The crazy thing about JCP/NWA/WCW only appealed to southern rasslin fans for a very long time. Even when it became WCW. But at the time Clash of the Champions, JCP/WCW was wrestling and WWF/E was sports entertainment. Which is why the show quality of COC and Wrestlemania 4 different significantly. But Flair vs Sting 1 was the match that not only put NWA/JCP/WCW on the map but it put Sting on the map as being the man in WCW. WWE had Hulk Hogan and WCW had Sting. Sting/Flair was WCW golden goose feud from 1988 to 2001. WCW was born from this match and the match also closed its doors. Sting and Flair went down with the ship. If you’ve seen one of their matches you’ve seen em all but something about their chemistry together was magic. They meshed together so well. It was like they were made for each other so to speak. Ted's biggest mistake was not buying the NWA and bypassing Crockett. Many people think that JCP was the NWA but in fact is was not. Crockett was just the largest promotion under the umbrella. Had Ted Turner bypassed Crockett and bought the NWA name and titles the Wrestlers would have followed. Because there was no where else to go. But letting the NWA operate independently from the newly formed WCW was the biggest mistake of the entire Crockett Tuner deal. That was too dirty by Vince McMannequin. Living in Montreal, we only had WWF to watch, I had no idea there was a free Mega event on free tv in the US. Having the time announced every 5 minutes and judges there "just in case" it goes to time limit... might as well just put up a banner proclaiming that this would match would go to the time limit. Yeah Black Saturday was Vince's way to force Crockett to pay him $1 million dollars ransom, which is what he used to finance Wrestlemania. I wonder if the ratings on those Saturdays were any difference from when Crockett had the slot. Oh, he also tried to ruin Starrcade 83 by trying to make Harley Race sign with him before the match could take place. Race met with Vince the week prior and told him NO! He would not be coming to WWF until after that because Harley gave NWA his word he would be there, Vince always hated the NWA which was why he pulled WWF from the alliance because he wanted to rule the world with his way.

I would love it if you made more bios on 80s NWA.

One cannot appreciate the levity of pro wrestling of these two specifically in those days unless you were there or at home watching as it was happening. It was a special time in our beloved pastime. Thank you Ryan for such nostalgic reflection 🙏🏻awesome production!
