How good was Fábio Paím actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most controversial and naturally talented players we've seen over the 2000's in football. In this episode we take on Fábio Paím who played for Sporting and Chelsea for most of his career.

As a Sporting fan, Paím was possibly our greatest player who never was. The kid was fucking amazing. But his focus was on everything but football. I actually met Fábio through a couple of friends we have in common, and he's a really nice guy. Just got lost in life. The real tragedy isn't the career he lost, was that he lost himself.

You're right, maybe it teaches us a lesson to be careful with praising/hyping youth players. Fabio Paim obviously is an extreme example given everything that happened off of the pitch, but Freddy Adu, Bojan Krkic, Pavel Morrison, and Kerlon all were wonderkids that never managed to fulfill their potential, mostly because of their mindsets, quite possibly caused by things just having gone way too easily in the youth ranks. As a result, they never really learned how to cope with disappointment very well, nor have they learned that sometimes they actually need to work hard to get things done.

Very interesting and what a total shame that his god given talent wasn’t for rest of us to see. I grew up in the east end of London which back then was deprived and poor. I played football with kids my age who later became football stars like. David Beckham, Sol Campbell, Linvoy Primus, Micha Hyde just to name a few. But there were kids that I believed were even better than them who never made it honestly if they had could of become legends stars in the game. I think some work hard to become good and some are just born with it and it’s them that normally have personal issues and never make it. Some like Ravel Morrison do get the chance but just don’t fulfil their potential. There are kids all over the globe just like Fabio who due to their backgrounds have the greatest task of trying to maintain progression on a straight road. Every poor area has the greatest talents 100% truth whether it’s art or sports. This line of talents will never end.

You have to understand what was/is his background. Living in the ghetto surrounded by poverty and crime is beyond the grasp for many. All of a sudden he's a superstar, flooded with money he never believed it was possible. He himself, his family and all those "friends" from the hood. It's true he didn't have thr mental and social structure to take all that but he also never had someone close to help guide through that. On the contrary, he was surrounded by people taking advantage of him. Its really a sad story because he REALLY was a special talent. The type of talent that comes along every 50 years or so.

Something for developing football nations to look at, it's not just about providing training facilities, professional coaches. They should be able to provide proper mental toughness, decipline and good career advice, rather than handing them stacked cash, which they probably will misuse given their age, so my conclusion the greatest training academy is one which not only makes you a great at the pitch but also of the pitch in real life, look at greats like khabib nurmagedov, the professional training he's got the life lessons he was taught at his father training facility not only made him a great champion but also a great human being, regardless of the difference in sport we can all agree, these failed players are not all to blame, their club also plays a huge role in shaping their character

To be a long lasting great player, must have above average discipline and ambition in/off the pitch. Some are best for few good years then the rest is media replaying their great moments but doesn't perform well anymore in reality. Ronaldo is different. He is consistent, ambitious and most importantly, only natural ageing can lower his work rate.

Seeing ppl make comparisons with ravel Morrison and mario balotelli with Fabio paim (for context never hear of the guy b4) ravel is a case of rough up bringing misc with diagnosed bipolar disorder and the inability to take meds because of anti doping policies and his career has now on the rise with derby county and he’s playing international football for Jamaica (btw I’m a Jamaican living in Jamaica) nobody knows what’s wrong with mario balotelli maybe that erratic person that does what he feels like is just him but trophies and accolades wise he’s don it all super cupa copa Italy epl title Italian league titles (yes titles and not title he won 3 back to back) playing in euro 2012 losing the finals on penalties playing in the confederations cup getting injured in the semis after loosing to Spain beats Uruguay on penalties to finish 3rd. His career is has been a great one in comparison to the rest of the “next big thing” players. Freddy adu was at the 2009 confed cup and he don’t even get off the bench once to even warm up he’s played for a list of teams longer than the year 2020 and he’s a free agent rn and what does he have to show for it ? A MLS title abd supporters shield with DC United in the early 2000’s paim only has one Portuguese 2nd division title frm 2008. They guy is the Portuguese Freddy adu they helped him up just like Freddy gave him a lot too early and he believed the hype it’s just that. Football has become mechanical and robotic and soulless we are so crazy about stats stats stats to the point we’re if a player isn’t putting numbers up like ronaldo or messi he’s considers a failure because he didn’t live up to our expectation not everybody is going to be the next big thing so players are fringe players son players are rotational players some players are squad players some are journey me and it’s ok once these guy are making the bread and feel happy with them selfs and play football it’s fine. We need to stop projecting or expect ions on young players comming up the ranks and let them develop into them selves not every play can cope with that perfect example bojan who had anxiety and football fans around the world broke him because of their exceptions of him. But hey why do I knw I have played the sport competitively in almost 10 years and recreationally in 6 and I’m here psychoanalysis multimillionaire and former millionaire footballers 🤷🏽‍♂️🤣
