Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of the Fake Razor Ramon and Diesel
When the WWE lost Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to WCW in 1996, their characters Razor Ramon and Diesel somehow managed to make a comeback later in the year.
Scott Hall had portrayed Razor Ramon during his initial tenure in the World Wrestling Federation. Kevin Nash had portrayed Diesel in the WWF. Both men had success in the company but both men also decided to jump over to WCW.
When Kevin Nash and Scott Hall made their WCW debut, it was implied that they were invaders, coming from the WWF to take over World Championship Wrestling. Scott Hall continued to "act" like Razor Ramon, and Nash, well, acted like Nash, which wasn't too far from the Diesel character anyway. Vince McMahon attempted to legally stop Hall and Nash from portraying the Razor Ramon and Diesel WWF characters while the men were in WCW.
Vince McMahon would go one step further when it was announced that Razor Ramon and Diesel would be returning to the WWF. In a classic bait and switch, wrestling fans thought that maybe Hall and Nash were returning to the WWF to resume their careers as Razor and Diesel. This wasn't the case. Rick Bognar came to the ring as Razor Ramon, and Glenn Jacobs followed soon as Diesel. Vince McMahon, trying to prove here that he created Diesel and Razor Ramon and that the characters belonged in the WWF, was happy to give these two incredibly over gimmicks to two other men. It all accomplished nothing.
In this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios, we take a look at Rick Bognar and Glenn Jacobs, and their time as The Fake Razor Ramon and The Fake Diesel. Topics covered include:
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash jumping to WCW
The legal papers, filed by Vince McMahon, to stop Hall and Nash portraying their WWF characters in WCW
Jim Ross and his involvement introducing the new Razor Ramon and Diesel
What Rick Bognar thought of his debut as Razor Ramon
WCW giving Nash and Hall new contracts when they heard about the return of Diesel and Razor Ramon on WWF TV
What Rick Bognar and Glenn Jacobs done after their time as the fake Razor Ramon and the fake Diesel
Much More!

Kind of funny that WCW got worked by the news of “Razor” and “Diesel” going back to WWE, that they dumped more money on Hall and Nash who were already under (large) contracts. No surprise they eventually went out of business with those type of strategic decisions 😂
@phballer99
@phballer99 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment but I'm just now discovering Wrestling Bios so bare with me. :) The reason that happened is because they hadn't actually signed their contracts yet. They were on deal memos, basically letters of intent to sign. However, they had a clause put in that they could back out during the deal memo stage if they so chose. So they actually could have been going back still at that point. Still, with how well the nWo was going, why the hell they thought it would happen is all on their stupidity lol.

There was a bit more to the story about WCW offering Nash & Hall more money, Kevin relayed it in an interview awhile ago. To get Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to return the WCW Execs offered them twice the money, half the road time, perks all over, the sun, the moon, and the stars, and all wrapped up in a nice open contract, if Kevin and Scott had any problems with WCW they were free to leave (the execs gambling that all the perks would keep them from doing so. Then one Monday some of the WCW office people were looking at Raw, keeping an eye on what the competition was doing, when they heard them announce that next week, live on Raw, the Return of "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel and Razor Ramon! Immediately all the people at WCW Headquarters went into panic mode, "Hall and Nash are jumping ship! This is a disaster! All our plans, the NWO is about to launch, we spent MONEY!! This'll be worse than Flair jumping with the title! We'll be ruined!". So the very next morning the execs called up Kevin and Scott and asked them to come to WCW Headquarters, they had a good lunch, a nice chat talking about everything BUT their supposed plans to return to the WWE, and then presented the two with brand new exclusive iron-clad contracts, complete with a $400,000 signing bonus each. Kevin and Scott looked them over, looked at each other, smiled, and signed on the dotted lines, then asked for the company leir to take them back home. Then the next Monday came, and on Raw Jim Ross came out and presented the NEW Diesel and Razor Ramon! You could've probably heard the WCW execs screaming from across the State! $800,000 spent to keep Kevin and Scott from doing something they had no intention of doing in the first place. As I understand it Kevin and Scott laughed their asses off once they heard about this, they had no idea why the execs were offering them more money before that, they hadn't talked to anyone in the WWE since they left and Vince didn't ask their permission to repackage the characters (nor did he need to).

Jim Cornette was the poor soul who was tasked with teaching Jacobs and Bognar how to portray "Diesel" and "Razor". He had been at Vince McMahon's house to write material for upcoming shows and Vince said nothing about it. When Jim came in to do the next television taping the following day, he was informed out of the blue that he would have to do this, because Vince apparently came up with that insane idea over night. Jim had already worked with Jacobs when he was "Unabomb" in Jim's Smoky Mountain Wrestling in 1995. Jim then had the production crew make him compilation tapes of Diesel and Razor matches to analyse their moves and on-camera behaviour in depth, so he could instruct and train the imitators. That's how the famous "the six moves of doom of Kevin Nash" joke originated, because Jim had to teach Bognar tons of stuff for his "Razor", but Jacobs only had to copy all of six moves "including the hair flip". Cornette thought he had ended up working in an insane asylum.

In order for this to work is if Vince would pay for both of their plastic surgeries to look just like Nash & Hall. But wouldn’t that seize the Kane character from ever debuting? It’s a good thing that his Diesel clone failed for Glen Jacobs in order to be the Undertaker’s brother.

I have a memory of one of the announcing staff - maybe Vince himself? I don't recall - directly addressing Evil Jim Ross's claim that Diesel and Razor were coming back by stating in no uncertain terms that Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were NOT returning to the WWF. It almost felt like Vince was afraid of a counter-suit by WCW for doing the exact same thing WWF was suing WCW for doing, and wanted to prevent it by making it very very clear that no matter what the Jim Ross character said, WCW's wrestlers were not coming to WWF.

OMG! Paranoia is a powerful weapon. I never heard about WCW being fearful of Scott & Nash leaving & giving them more $. They were the luckiest 2 dudes back then. So Vince shot himself in the foot, then gave the gun to his former Cliq dudes, & they pointed it at WCW brass without having to do anything. No wonder WCW is dead!
