Dick Taylor was the first bassist and Mick Avory the first drummer of the Stones, so Bill and Charlie wasn't there at the early beginings so couldn't testify. Mick was already singing with Alexis Korner incorporated when Ian Stewart made the connexion with Brian, such a lake of informations is pitiful.

Bill remembered wrong as a letter from Brian to a fan sold at auction not too long ago. In it Brian says how he joined mick and Keith's band, that's in Brian's own words

Exactly right. When the Stones were inducted into the RRHOF the first person Keith Richards thanked was Ian Stewart. Mick thanked him as well. But Keith said he still felt like he worked for Ian because it was his band. And probably Brian Jones was the next big piece but due to his issues Mick and Keith took control of the group. Which worked out great I suppose but you’re right, the contributions of Ian rarely come up in these docs.

I'm tired of hearing/reading/seeing how the Rolling Stones are "one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of our time", FACT IS they are THE greatest Rock n Roll band of ALL TIME. PERIOD! And all that horse hockey that the Beatles were greatest or better than the Stones is pure HORSE HOCKEY TOO! The Beatles were not really Rock n Roll. They had a lot of different influences whereas the Stones were influenced by the Blues artists and stuck to their Blues roots. It was only later when the Stones really began to take off, the Beatles were going away from Rock, and even Pop as they just dawdled around in the studio and stopped live performances…

Tony is wrong about Jimi! Linda Keith was Keith’s girlfriend at that time and Jimi didn’t use lighter Fluid till Monterrey 1967 became of a suggestion by Keith Altham a pop writer! Chas chandler of the Animals signed him up and produced jimis first Albums! He brought him to England dressed him in Carnaby Street and Kings rd clobber and he nicked his act from The Who who destroyed their guitars years before!

I was born in 1951 so I have lived through these times , Mick and Keith have allways been the stones, yes Brian started the band but Brian was a very selfish individual, he had kids with women with no intention of staying with them, that is selfish, its easy to put something on it, he was also not turning up and when he did he was zonked out, so of course he had to go, tell me one company that would pay anyone to just come and go as they please with not a thought to the problems there selfishness causes to others, it was a joint decision to ask Brian to leave the stones, but he was given every opportunity to sort himself out, he new anyway where the talent was in the stones and I think that made him more than a bit jealous of others in the band

+freak Bennett - Charlie Watts was with Brian Jones in a blues band and Mick and Keith came to see the band and much later on Brian hired Mick and Keith to join him and then Brian asked Charlie to join. At first Brian, Mick and Keith had a different drummer in the Stones as Charlie did not want to join them at that point but then Charlie joined and then Brian hired Bill Wyman and then the Rolling Stones were completed but it was Brians band. He formed the band and he named the band and he hired everyone.
