The Right to Censor was a WWF faction that existed during the WWF's "Attitude Era". When the PTC began giving Vince McMahon problems in regards to the WWF's more contemporary content, it was decided that Stevie Richards would lead a group that held the same beliefs as Vince McMahon's real life enemies. The Right to Censor, eventually featuring superstars such as "The Goodfather", Val Venis, Ivory and Bull Buchanan, would do everything they could to put a halt to the WWF's attitude initiative, from covering up female superstars to trying to stop the Dudley Boyz from using tables. The RTC's actions would lead the group to becoming natural heels within the World Wrestling Federation.
This video looks at the formation of the Right to Censor in 2000 and it also looks at how each member became associated with the group.
00:00 - The WWF vs The PTC
03:34 - Steven Richards becomes concerned about WWF content
06:57 - The Goodfather joins the cause
10:52 - Val Venis joins RTC
15:13 - Ivory joins RTC
16:50 - The Dudleys tease joining the group
19:59 - The final weeks of The Right to Censor

The fact that the WWE and the entertainment industry in general is watered down and sterile now is nothing to do with the conservative-minded PTC and everything to do with over-sensitive woke liberalism and a corporate media who fiercely attack everything that deviates from the permitted narrative, thought patterns and behaviours.

His youtube channel breaks down things very well too. Good post career move. Ivory is underrated too. Goodfather was my favorite 😂. Honestly though, censorship is sometimes justified, especially in small doses as well as aiming to a younger audience, like putting a shirt on lady deathstrike in x-men the animated series from the 90's or rejecting the Longshot romance idea as jubilee was too young. The making of book thanked the censors for not handcuffing them (like 90's spiderman or 2000's fantastic four with many edited scenes).

Well, WWF was PG all the way up to mid-1998, so it was just a return to form for WWE after "getting the F out" (after losing rights to the WWF initials to the animal rights/environmental conservation advocacy organization The World Wildlife Fund [for Nature], who owned the initials well before the former World Wrestling Federation dropped the extra W from its prior WWWF moniker) & doing away with the TV-14 rating, along with trying to backdoor censor its more salacious, risque programming in hindsight upon partnering with longtime Monday Night RAW distributor NBC-Universal/Universal Studios (owners of USA Network, moderators of WWE Network on Peacock & loaning out Hot Stuff the Little Devil -- the impish hell-spawn friend of Casper the Friendly Ghost & the ethereal adolescent's "fleshie with superpowers" girlfriend Wendy the Good Little Witch from NBC's acquisition of Harvey Entertainment/Harvey Comics -- for use on promotional material for the NXT New Year's Evil PPV event) & streaming industry pioneer Netflix (the recent _Escape The Undertaker_ interactive TV movie & previously, _The Big Show Show_ family sitcom before Paul Wight joined the All Elite Wrestling rival promotion).

24:13 Stevie Richards' WWE and TNA runs, as a whole, were like Right to Censor. Stuff like this, Dr. Stevie and Stevie Night Heat didn't elevate Richards past the low-to-midcards, yet he was off-kilter enough that he lasted a long time in his comedy niche without drawing too much off the ECW nostalgia well.

RTC had the best entry music because it did exactly what it was meant to do. You couldn't sing to it, you couldn't dance to it, it wasn't catchy, all you can do was boo. It was obnoxiously perfect to create nuclear heat, and it worked.

Honestly, this was exactly what a faction should be ... Specially a heel one. They got an idea, a principle and an execution and they did great, adding guys like Goodfather and ValVenis was a great idea and they did what they were supposed to do, being despicable heels. Sad that we didn't see Goodfather being the one who broke the group by getting his old self back, but still they did have a good run and they were very prominent during their run, I'm sure it started as a joke but they succeed. I mean when you look at other factions like The Core, League of Nations or Retribution, i ben they wished they had at least half the success RTS got. Nice video.

He did. To paraphrase the RTC leader's promo towards Billy Gunn, "I find the use of the name MR. ASS to be repulsive, revolting & totally unacceptable! So, if you are any kind of man at all, Mr. Gunn, you would allow me the privilege and the honor to personally censor your profane name! -- gestures to the crowd -- And, I do it for the good of each and every one of you!" ~ Steven Richards

A mid card stable is a mid card stable, but I think you have to judge the value of the stable by whether or not the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I think Right to Censor was the high point of most of the member's careers in WWF.

I think this was the really brilliant part: the RTC successfully censored some of the more lurid parts of the show. But rather than fans getting upset with WWE as a company for toning things down, fans instead got upset with the on-screen faction doing it, and it was made part of the story. I think they wanted to tone things down a little bit but found a way to do it while making it part of the storyline.

Lisa “Ivory” Moretti has often said she was put in the RTC as a sort of punishment for refusing to pose for Playboy. She also didn’t do a whole lot after RTC disbanded, she still got used regularly during her last couple years in the company but it was mostly house shows and throwaway TV matches. She’s chalked that up to lingering resentment over her not doing Playboy and creative basically forgetting she existed.
