There are rumors out there that say that Austin prevented anything from materializing as far as a push for Owen due to what happened during their Summerslam match. Basically, backstage politics and HBK's ego prevented Owen winning the title and eventually led to him being put back into the Blue Blazer gimmick. The rest, as they say, is history! I fully believe Owen should have won the title on Raw and then dropped it back to HBK at the Rumble due to interference from Triple H. Still could have had Stone Cold v HBK at Mania but it would have given the company a chance to see how Owen handled being top dog, even if it was for a short while. Then Owen should have beaten Triple H at Mania, then turned heel on the following Raw by attacking the newly crowned champion Stone Cold! Owen not being pushed to main event level and being lumbered with a gimmick that eventually led to his death is the biggest travesty in WWF/WWE history!!!

@Thor-Orion4 жыл бұрын
I always bring that up. Barely a year into the deal. He kept Bret from being the third man with that contract and ran Bret like a mule to build Stone Cold and Shawn up during that year (people don’t talk about Shawn’s first title run not being so great, but it wasn’t) and helping reestablish Undertaker as a world title guy. Then less than a month after the belt goes on Bret Vince tells him he can’t honor the contract. Vince was planning it for awhile, and i believe Bret somewhere inside saw it coming, if the Montreal Incident isn’t a flat out work it was a worked shoot, with maybe neither party acknowledging that they had both seen it coming. Something about the timing of Wrestling With Shadows makes me think Bret knew not to trust Vince once that long term contract was signed.

Great vid, covering all the points that showed he was just repeatedly let down. I actually created a thread on WFigs forum with this very topic in mind but more so that DX making fun of him caused him not to be taken seriously, along with management wasting him quickly after he came back. The potential to make him a top tier player was immense. Such a shame

I can’t help but feel like that Owen would still be alive today if he had of been able to go to WCW.

Thank you for doing this video. I always thought the "Black Heart" character was abandoned too quickly, as I had been a fan of Owen Hart and liked that he seemed to be getting a main event push. The story made sense and had that touch of reality that enhanced the story. I thought they would push the Owen-Michaels feud further and I was looking forward to it. As to your explanation as to their motive and keeping the Michaels-Austin feud hot for Wrestlemania; this was often the problem with WWF booking. They were so focused on pay per views and it gave their story arcs a sense of being contrived and also predictable. When a hot angle grew organically, they wouldn't go with it, if it got in the way of their plans to have the pay per view main events that drew the most money. Perhaps it did earn them money, but it often weakened the product in the months leading up to Wrestlemania because it got so predictable and dull. I personally would rather have seen an Owen-Michaels feud and Wrestlemania main event, even if it meant Austin would be involved with other angles.

I remember looking forward to watching raw every week for a short period just to see what the black hart was going to do next. Everytime Shawn was in the ring there was a buzz around the arena, fans excited to see Owen run in and attack. But sadly Shawn and HHH had far too push backstage power and Owen was never going to get that strong run. Such a shame. RIP Owen
@deelove75184 жыл бұрын
He was never going to be in the main event picture due to him injuring the golden goose. Austin didn't want to work with him and it was his era. Unfortunately Owen's career was in a downward spiral after Summer Slam 97.

@@jeffboyd8139 oh I don't blame Austin at all. I still don't understand why they chose that spot. They were on their way to having arguably the match of the year up until that botched piledriver.

I wish Bret would have paid Owen to sit out for the remainder of his contract with the WWF. Owen was making $250,000 per year which Vince increased to $400,000 right after Montreal. Bret was making $2,500,000 per year in WCW. He could’ve easily given Owen $400,000 per year to stay home after Montreal. Owen should have never had to wrestle for Vince after Montreal. I hated how Vince, HBK, and HHH buried him, Bret and Jim Neidhart after Montreal. Only Bulldog got away without being buried. I’m glad HBK got injured at Royal Rumble 1998 and had to watch from home as Austin and Rock took the company to the stratosphere. Karma got HBK and he absolutely deserved it.

Owen being in the Nation was The Rock's idea. He said in the past that Owen & Bret looked out for him when HBK & Triple H were giving him hell backstage

The Black Hart was perfect for Owen. An excellent transition away from his brothers shadow that had credibility and set him apart from the rest of the Hart foundation. Certainly better than The Rocket and undoubtedly better than that Blue Blazer nonsense.

I don't think a program between Stone Cold and Owen Hart would've taken place after Wrestlemania 14, even if they tried to give Owen a push at that time. Stone Cold still had heat with Owen after the Summerslam 1997 incident and says that Owen never apologized for that night. Let's not forget, personal heat is what caused Stone Cold to nix a feud with Jeff Jarrett around 1997/1998.

They really should have had Owen fight Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble in 1998 and the storyline behind that could have been Owen trying to get revenge for Bret for the Montreal screwjob. I definitely think Owen deserved another shot at the WWE title and him being the “Black Hart” would have been a great opportunity to put him in the title picture.

Totally agree. As good as the Casket Match was the rivalry between Taker and HBK should've ended in Hell In a Cell.

@DJDoubleCee. What I would’ve done was have Owen Hart win the WWF title at Royal Rumble 98 and he could’ve dropped it to Shawn at No Way Out Of Texas so then Shawn could drop it to Austin at Mania 14.
