In this video I share the story of how I learnt Japanese language. I have been studying Japanese since 2017 and this is a question I am often asked so I decided to make a video about it!
Japanese is one of the hardest languages for a native English speaker to learn but with dedication and practice, it's possible to learn Japanese. There is no best way to study or learn Japanese as everyone is different and has different goals but in this video, I share the 3 ways which worked for me.
My goal was never to work in a Japanese company, become a language translator or read Japanese newspapers. My goal has always been to be able to have conversations with Japanese people.
I am not fluent in Japanese and I have not passed all the JLPT tests, but through my years of Japanese language learning, I have reached a level I am happy with and I could easily survive in Japan for an extended period of time only speaking in Japanese!

ABOUT ME:
I'm Ruth and I just bought a campervan to travel my home country of Scotland. I moved overseas after university in 2011 and I’ve hardly seen anything or been anywhere in my home country Scotland and I’ve never even visited places like the Scottish Highlands, the Isle of Skye or the NC500.
I am a huge fan of campervan travel and alternative living and while living in Japan, my partner and I converted both a van and a bus into campervans. We explored Japan extensively, sharing our adventures on our two Japanese language KZbin channels. I've spent over 600 nights living in vans, it’s my favourite way to travel due to the incredible freedom, adventure and the affordability.
My campervan is a 2001 Toyota Hiace high roof van. It was originally used by the Royal Mail and then purchased by the previous owner and self-converted into a DIY campervan. Although the van is already converted, in order for it to be an off-grid living van, it requires some campervan DIY, especially when it comes to electrics and plumbing.
On this channel, I’ll be sharing more about this van, any DIY I do, and most importantly sharing my road trip adventures as I finally get to travel my beautiful home country of…. SCOTLAND!
