Hey everyone! Want to thank everyone for the support on this video. But I wanted to address a few mistakes that have been pointed out. I’m very sorry for these mistakes and they are on me: 1) Katsuya Eguchi was actually born on April 7th, 1965, not May 15th, 1965. Feel kinda stupid for making this mistake. 2)Lyle was introduced in Wild World, not City Folk. I apologize for these mistakes, and I will work on preventing these from happening in the future. Thank you.

I am an only child mostly raised by my grandparents, and I would get really lonely too. I was bullied in school, would stand up for myself and beat up the bullies, get in trouble constantly for sticking up for myself, and didn't have many friends because of that and the fact that I was different than most other kids. I recognize now that as a child and teen that I was depressed at the time and very lonely. I attribute Animal Crossing as being the coping skill at the time that gave me something to look forward to every day. Without it, I couldn't imagine how lonely or depressed I would have been every day. I'm so grateful for its existence and for my mom buying the GameCube game for me the year it came out in the US for Christmas. Probably the best gift I ever got.

@@lucyhoneyisabel8531 Yeah. I loved being able to talk to random online people in ACNH with that nice feeling of a good escape. Nowadays, people on NL are either always going off about how great NH is and how you should play it or they're just weird in general. I really miss the comfortable hours of the night where I would get to talk about balloons and golden stags with complete strangers, and feel like I made new friends. Maybe we would add FC's and hang out a bit, or maybe we'd just say 'see you next time' and part ways. If we did see each other again on another island, we'd know each other and welcome the others back with open arms. Those times were the greatest. Maybe it's because I'm feeling way too much nostalgia right now, but I know ANCL made a huge impact on my life.

I’m so glad I grew up with this series. A few days after my grandfather passed, (a very patriotic veteran that had an eagle/snake tattoo) Apollo, the bald eagle born on July 4th, showed up at my campsite. Also, all of my villagers call me Pumpkin, and the last thing my grandmother said to me before she died was “hi pumpkin”. I know they’re just coincidences, but it just makes NH that much more special to me. I also remember having a lot of beef with my Population Growing! villagers because of how mean they were in the GC version lmao. Incredible series.

I had a friend die in 2020 named bianca. We bonded over a lot of things including the pop star Kim Petras. I was playing around the same time and had a villager ask to live out the day before/of. A few days after, I was playing honestly to cope and the villager I got was bianca... one of the preppy types obsessed with being a pop star. There was even dialogue that really felt like it was for me. She means so much to me and it has really helped me feel connected to her

6:27 This is exactly why I don't like New Horizons as much as the previous games, all of your villagers feel like robots, not your friends, and it removed beloved characters and features, it just doesn't feel like an animal crossing game, it focuses more on the terraforming and outdoor furniture placing than the other aspects of an Animal Crossing game, it feels more like an asthtetic sim, decorating should be part of the enjoyment not the focus. Honestly it's kinda like Happy Home Designer but instead of decorating other villagers' houses it's the entire town and it's a mainline game, with lacking dialogue, features, and even some of the charm. I also don't like the crafting at all, it's long and tedious, I always just buy my tools from the Nook instead of crafting them when they break, crafting furniture is cool and all, but I only ever craft some seasonal and special furniture items and buy the rest from Tom Nook and Timmy and Tommy.

This video made me tear up so many times. So well done. Having a crappy childhood animal crossing was my best friend, my escape. I could make friends with villagers even when I was lonely irl, and feel free and at peace even when life was hectic. Wild world and city folk got me through my childhood and new leaf come out at a really pivotal time in my adolescence and got me through that as well. Being an adult, struggling with adulthood and really digging into my childhood trauma, when new horizons was announced it felt like an old friend showing up to see if I was doing alright. I still get tearful when I rewatch the initial trailer for new horizons because I felt so proud of and nostalgic with this franchise. I know a lot of the content about new horizons is negative focused now and discusses all that it lacks, and I agree it needs some more additions, it’s still the game I curl up in bed with every night, like little me did with wild world, and it makes me feel like everything is going to be alright. Funny how a game can do that for you.

I want to apologize for how long this comment is, but since a lot of people like to share their experiences with the Animal Crossing games I thought that I wanted to share my experience as well when I’m still a fairly new player. I really wish I could have become a fan of the games LONG before I actually did, I only started playing the games earlier this year thanks to a former coworker who I bonded with through Nintendo games. He asked if I ever played Animal Crossing and I told him no. He told me about The new game that was releasing a few weeks later on and he told me that I should check out the games because he thought that I would like them. I did tell him that I was looking for a new Nintendo series to look into and told him that I would give it a shot. I remembered that I have Animal Crossing City Folk for my Wii at home so after work I went downstairs, turned on my Nintendo Wii, I found the Animal Crossing City Folk disk and plopped it into the console. At first, I had no idea what I was doing, but after looking at tutorials for new players I finally got the hang of it, and let me tell you, After playing City Folk for a while I knew that I HAD to get the new game. So one day, a week before the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons, my dad took me to GameStop to look for a new charging cable for my Switch, the two people at the front desk asked me if I wanted to preorder New Horizons and I did. So I preordered the game and the week that followed felt like an eternity. I was SO excited to play New Horizons. Finally, on March 20th 2020, the day had finally arrived, my mom and I left early before my shift started (I didn’t have a drivers license and I still don’t so she had to take me to work), we stopped at GameStop, picked up my game and got a SUPER COOL poster that came with the copy that you can only get on release day, I couldn’t play the game yet because I had to go to work. But the second I got home, I grabbed my game, put it into my switch, and it became one of the best games I’ve ever played. I’ve been playing New Horizons every single day since I first got it on the day it first released. I since got laid off from my job due to the whole COVID-19 thing and can’t find a job. But this game helps me get through a lot of stress. Throughout time I’ve also started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf which I haven’t been playing much lately and have been meaning to do so. But since I first started playing it I’ve started collecting merchandise like plushies, amiibo figures, I have a wireless Switch controller with the Nooklings on it. I can happily say that I’m grateful to The developers at Nintendo for creating something that I’ve become so attached to. I have never played a video game as much as I’ve played Animal Crossing and I’ve never been more dedicated to playing another game.

