Gabe might be holding a grudge, who knows?

Valve has officially sold there hardware through EB Games before. Im unsure if that was before the lawsuit as they no longer deal with them or at least restock them. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve steer clear from Australia after realising just how customer sided we are here. Besides the surfeit of games currently available to sate our appetites, another advantage of PC is that by the time some of these exclusives actually make it to PC, many of the day one bugs have been patched, _AND_ the games are often discounted shortly after released on PC.

I've been playing geforce now on an s21fe phone using Samsung dex. Usually works pretty good despite no 4k on Android but I can get 120fps. I hope Nvidia can give official support for dex mode as well as steam deck.

I think that Nvidia should focus on making a Linux native application so you can just download it no matter what Linux you're using and then they can have a version in the discover store to download and you just add it to Steam and voila.

Just checking or previewing the UI profiles before actually apply them (so without losing your current profile) is something that the old UI did since its inception. For all its sins, the old input UI was "perfected" over years and it was in a good place, and usable. And that's what annoys me with the new UI, is like Valve is ignoring every lessons learned from the old UI, and is starting all over again, by slowly putting in place features that the old UI already had. I wish somehow that the old UI will still be left in place as a "legacy" option for desktop/TV users. I don't doubt that the new UI will be improved, but I'm not sure how it will end up. The problem as I see it is that new UI is OK for the Deck, but terrible for the big (TV) screen. You see, Valve made the old UI for the actual big screen TV, it was their thing back then: "Steam on the couch" and all that, and its design show that. It was made to be easy to use and accessible for a person in front of a big screen, while the new UI is made for someone having a small screen on his lap/hands, and again its design shows that. They had to compromise on features, and cram everything left in those labyrinths of menus and submenus to save screen real-estate. I think this approach kinda makes sense for the Deck, but I feel is more like a "not great, not terrible" interface overall.

I don't understand people expecting a FFXVI PC release anytime soon. All the games mentioned in this video that came from PS5 to PC, took 4+ years before they came over. Even FF7 Remake took 2 year before it came to PC. Also besides FF15... All Final Fantasy games since 7 have been Playstation exclusives on release. I'm not sure why this is shocking 20+ years later.

Latency would be the main problem with Cloud Gaming. Input lag and bad framerates would be very noticeable. RIP GeForce NOW. Having the game installed locally works well. Having the game installed on the device that you are using will work best. You just can't really go faster than light or as fast as you think your internet connection really is.

I think people's problems with nvidia aren't related to geforce now, but the company itself. They're pretty anticonsumer and want to completely control journalism around their products and services; and if they really had it their way they'd push out all the 3rd party board manufacturers. The reason game devs don't like streaming games probably has to do with profits. If they make more money selling the game than streaming (say they make x million selling the game but only get paid x-100 million to for the rights to stream it) they wouldn't like it. So if the streaming service is as good as you say the problem is Nvidia wants to pay peanuts to license the games.

But with GeForce Now it's different. NVIDIA isn't selling the games. They are renting hardware for me to play games that I purchased on Steam or Epic Games Store. The publishers are getting the money from me. NVIDIA has nothing to do with this other than renting hardware. It's like if you owned a copy of Star Wars, but Disney said you can't watch that Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray player you don't own.

I don't follow Playstation exclusives generally, but I thought Horizon Zero Dawn took 3+ years to come out on PC, which mostly released to PC to be an ad for Horizon Forbidden West on the PlayStation, which doesn't have a timetable to PC that I'm aware of. That's not exactly sharing your IP.

How I see valve keeping the hardware up to date is by utilizing cloud computing. Either GFN or boosteroid. It would be in their best interest to start forcing publishers to put the game available via cloud services.

So I've been using shadow PCs upgraded new tier and use a retractable power a moga controller with my note 20 ultra with 120hz. Steam on shadow with big picture running steam deck overlay (big picture mode) is an amazing experience and shadow runs like a dream. But as flawlessly it runs, I am seriously excited for a steam deck PC experience for native gameplay. I started watching your channel and man...the envy I have for steam deck owners is overwhelming lol. I've been homeless for quite some time but finally after 5 years landed a place to call home recently and since been following your channel religiously. You are very in depth about the steam deck and every day I check for sales to build up a library so when I eventually get the money for a deck, I can stop worrying about monthly charges and be a part of the steam deck community as I'm a huge steam fan. I used to own all 3 consoles last gen, then bought a PC when I was married. After my son passed and the divorce left me in my car, Xbox game pass cloud, stadia, GeForce now playing games on public wifi behind a gas station at 5am gaming cause it was so hard to sleep in my car..saved me honestly and really made me appreciate handheld gaming more. My only input with the new input os the ui, really. Previously you got the picture of the controller with its inputs, layers and input sets all at a glance while now you have to go through nested menus and go down through lists. Also previously you could save presets locally just for you while now saving them obligatory makes them public

What's happening is that developers are thinking of game genres primed for the Steam Deck. Games like Vampire Survivors are the tip of the iceberg. There has to be a whole category that can (for better or worse) flood the Steam store and be advertised to Steam Deck users.

FFXV sold best on PC, second best on Xbox, and third-best on PS4. I guarantee you they planned to release on XVI on PC and likely Xbox, but Sony gonna Sony and make them an offer they can't refuse (usually 50% of total development cost plus matching marketing) at the last minute to restrict the game to PS consoles. Now the devs are playing dumb because, as always, the deal was finalized last minute and likely came AFTER the reveal videos that stated PC release. Sony, Destroyer of Franchises.

Many news stories about PS4 version far outselling the Xbox one version. VGChartz has it 5 million to 1 million in favor of PS4. The PS4 install base was nearly double that of Xbox one. It’s well known that jrpgs sell better on PlayStation than Xbox. My spending on Steam games has gone up since getting a Steam Deck. I have been purchasing casual & 'short play' games specifically for the Deck (Vampire Survivors, PowerWash Simulator, Brotato, Mighty Goose, Project Lazarus, etc.). More so, I target games that are verified on the Steam Deck. If Valve can push developers to ensure their games work seamlessly on the Deck - better for all of us (but not my wallet... ;).

I've been saying for years that it's always better to buy the PC version of a game unless there's some obvious reason not to. I don't abide by that rule however and have bought certain games on the switch which I definitely could have bought on Steam. There's actually a couple of games I played on the Wii U that had some integration with the gamepad that I liked that I would definitely miss playing on the Switch or Steam. Out of curiosity are there any games that actually take advantage of having multiple monitors?

What we are also missing right now is the possibility of remote play from deck to PC on anything (including non-steam games)... or basically just start a full-desktop remote play section into your deck

The thing I love about the PCs it’s pretty much freedom, Xbox and PlayStation there’s stipulations you got a buy a online pass so you can play online you can get banned and there’s no modifications

That is pretty cool. I noticed that the controller gets automatically set up efficiently compared to like when I first got the steam deck and I was like why isn’t this working and then I will have to go onto the keyboard commands and then make the keyboard command work on the controller, which wasn’t very hard and complicated, but I was annoyed until I figured it out

Steam uses a metric for idle or active to determine if you are currently online...so if it's running but not in use, it shouldn't count as "online"
