Xavius, N'zoth and the Emerald Nightmare have corrupted the world tree Shaladrassil within Val'sharah. Several of our allies, Ursoc, Cenarius, Ysera and a whole bunch more have been corrupted, the nightmare is spreading and we need to put a stop to it. I hope you'll enjoy!

+Julian Smit Xavius is the classical vilain filled with ego and pride, he wants Malfurion to suffer, he kidnapped Tyrande and most people don't know it but it was he who pushed Illidan towards a darker path in WotA and Malfurion never forgot it. We would only kill or corrupt Malfurion in the end after he madehim suffer.

i was kind of hoping that after you beat Xavius, you there would be a next phase where you fight furion and cenarious as if they both fell to the nightmare only to realise you have been currupted. Eventually you break the nightmare under your own power and finally end Xavius

I personally find the Rift of Aln a rather terrifying place. I had goose bumps when I arrived. I was scared to move anywhere from the middle in fear of pulling anything. And stuff lurking out from the shadows and approaching into the light to me that is just creepy. I am sure if you put your mind to it you could probably pretend those beings of the Nightmare are what you're afraid of.

Exactly. I liked that they went with the more subtle approach in making the Rift. Instead of it being a place with lots of skulls, fire and with a typical haunted spooky look like Icecrown citadel for instance, it is a formless empty void of darkness with creatures lurking behind you in the shadows. It lets the mind do the work and creates psychological horror while showing as little as possible. It's much more fitting for a place thats supposed to be a living nightmare.

Best thing about the Nightmare are the references. The dragons, the druid of old that we lost, side stories... all of it so at the end, with Xavius dead, they are all whole once more in the peace of the emerald dream. Best way to finish off a raid, making it feel like we're actually doing something that effects the world. Unlike a lot of older random ones.

“Five keys to open our way. Five torches to light our path.” As far as I know, there are 5 world trees: Nordrassil, Shaladrassil, Vordrassil, Teldrassil and G’hanir. A burning giant tree can be interpreted as a “torch”. Maybe the burning of Teldrassil is indeed one more step towards the coming of the old god(s).

I wish they'd adress what role Val'sharah and its druids have had in the previous historical events. Did they aid the druids of Ashenvale during the Legion/Scourge invasion of Mount Hyjal? Did they help out Maiev or Malfurion when they chased Illidan across the Broken Isles in The Frozen Throne? And so forth. It just seems a bit jarring to have such a large part of Nigh Elf society pop out of nowhere on a different continent.

Wanted to do this one as a seperate comment. The end, fighting in the rift of Aln, was so cool! All shadowy and warped, seeing things just out of sight with that unnerving feel that something is watching you the entire time. And as you fight Xavius things only get worse as if that something is lashing out at you. And even when you win, you know that Xavius was just a puppet in it all...

My 2 Cent's on Il'gynoth quotes: - I think Odyn is the Lord of Ravens (it makes sense that he would use Titan artifacts since he is a Titan leader); - I think the female dying a third time is Helya (not Sylvanas); Helya died once when Odyn betrayed her and was turned into a Val'kyr; She died a second time when she was freed from Odyn's control and decided to leave the world of the living and create/occupy Helheim (note that we didn't kill her in the Maw of Souls dungeon); she will probably die a third time in an atempt to hinder Odyn from using the pillars (we might be the ones killing her with Odyn's help); after all she is a titan keeper...and she's the only one that might keep an eye on N'zoth's prison (they both are connected to the sea), noticing it weakens and that N'zoth might free himself if we use the pillars against the Legion...

As of Xavius' return, I believe he simply can't die as long as the Nightmare exists. It is quite the same thing than with the green dragonflight, the druids and the wild gods in the Emerald Dream. N'Zoth "connected" his spirit to the Emerald Nightmare, and since his body was destroyed in Stormrage, he's free to re-appear in the form of a Satyr. Since the Rift of Aln shows uncorrupted versions of everyone who fell, we can imagine the corpse we see is the "uncorrupted" version of Xavius, being cut off from the Nightmare and hence, truly dead thus time.

