After playing through the Demon Hunter story line, Illidan was not as "Mad" as he seemed by sending his Demon Hunters away during the events of the Burning Crusade. From what Illidan was instructing and referencing, he seemed to know that his reign was about to come to an end with the efforts of the "Heroes" that were invading the Black Temple, and he knew that the Legion would return in his absence. So, he sent his Demon Hunters to Mardum, along with a sect of the Ashtongue, Coilskar, and Shivarra to protect and preserve his forces. Those that survived would be stronger for it when they returned to Azeroth, and would best benefit the world with their power and abilities against the Burning Legion when they did return to take Azeroth. So, in reality, Illidan knew exactly what he was doing. ;)

You're theory sounds great. At the Blizzcon Q&A someome asked about Alleria and Turalyon and they replied said when they return in Legion it will "Change the way you look at the WoW" That answer makes so much sense if Alleria and Turalyon are there to help explain Illidan's story.

I so hope that theory of yours is true. I mean, what better way for Illidan to end up in the naaru's good graces? Find old friends and allies of Khadgar - another powerful ally of the naaru - and bring them back safely. And Kael'thas didn't exactly have Illidan's best interests at heart: _"Did you honestly believe I would trust the future to some blind, half-night elf mongrel? ---- _*_he was merely an instrument, a stepping stone to a much larger plan!"_* If anything, the theory sounds plausible. But it's never that easy though, is it?

great vid Nobbel, i remember Loramus from vanilla being the only demon hunter in the game then. He was on an island in bay of storms (Azshara zone) with his glavies. He had three elite felhounds guarding him: Raytaf, Shahiar, and Zaman.

It's interesting to see that some of them can't control their demonic essence potentially because they are weak and don't know the name of the demon beforehand. Ered'ruin & Annihilan are the demon of choice given the potential their essence yield and how "easily" they can be controlled but a Nathrezim essence would also be a very good choice given their peculiar set of powers. As for the bounding they should sacrifice a demon whose name is only known by the apprentice but it seems they prefer to keep it unknown to provide another challenge but the outcome isn't reflective of the apprentice's potential at all. From a Warlock point of view the process of becoming a Demon Hunter is still archaic and could improve further with the help of a relatively good demonologist and see the succes rate rise a lot and perfect the Spectral Sight ritual.

If I had to make a guess as to why Illidan kept his weapons while he was imprisoned I would go with: since the weapons are demonic in origin it might be possible that the weapons themselves became bound to him in some way, so when the Warden's tried to remove his weapons, they always came back to him no matter what, so since he didn't seem like he was going to escape they just didn't bother after a while. Oh and your theory about Illidan not ordering the attack, that seems possible because it wouldn't be the first time the Heros had been manipulated, after all, there was VanCleef.

I never had the opportunity to fully understand Illidan's story or the demon hunters as well, until recently. When I used to play wow it was either private servers or just the trial and I never played warcraft. Now I have a subscription, got my character leveled relatively high and have gone through some of the story of illidan and played warcraft. I gotta say, I though arthas was my favorite character after I learned his story, but I think my favorite character is illidan now. Especially after the cutscenes in legion. I am still working on my 1st demon hunter. And wow, it is just so fun. The combat feels so good it is so refreshing. Much more fun than my druid. And navigating the world is a breeze. Plus I never found myself struggling with bugs and boredom doing the burning crusade/legion quests. Whereas I have been in icecrown for like 2 months bored out of my mind and getting pissed at the lack of care given to the old story line. I suppose the lich king is only good in cut scenes or warcraft 3 these days.

FYI: Not sure if anybody else remembers but Sindweller is actually one of the demon hunter names from WC3. For those unfamiliar with WC3 then, when playing as the Night Elves in a 1v1/2v2 etc. (Similar to Starcraft) and you summoned a Demon Hunter from the Altar of Elders then there was a chance that the name Sindweller would be selected from a variety of names programmed into the game which could be viewed in the game editor. Whether its a throwback to WC3 or it is a lead into explaining those that followed Illidan's example who knows.

So I watched your video all the way through, Nobbel - awesomely put together btw, man - and I loved your idea about trying to make Illidan a not-so-bad guy and trying to help Turalyon and Alleria and all that. But to be honest, I just don't see this making it ingame, as I'm not sure Blizzard is smart enough to find a way to get this shifting realities thing into the storyline. Also, we have no proof Illidan would even want to help Arator, whether or not he and his allies were opposed to the Burning Legion. Finally, as that little teaser trailer shows, it was the Legion's agent Gul'dan who woke him up, so we don't know which side Illidan is really on or if he is still working for himself. I'll tell you what I would like to see in the final raid, though - big fight scene where he steals some of Sargeras' power and grows super-huge, and the two demons are fighting each other kaiju-style while the players are running around looking like ants. That'd be awesome!

been warcraft fan for ages. and i loved evey part of lore beside pandaria. i cant get over pandaria fuck me. but illidari, demon hunters, illidan himself. I cant imagine anything better than that. Even now when 7.3 patch is out. Illidan is so god damn good character. He is like perfect example that those who take darker path are not always evil.. love the story man.
