In a perfect world i wholeheartedly agree with this approach, but fear that on its own, too much forest will be lost. I think REDD+ is part of the mix of solution and is already reducing forest destruction. Great video. John

urgent! REDD++ (doubleplus), SecondPlus; Reducing emission at source led by the wisdom of indegenous on how they interact with mother earth.

Although I appreciate the clarity and the important focus on the people who live in the forest, I think this misses the bigger picture. To resist the intense market pressures identified in the video, and to generate political support for conservation, we need alternative income soures and incentives for conservation at the level of national policy and local decisions. If REDD+ funding is truly being lost to middlemen - and I have not seen this in the research - then the program should be fixed, not abandoned. What is the alternative - to recycle our paper goods? We need powerful tools for change, and it seems to me that REDD+ is one of them.

I agree that redd is a stupid idea, but not all forest communities are stewards of their environment. If they can make a lot of money through logging, they will make a lot of money through logging.

Not a serious response; people in the north will not change their lifestyle. Indigenous peoples are absolutely in the right but will not have the means to challenge government's power. Funny how the same video will say government should protect one group's rights in one place and deny them in another. Think about it and you will understand.

Certainly lots of people depend on forests. But this documentary does not take into account that local people also financially depend on these forests. I know people who cut down parts of their forest for education of their children. So just giving local people the right to use these forests is not a solution! Sustainable use does not come exclusively with property. Please keep in mind that it is not that simple!
