He paved the idea of colonialism in America, and later Africa and Asia. He made a starving and overpopulated Europe find a shit ton of land that is sparsely populated after their diseases came in. If it weren't for him the civilizations on the Americas could've started trading more with the Ming Dynasty and obtain gunpowder, and Europe would've starve. But I guess he did nothing, eh?

@MasterChakra74 жыл бұрын
@@rajarshibarman9606 Well, simply put, the statement in which postmodernists grounded their work is basically : "Everything is interpretation, and people who try to make truth emerge out of the world of facts are just projecting their own interpretations on everyone else." Except that this statement could also be made towards postmodernism itself, by saying that : "Their proposition that there is no objective truth to be discovered is itself an interpretation of the world of facts, therefore we need to try and see if their statement is true before we use it to shape our ideas." And so we're back where we started (which is kind of an indication that postmodernism is full of shit).

I'm 39 now. I did a degree music degree in a small arts college and my wife who's also 39 did a medical degree at Manchester. I had a lot of fun and learned an awful lot about music history and cultural theories while my wife (at the time just girlfriend) worked every hour God sent studying anatomy. I graduated after 3 years and found work in a school and she studied for a further 2 years followed by 5 years of junior doctor rounds. Great video! Makes boring academic subjects seem more alive and interesting. And relevant. Puts everything into the Big Picture with a good focus, and a sense of fun.
@ZapperBoy997 жыл бұрын
That video was pretty funny and decently informative. My only quirks are that the creator says that Nietzche is a Nihilist but that's not entirely true. Nietzsche argued that nihilism is the sickness of mankind and a reinvention of oneself is necessary to life a full life. Therefore leading to the idea of the Ubermensch and the new table of values as well as vitalism. So yeah, Nietzche wasn't a Nihilist, in fact he was a vitalist. Also, you say that postmodernism makes no sense but that Duchamp urinal is actually quite genius. Marcel Duchamp would take objects that have one purpose and give them another one that invalidates the original one. These are called "ready-mades". The urinal upside down becomes a fountain, declares Duchamp.
@t.m.carter41717 жыл бұрын
I wish he mentioned how much Nietzsche hated Kant
@easilydistracted51927 жыл бұрын
Not only that, Duchamp's other ready-mades are a lot more interesting. I love the one where he nailed an unused coatrack to the floor and called it "trap" because he kept forgetting to put it on the wall and repeatedly tripped over it. He didn't see all his work as very serious art, especially not his most famous one, the bicycle wheel. He'd just made it to play around with it, but as it turned out, it would become the ancestor of the modern readymade. It's cool because the stool can't be used due to the wheel, and the wheel can't be used due to the stool, and whatever they both do together is an exploration of motion in sculpture which he couldn't express in, say, painting. Motion in art is actually a very important theme at the time! It's not just about denial of old values or irritating people.

Tobias Soar Nietzsche is a nihilistic, but he is an optimistic nihilistic... In other words. We are all gonna die, but imagine we are destined to live our entire lives over and over again, for the rest of infinity. Wouldn't you like to have a pleasant life rather than suffering over and over again... There comes the term Superman, to be the best version of yourself and that there is always room for improvement, even if at the end it doesn't really matter. What would you like your legacy to be, a Superman, or a camel as he called them, those whom never lived their live to it's fullest.

@@jamesmatkel8010 Maybe for some branches of philosophy, like what determines consciousness and other (arguably) objective questions about how the brain works. But certain hugely important aspects of modern life, such as politics, are heavily dependent on constant re-evaluation of philosophical ideas. The essence of human nature, which economic systems are effective and/or moral, how important are the ideas of freedom and democracy... Not to mention that philosophy is more-or-less guaranteed to always be relevant to human society. Science may be able to answer some grand all-encompassing questions we have about the world, but every day every person faces hundreds of decisions with no "objective" right answer. And for as long as human beings make subjective choices, they will be influenced by subjective ideas about what's right and wrong and good and evil. Buffalo That's not nihilism. Nihilism is either negation of life, meaning surronding it, and from there comes the suicide, hedonistic lifestyle and such and such, or either the Nietzschean version. Nietzsche defined nihilism as innabillity to create own morals, often surrounded by resentiment. From that we have negation of life. Nietzsche disagreed with this notion. Generally Nietzsche is not a nihilist, he's a lover of life.

Law and medicine are probably safer, that's true. Yeah, well so is never leaving the fucking house. If it's in your blood, it's in your blood. We don't get to play the life game for too long.
