The Story of Two Baby Rabbits

My mother found two baby rabbits abandoned on our lawn while she was mowing the lawn. We figured that something must have happened to the mother since they don't typically leave their offspring behind. We decided that we should foster the rabbits at least until they are large enough to survive in the wild on their own. We brought them into the house and they ended up being the cutest little pets anyone could ask for!
I will make an update on them in a couple of months.

"since they don't typically leave their offspring behind" Actually, the mother bunny leaves the babies to eat, and comes back at dawn or dusk to feed them. She leave them otherwise it would attract predators if they saw her in one spot all the time. Also, it's not good to re-release rabbits into the wild after they've been handled by people, because they don't know how to survive (Their mother would've taught them). Lastly, I am a hypocrite, because I totally took in a wild baby rabbit before I learned that it was a bad idea.

Even though they didn't get hurt, it must've been traumatizing to the bunnies. Taken from their *nest* then being two inches from what they think is going to eat them..

Those bunnies are not abandoned you just took them. When baby rabbits(kittens) get that age they explore their wild home and will return to the nest at dawn and dusk with their mother to feed. Then the babies sleep in the nest until the next day when the same thing continues It's not too late though you can release them and most likely they will find their mother

Why did you take those bunnies inside. The mother was probably looking for food for the baby bunnies. I’ve seen so many videos like this but you guys are not saving them. The mother was probably very worried because she lost her bunnies. How would you feel if your children’s get lost. Sad right. You should leave them where they were. They don’t like it they miss there Mom. Don’t you miss your mom when your are lost or something. Like if you do. I love bunnies I am a bunny lover but I would never take bunnies that are alone. I would just leave them alone. There Mom or dad would look for them.

Mother rabbits don't stay around their babies because they are prey animals. She would give away the nest place to other animals. The mother isn't affectionate like other mothers. She comes to feed them ONLY ONCE and then leaves again. Should have left them.

Ugh, I know you guys meant well, but "since they typically don't leave their offspring behind." Yes they do. The mother is away from the nest most of the time actually. The mother only comes back a couple minutes two times within a 24 hour period to feed them. The mother doesn't want to attract predators. Never take wild bunnies in. Most of the time they go into shock and die. I breed rabbits and even domestic rabbits only go into the nest 5 minutes a day broken up into two feedings.

The bond between a mother and her offsprings is not so strong in the animal kingdom like many people think it is,some softies should stop having this overly optimistic view of nature,we do not live in a disney movie,in reality, most species of animals in the wild are completely devoid of parental care,of course, there are some exceptions, but even in most mammal species the mothers do not behave so motherly, humans are primates which put many efforts in the care of their offsprings because, considering human females usually give birth only to one offspring at the time when they go through pregnancy they have to spend much more resources into taking care of it,for our species reproduction is an investment and that's why we have strong long-term parental bonds, for many others it is simply a habit, rabbits especially reproduce at a very fast rate, because, being prey animals, they are disposable in nature,so they have to breed as much as they can in order to maintain a large population,if the mother was still alive, she would have probably forgotten about her batch as soon as she found out the nest was empty and she's probably gone through god knows how many other pregnancies later on,speaking about parental instincts in the animal kingdom, people who have possessed dogs which have been impregnated know very well that,in some cases, the mother can even abandone the weakest puppies of her batch in order to increase the survival chances of the others,a real bitch isn't she?

Update didn't came cuz they probably passed.. Ehh I had tooken in a baby bunny before because one of the dogs took it out of the nest and at the time we couldn't find the nest. Lucky we took it away from the dog quickly before it killed it. (And it has killed a few babies) sadly it only lived for about a week. I felt really sad getting attached and it was cute how it would always come into my hands. It's really hard taking care of something wild. The good news is last time an incident happen like this we were able to find the nest so the baby bunny was going to be okay.

I once saved a family of rabbits from a horrible storm in my home state of Texas a field had flooded and I was wrangling the cattle to safety when I noticed a mother rabbit going insane I approached and she ran wash a few feet inside the nest were 6 baby rabbits drowning in the water as it filled up I rescued them quickly putting them inside my truck the mother was hysterical she was divided between he instincts to run and help her children I managed to catch her after a short chase and put her in a dog crate I happened to have the babies I bottle fed the mother eventually began to trust me but always was wary the babies grew older and one day I released the whole lot of them to my surprise they stayed in my yard except for the mother who took of the babies now grown stayed in my yard and fed on my garden which I was fine with as I was for fun not food as they got older they wandered further and further but always returning eventually until one day they stopped coming back about a year after releasing them on of the rabbits who I had named thumper wa stone for an entire month I was used to this the stayed away for long periods of time but eventually I realized he wasn’t coming back one by one the same thing occurred with the others some rabbits came every day some came every few weeks but eventually they all stopped when I was down to one rabbit I debated capturing her something I was capable of as they still let me pet them but I realized that to cage them was wrong and they deserved freedom after another week my last rabbit left for the last time I was sad that such an experience was over but happy that I had such an experience with these noble creatures

This video was already 8 years old. I hope these bunnies lived for as long as they wanted. I always get sad to the fact that rabbits are just preys in the wild and have so many predators. So helpless. If only they'd be aggressive they could lessen those deaths and help others in need. Only thanks for their fast reproduction they didn't get endangered in count and outnumbered others. I hope bunnies get aggressive and learn how to fight back and always outwit enemies that surely threatens their life.

The description is an incorrect statement. Yes it is typical for mothers to leave their baby's behind due to the mother attracting predators, therefore putting her baby's lives at stake. If you would've searched up on the internet the habits of rabbits you should have seen that they are usually left alone until their mother comes and feeds them. Even if you didn't see the mother you should have watched them for a few days to see if they were being fed or not by the mother. I would advise putting them back to keep your channel from dying.

Mothers will protect their babies with their life if they have to. I found babies more than once being attacked by magpies and the poor mother is run silly here and there trying to protect them. Bunnies are about as smart as eight year olds and domesticated bunnies make great pet friends. Great job on trying to help. Next time make sure the mother doesn't come back at dusk before disturbing them.

This is heartbreaking and rather misinformed on so many levels. Firstly, you broke the Mother bunnies heart by removing her babies from where she left them. I am sad that she had to endure that because now there is simply no way you can return them. They will not be able to learn properly to care for themselves. The only case it would be acceptable, at least in my opinion... to take these bunnies from their nest is if the Mom was for sure never ever coming back. That would only be likely if she was killed by a predator or struck by a vehicle. Another thing I can't fathom is why you would ever frighten them and put them so close to animals that do not normally hesitate to kill bunnies. Bunnies are very fearful animals. So much so that they can literally die from the stress of being afraid. It is hard not to worry that these bunnies will either be neglected sooner than later or killed by one of the animals. You can't force them into the wild with no skills now and so you will be stuck raising them and it is difficult to have faith that it will be done in a way that benefits them. I truly hope to be proven wrong with that but... I just hope that they are still OK. If so, then please just look after them and try not to scare them. They really are such precious animals who wouldn't hurt anything. Keep the other animals from getting to them. They very well could attack them.

You realise that rabbits leave their young in nests, right? You didn't rescue them, you just took them away from their mother.

Did they survive? I saw a dead bunny on the road today. 😥 04.23.2018

You didn’t rescue them, you put them in even more danger, mothers tend to leave thier children alone for a while to hunt for food or make predators get less attracted to the bunnies, and they get scared to death really easily by being shown to big creatures, and it can cause them to die, you just want it because it’s cute, you are a monster
