Watch as I finally spray the Steampunk guitar body and neck with water-based metallic paint and treat it to some airbrushed distressed weathering effects.

What a great finish. I especially like the hammered copper, but, really, the whole thing is exquisite. As you were aging and weatheting it, I was groaning inside, but clearly you knew where you wanted to take it, and my groans were premature. I couldn't pull this off because I'd never have the confidence required to "wreck" something I just labored to make beautiful. Am I the only one who used to scream in dismay as Bob Ross would put that big old tree in the foreground of whatever beautiful landscape he'd just painted, only to admit it actually belonged there when he was done? Yeah. This is like that. Sorry for shouting. 😀

Awesome work! I've been using the Brite Tone Gloss and the Flip'N Awesome 3 in 1 paint to get that Fender Tahitian Coral color. Next guitar will be a Gold Top using their metallic paint. Glad I watched this video, it gives me more confidence in the process.

For the last 4 years I was touring the world on a steampunk theme show and got so many steampunk guitars presented to me. They were nice but unplayable and heavy. This one is not only nice but will definitely be a player. Very cool sir! Well planned

Thanks, Chris, for another very informative video. Using the 220 grit really made the finish. I learned from modellers that oil paints cut with thinner actually work best for washes - they take longer to dry than the acrylics but offer a lot more control.
@HighlineGuitars

I actually do quite a bit of model making as well. Armor, cars and scratch built 1:16 scale figures. I used to use oil washes, but have switched to water based for time.

@@HighlineGuitars Well I wouldn't expect you to chip a hole in your finish and use a depth gauge 🙂But since you seem to use considerably more coats than many other luthiers and finishers on KZbin I'm just interested as to whether it's because you've developed a preference for thinner coats, or a thicker more protective finish?
@HighlineGuitars
