i forget the teams at this point but i recall a similar game. an spl team was about to be eliminated (like we're talking they're 0-2, few to no kills in those games) and decided to pick all assassins in the last game to throw. they lost of course and i remember it drew it's own controversy with people saying it was a poor show of sportsmanship.

Well, I think hirez handled it wrong at the first place. If the player disconnected, not for ragequit reasons, the game should be repeated, if it was hardware malfunction is even more reason to do so. How would you expect someone to take serious an event that doesn't care about technical issues and promotes unfair victories like this?

I see where you're coming from but the DC happened a decent bit after the game started and there's no way to easily identify a legitimate disconnect with someone just unplugging their internet to try and reset a match cause their early game didn't go well or they lost the draft phase and wanted a re-do. Of course this is less of an and issue now as most pros play matches at the hirez studios in Georgia.

@@Inters3ct to be honest, as I was typing it, my first thought was that people could easily abuse this, (expecting the worse from ever) but losing a professional match because of technical issues seems amateur work. Also, I have been burned by a three day ban, because one time smite kicked me out of a game to the main menu of the game. I was a salt factory...

I tend to think the normal 10 minutes (5 if there's a DC) is fine, but with one major exception. I wish the game would detect if there was a DC right after a surrender vote didn't pass and would allow another vote to immediately be started (what might still be winnable 5v5 when down some gold and objectives tends to become totally unrealistic when someone ragequits after the surrender vote fails).

If there was a DC, why was the game not remade? Was it just too far in at that point? Edit for anyone asking the same questions, Omega seems to have DC'd pretty early, as the surrender was at 8 minutes.

@@DekuSkrub2129 It's a set rule to avoid someone taking advantage of the system. Someone could 'DC' from a game they were losing just to retry. This way there's zero chance for abuse. If it was a fault on Hirez's end, that'd be another story.

The option was never "given" to them. All SPL games are ran as custom matches. Every custom match you can surrender before 10, because, after all, if you're just playing with your friends, why would you have to wait until 10 to surrender? It's not specific to the SPL, it's specific to SMITE's mechanics.