Boy, Malfurion is a chump. He gets captured by Xavius twice, does nothing to prevent the Legion invading, sleeps for thousands of years in which his role is to be a glorified gardener and can't even prevent the Emerald Dream from being invaded and corrupted which is HIS JOB. Meanwhile Illidan takes over Outland, builds forces to invade Legion worlds, blows up Nathreza (unconfirmed), gives the means to invade Legion worlds to the Horde and Alliance etc. and he does it in the 15-20 years since the Third War of which he spends around 10 dead. Yeah I wonder who's the better brother.

The world tree that the heart of corruption rooted is where all the satyrs are put to into a eternal slumber. Xavius bound to nightmare instead of the nether returns. Like a demon, the only way they die is killing him in the nightmare. Or perhaps his spirit returns to sargeras to be tormented for betrayal. N'zoth the weakest of the Old Gods will soon return. In the Story, he was brought low fast by the Keepers.

What the hell is with the alliance leaders and their sudden revenge stories? Malfurion going after Xavius, Jaina going after Thrall and Genn going after Sylvanas has been doing nothing to help the alliance and is destined to just cause more problems for everyone.

other than garrosh (who was over compensating because he was declared "not even an orc" for having red pox) and Gul'dan (with his ilk) the horde are just like, "we want to live." Genn has a good reason, death of his son. Malfurion HATES xavius, Xavius takes EVERYTHING from him. Took Tyrande during the war of the ancients, took his brother from him, aids in the creation of the nightmare which is like someone coming into your house and redecorating with EVERYTHING you hate. But multiply that by 10 at least. with malfurion its not so much revenge, but "i have to stop xavius because he is evil" Jaina...omg don't get me started with her. she blames the whole horde for the destruction of Theramore. I just read the Cycle of Hatred...she brought lots of racists and demanded that they work with the horde...then when the burning blade wanted to corrupt it, ALL they had to do was say, "hey...the orcs suck amirite?" bam...war....

I'm one of those few who get the xavius room design. we see much of the nightmares horror throughout the raid, and now we're here, at the source of the problem. the nightmare is just that, a nightmare. the problem isn't a bad dream, it's xavius. no more spoopy, no more terror, just us and xavius. idk, I feel like it fit lol.

One point I don't get about the Emerald Nightmare.. The Blade Xal'atath says the Nigthmare is the work of Yogg-Saron, yet it is corrupted inside by N'zoth.. Old Gods never worked together, so after we defeated Yogg-Saron in Ulduar did N'zoth take over the Nightmare? Also at the Xavius Boss battle some minions strongly resemble Sha creatures. Could it be that all God's had an influence in the Nightmare?

Hey Nobble love your stuff, could you make a video of the different world trees where they are/where and when/how they were created cause trying to put it together is kinda confusing. Also I'd like a clarification on the different elves. I had an understanding the the elves were once all in Suramar. Some left to pursue magic and founded Quel Thalas and later became the blood elves. I get confused how when the night elves split from the elves of Suramar and how they ended up in Darnassus.

I don't get the hate for the Rift of Aln room. It is supposed to be a representation of purgatory, and it does that very well. I understand it isn't very flashy or outwardly scary, but in my view that complete lack of anything, the nothingness, makes it scarier. That if we die during that fight, our souls are damned to live out this existence in this, void basically.

It's comforting to see all those fallen wild gods / druids in the dream after Xavius's end, but there's something that bothers me. If it's like demons, and you can only kill them inside the dream, since the Nightmare is a part of the dream, it means they should be dead for good. Maybe this time they can't reform and only their spirit lives in the dream.

An idea I had about Ny'alotha is that it's N'zoth's temple city or perhaps it's Nazjatar, capital city of the Naga. Maybe both, maybe Nazjatar was built over Ny'alotha in preparation for the one who saved the Naga.

Given how absolutely amazing sound design is the x-pac, there can be some off-putting sounds and sometimes even visuals that are nightmarish (i.e. when soaking dream corruption the massive amalgamations than come down and frantically claw at 1/3 of the room) that can set a mood form Xavius.