I got new leaf back in 2014 and it became my favorite game of all time. I played it everyday for years. I would watch KZbin videos of other peoples towns, ones with horror storylines and hacked ones were my always my favorite. I would also look up the older games and other older content for it and I’ve probably watched every video on the topic. I played NL and HHD well into 2018. I remember getting back into it every now and then but had no community to look to for new content, at least that wasn’t making fun of it. Until one fateful direct in 2019 when my kinda unknown game become all anyone was talking about again. I bought a switch the week before it released and have been playing NH almost everyday since release. And with the new 2.0 update coming soon it feels like I’m getting a whole nother game added onto it. Watching this documentary again really fuels my excitement for my favorite game series and makes me appreciate all the work gone into it.

I've been playing every Animal Crossing game since Wild World and I've only known some of it's history. I enjoyed this so much, wish you weren't as underrated as you are because this video (I'm sure) took many days to make. Thank you again!!!

Man this must be one hell of a research. Thanks for the effort. Almost cried at the end. Iam with this franchise since 2004. Cannot agree with you more. ANimal Crossing is its own micro cosmos for me. A world where you can escape and shape it!

Amazing video! I happened to notice this but Katsuya Eguchi happened to be born on April 7, not May 15. Just a small thing I noticed and wanted to say, this is a great video, I love the content uploaded here and hope there is more to come! Thank you for posting this video :D

Thank you for the compliments! And you are correct, I feel stupid that I made that mistake. But thank you for pointing it out. I will find a way to correct it the best I can.

Wow, this video deserves more views than 13,000. For the effort it takes to record an hour and 20 minutes of voiceover, AND having to pronounce names you are hardly familiar with, AND having to find relevant footage, I'm shocked with the quality of this video. Even if you did pronounce "Totaka" as "Toketa"

Absolutely loved watching this video!! I am astounded by the amazing level of research and I learnt so many things I’d never heard before, even when I thought I knew everything there was to know about animal crossing. Another great video, thanks!

New Horizons is competing against Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for most sold Switch game, so that means it's becoming one of the most popular Nintendo franchises.

Hey there... I'm living a rough time in my life and returned to my previous town on the 3ds... Having (digital) friends who supports you and are happy for you seems like a dream, sometimes and they are somewhat helping. This series is special in so many ways and you gave it justice with this documentary: especcially the songs selections in the background, my god. I was compelled to follow your narration. Thank you.

I bought the ds, 3ds and the switch because of or in anticipation of animal crossing. This game means a lot to me! Also, this documentary explains a lot of decisions nintendo made regarding acnh, at least to me.

Completely teared up by the end. This game has been so close to my heart. Wild World was my first exposure to this game, even though it was a friends game and I could only play it twice week for the span of a few hours. The game experience never left me. I lost track of all the games that came after it, but after New Horizons came out I absolutely knew I had to get it. Animal Crossing will always be one of my favorite games of all time. ❤

A lot of the things you mention are new to games like City Folk were in previous games, like Blanca was in all AF+, AC, AFe+, and WW. She would appear in Population Growing when you traveled to a friends town via two memory cards plugged into the same console. 29:30

Hi there, just watched this with my wife and I just wanted to say that we both thoroughly enjoyed it and also learnt something. I’d heard about the series before but never really became addicted to it til NH. I briefly dabbled in AC on the DS but it didn’t capture my attention like NH does. And I managed to get my wife her own Switch and get her hooked on NH 2 weeks after launch! Thanks again 😀👍

I remember the teaser for it on the gamecube disc that were trailers for AC, Mario Party 4 and Metroid Prime. Immediately could tell it was special and worth keeping an eye on because the artstyle and color palette. The rest is history. Started in my 1st town with my brother and sister named after our hometown. Now I'm playing New Horizons with my wife on the Island of FyreFest. Its the only game that is stress free and makes me genuinely happy everytime I play it.

New Leaf and New Horizons are both my favorite Animal Crossing games. I would always look forward to playing New Leaf after a long day at school when I was a lot younger, I believe it was the first animal crossing game I played and I loved it. New Horizons came out around the time I was extremely depressed and definitely made me a lot happier. It was an escape and I'm very grateful for it since that game was also something I looked forward to. Interesting to see how far the game has come.

I never grew up with Nintendo as I'm from india and it's not sold here. But I did pay extra for a switch and got the game. I got it on Oct 25 2020. It was worth it. Yes I paid $400 for an Australian console but it's okay. Because this game helps me with my anxiety. I love it. But they should make this official in india. I made a lot of friends on the Nintendo India reddit. There are many of us who legally buy Nintendo games. I think if I had this game as a kid I would have psychologically recovered faster from losing a family member close to me. But I'm happy I have it now.
